Welcome all. The booze here is minimally intoxicating, the food is calorie free and the staff are warm and cuddly. And if the thread title sounds nonsensical, blame the guy Myrtle was listening to this evening!

My favourite ad is this advert. I want a house hippo! Maybe the Bluestocking has some, living in the wainscotting?

Well the house hippo one was funny - reminded me of the Fr Ted/Fr Dougal 'small/far away' masterclass.

Then the opposable thumbs one had me laughing out loud.

The final assault on my tear ducts and intercostal muscles was the Dansons la Capucine - and in French too!😂

And then the classic Cadbury's gorilla - ambassador, you are spoiling us!
Thank you for the laughs!

FuzzyPuffling · 17/05/2025 13:17

Oh poor Snowdrop!

MarieDeGournay · 17/05/2025 13:18

Whenever I see a white fluffy cat like the one in that ad, Flower, I think of this scene from what I have to confess is one of my favourite films: Stuart Little!

It clearly opened a pathway in my brain that came in handy recently for accepting the idea of gerbils in snappy little suits serving drinks..

In another scene Snowbell walks away with his tail straight up, like cats do, and growls 'Talk to the tail, the face ain't listening'Grin

I'm convinced the film has a subtext about diversity and inclusion - the model yacht that outsider Stuart heroically saves from being shipwrecked is called 'The Wasp' - and the family are so stereotypically WASP.. but I mostly just enjoy the wonderful animation and a little rodent wearing suits and driving a car and Snowbell of the gravelly voice and short temperSmile

I tried creating House Hippos but they're very big. They are available for snuggles if anyone needs them.

awwwwwwwwwwww! we must have them in the Bluestocking😘

ErrolTheDragon · 17/05/2025 16:07

There was an earlier version of the house hippos when my dd was small. Better than a mere ad, they’re public service broadcasts…but yes, I’m sure the result was many children and their mums wanting one.

I’ve been playing with ChatGPT, and have found it will turn photos into studio Ghibli style pictures, so I’ve transformed one of my wedding pictures - me, dh and my parents. Dh thinks it is spooky.

Wait till he sees the movie.

I'm still 4 pages back, trying to catch up with things. Why is Myrtle now called FlowerUser? When did Deano start using AI? What IS our official motto?

FlowerUser · 17/05/2025 18:45

I drunkenly sleepily posted an update at very early o'clock, forgetting to check my username. Condemned to be a flower for this thread as a result 🤣😭😢😂

ifIwerenotanandroid · 17/05/2025 19:11

😂And to think I welcomed you as a new patron of the Bluey, & tried in vain to coax the AI into making a sensible representation of a flower user.🙄

Don't mind me, I'm new here myself (and not quite up to speed with this AI sorcery)

Swash - believe it or not I've been bearing in mind the difficult part of your garden you mentioned yonks ago - 'The Puzzle Patch' as I've named it in my head🙃 I suggested sedum a while ago - purely on the basis of how it flourishes in my garden, I know very little about plants, I just note what survives in my garden, and where.

Well now I've got another 'plant and forget' suggestion: aquilegia or columbine, which is sort-of wild and sort-of not - non-binaryWink
. It grows wild in hedgerows etc., but also exists as a cultivated garden plant. It's very cottagey-gardenySmile It's in bloom now.

It appeared in my garden a few years ago, and would now be all over it if I didn't control it, so it clearly has no problem growing anywhere.
It's very easy to gather the seeds and plant them where you'd like it to grow, and then restrict it to there.

Right that's enough of me LARPing as Somebody Who Knows About PlantsGrin

Excellent plant that self seeds, as a gardener i recommend getting self seeders as one has the excitement of seeing where it pops up next year.

DeanElderberry · 17/05/2025 20:01

If you use the scientific name, Aquilegia, you're referring to the resemblance of the spurs of the flowers to eagles' claws.

But if you call them Columbines you are noticing the way the flower looks like a group of five little doves, cleverly sharing just five 'wings' between them.

claws or doves, you decide

in any case, have nothing to do with old lady headgear

But am very very happy with 'let the gerbils handle it' as a permanent action plan, and think what IS wrong with people? is the only possible response to some of the wrong people out there.

DeanElderberry · 17/05/2025 20:09

As to AI, someone was kind enough to direct me to Bing, but I am trying to ration myself because planet etc.

Would like to make clear that there was nothing artificial about this morning's picture of Róisín Dubh (the little love).
