Ah... I was referring to If The Kids Are United.

As you were...

I remember the Toten Hosen version of this as well.

RedToothBrush · 22/04/2025 07:27

Blunt, succinct, bang on the point.

Good article which spells it out.

As for The queers united shall never be divided, I prefer the Sham 69 original. If that marks me as a Philistine, then so be it.

Ooh, I haven't listened to the Fred Rzewski variations on the song for ages, that will be nice with a cup of tea this morning.

Ooo, first obscure composer reference of the day! Ding ding, prize for @Igneococcus!

Our cats get named after obscure composers, obscure composers could be my Mastermind specialist subject.

What do they want to be liberated from exactly?

Their testicles?

NameChangedOfc · 22/04/2025 08:07

"No borders, No nations- trans liberation!"

This has to be my favourite. Sounds like a slogan for a transports company.

The martyrs stuff is appalling: they are obtusely stupid people, don't have a clue what they are saying.

Exactly.

Who is going to pay for the free hormones if we've dismantled the state?

Tossers.

That 'HRT, HRT...' chant sounds like Goldie Lookin Chain, they have a song called HRT. They're Welsh too, so perfect for Cardiff 😆

aylis · 22/04/2025 08:27

I don't think I've ever been to a protest where they've basically given a handout of every chant they've got. Maybe that's normal but I've never experienced it. I hope they'll have a teacher at the front of the class in case they forget the words.

VisitationRights · 22/04/2025 08:29

Enough4me · 21/04/2025 16:14

So they want free HRT which they don't need and I, a perimenopausal woman, have to pay for?
Trust men to push ahead again, what next...new chant "give us free tampons"?

We get hurt for free in Wales… if it is available that is.

They can get free tampons or pads at any library in Wales.

They normally have some bellowing men leading the chanting.

Goldie Lookin Chain have a number, released as a single in 2004, called "Your Mother's Got a Penis" - which was criticised for being "offensive to transsexuals".

Some people have no sense of humour.

@Igneococcus, I take that back - if they’re super obscure, that could be outing. I shall just imagine all the possible obscure composers you could have named them after…

Fgfgfg · 22/04/2025 08:44

SameyMcNameChange · 21/04/2025 20:54

Imagine if the slogans/placards stated what they really want.

’Allow men to strip search women’
’Place rapists in female jails’
‘Let men compete in women’s sports’
’Male doctors shouldn’t need to ask for consent before intimately examining women’
’Deny disabled women same sex care’

In Welsh perhaps? Would anyone notice?
Caniatáu i ddynion stripio chwilio menywod'
'Rhowch dreiswyr mewn carchardai benywaidd'
'Gadewch i ddynion gystadlu mewn chwaraeon menywod'
'Ni ddylai meddygon gwrywaidd fod angen gofyn am ganiatâd cyn archwilio menywod yn agos'
'Gwrthod gofal o'r un rhyw i fenywod anabl'

I can imagine. Way back when Maria McLachlan was assaulted in Hyde Park, I watched the video footage several times (the unedited one, there was one circulated which had been carefully edited to make it look as if this small, slight 60-yo with osteoporosis had gone up to the 6'+ trans-identified 20something male and attacked him Hmm when in fact two or more young men clearly attacked her and took her camera, which she tried to get back, so one of them punched her).

There was a telling bit where another hulking male got really angry with one of the young women present (on their side). I've no idea what he was saying but the body language and facial expression was unmistakeable. I'd guess that the young woman had committed the unforgivable sin of expressing reservations about the wisdom of stealing, perhaps even shown some signs of concern and compassion for Maria. Well, that would have had to be dealt with. The cowed look on the young woman's face has stayed with me. The way she looked down at the ground while this brute harangued her. I'd like to think it was a wake up call for her and/or some of the other young women present.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/04/2025 08:59

Friend of Mumsnet Joss Prior circulated the version that all the TRAs used to claim Maria was the aggressor.

There were a lot of pro Palestine signs left around the ones I went on - someone had left a load for people to pick up and wave.

So they got a bunch of people who probably weren't very pro Palestine (if at all) but fancied carrying a sign, who picked their signs up. Good tactic really.

Sorry, bit of a derail.

The Socialist Workers must have quite a sizable cottage industry which involves making signs and banners and transporting them to demos. I Used to live on a peace camp in the early 1980s...and SWP and WRP members would always turn up in their shemags. Shemag wearing has always been a thing in radical left circles, even when people have had no real clue about the nature and history of 'the conflict'. It's just part of the uniform.

I'm not sure how it fits into the business model since they sold the print shop, but that's always been the style. Turn up with hundreds of signs, hand them out to any punter who walks by, and you look much bigger than you are.

At least the Trot branded signs stick with something vague and high level like "trans rights are human rights" or "resist the Supreme Court". It's the handwritten TRA signs that get spicy.

Æthelred · 22/04/2025 10:19

As someone who grew up in one of the Emirates, the idea that this cause is related to the Palestinian cause is comical. It never gets old. The Arab world is about as "binary" as it is possible to be - they aren't interested in this ideology. Countries like Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Qatar, and Jordan will bar entry to holders of passports lacking a traditional "M" or "F" and I wasn't in the least bit surprised not to find any coverage of the UK Supreme Court ruling in the UAE press because the ruling was about as much of a "landmark" as a court ruling that water was wet.

In German? Was it Sham 69 who did an English version of Hier Kommt Alex?

Interesting observation by pp that rights suddenly are now like pie.

No not in German, but the Sham singer was involved. I don't think it was Sham 69 that did Alex.

Friend of Mumsnet Joss Prior circulated the version that all the TRAs used to claim Maria was the aggressor.

It's very much part of TRA mythology that they are the primary victims of everything. If there's violence between a male and a female, if the male 'identifies as a woman', then he must be the victim. This victimhood mentality comes out strongly in the 'Trans Day of Remembrance', and in attempts to centre trans people in the Holocaust. Sophie Labelle, for instance, recently produced a cartoon with the text 'when the Nazis seized power in 1933, one of the first things they did was to burn down Hirschfield's Institute for Sexual Science, a research and healthcare center for trans, intersex and queer people. More than a million homosexual men, which designated gay men and trans-feminine people alike, were persecuted, castrated, instutionalised, killed or forced into concentration camps... Denying these facts is Holocaust denial.' People have been quick to point out that only three or four trans people were known to have been killed in the Holocaust, of whom two were Jewish. Also the number of gay men persecuted was substantially lower.
