It's fair enough if you had a different experience! I didn't see any of that at all.

The main London march was uncomfortable where I was. There was a very vocal pro Palestinian group near me. I tried again in Manchester and found similar. It's possible I was looking out for it more after the London March because it hit a nerve with me. But yeah there was definitely people doing it then.

There is often reference to the fact that Stonewall was a riot when talking about protest.

It may well be true, but imho peaceful protest is far more effective in the long run.

More to the point, the people protesting in this situation are not fighting for equal rights, which they already have. They're protesting because they've just been told they don't have more rights than everyone else.

Very reminiscent of Edinburgh Action for Trans Health manifesto. Olden but golden. https://www.tumblr.com/edinburghath/163521055802/trans-health-manifesto

Thanks. I was trying to remember exactly which group had posted this word salad.

SionnachRuadh · 21/04/2025 21:28

I don't really do protests any more - partly for professional reasons and partly for mobility reasons - but used to do lots of them.

My main takeaway is that even when the organisers were a bit mad (certain people turning up on the platform is an alarm bell for me) there was at least an attempt to make things look reasonable and positive. The organisers understood that alienating the normies was counterproductive to their cause.

Here we've got a cause that seems to be a magnet for every oddball in the country, who believe that alienating the normies is the main point, and the veteran organisers that usually turn up at these things have decided the oddballs are the revolutionary subject and must be deferred to. Well good luck with that.

I'm an actual woman and I have to pay for my HRT - £85 every 3 months 😒

Why not pay £19.80 for a 12 month HRT prescription prepayment certificate (PPC)?

https://www.gov.uk/get-a-ppc/hrt-ppc

Get a prescription prepayment certificate

NHS Business Services Authority contact number for ordering prepaid prescriptions for 3 or 12 months at a cheaper rate than single prescriptions

Women's rights are not aggression.

Hth.

And yes protests often attract extremists but it's not often you get the actual organisers trying to get people to chant utter nonsense.

I've been on a lot of protests in my time, I've never encountered the death threats. That really is shifting the gears.

And the 'they hurt our feelings (by stating reality) so we can say what we like' excuse that is all over X by those trying to justify death threats is wearing a bit thin. nodebate is over.

On another note, I really don't think they realise what would happen if they went to Gaza and chanted about being queer. I don't think it would end well.

I would wish they’d head over to Gaza, but the people there have enough to worry about without our oppressed, vulnerable minorities to look after as well.

I question the motives when the first - massively long - post is all about how some protesters are using stupid messages and then there’s a p.s. acknowledging that the majority of trans people and their allies do not support this nonsense.
Mass protests always attract nutters. Nature of the beast. It doesn’t mean trans people don’t have genuine reasons to challenge the unnecessary aggression coming their way.

Where is this unnecessary aggression? I was under the impression this was about a Supreme Court judgment they aren’t happy with?

Llamasarellovely · 21/04/2025 20:45

Are you suggesting they wear the ubiquitous keffiyeh performatively? How very dare you.
🤣

Knock-off keffiyehs bought from Chinese factories via Amazon, not even the (gorgeous) real ones from the one remaining Palestinian keffiyeh factory left.

selffellatingouroborosofhate · 21/04/2025 22:00

SameyMcNameChange · 21/04/2025 20:54

Imagine if the slogans/placards stated what they really want.

’Allow men to strip search women’
’Place rapists in female jails’
‘Let men compete in women’s sports’
’Male doctors shouldn’t need to ask for consent before intimately examining women’
’Deny disabled women same sex care’

If some GC people turned up covertly and planted such signs, would they say "hey, this isn't what we want" or would they say "ah, so we're dropping the mask of civility and saying the quiet part out loud now"? It would be an informative experiment.

I struggled through a bit of that.

It reads like Rick from the Young Ones on acid.
Utterly bonkers, even by Rick standards.

SidewaysOtter · 21/04/2025 22:30

Mass protests always attract nutters.

Not necessarily. I went on the Countryside March in 2002 and there was a lot of tweed and hip flasks but no nutters that I remember.

Also you can hide behind pseudo reasonable wadfle about 'questioning the motives ' all you like; women having discussions here are not answerable to you for their motives, tone, or anything else really!

This ⬆️

Sorry not rtwft but why aren’t you getting the hrt pre payment certificate that’s about £44 for the year?

AlexandraLeaving · 21/04/2025 15:49

It is noticeable that there is no line “When transmen are under attack/at risk of losing their rights…”

Don't be silly! They're women! Who cares about them when men's feelz have been hurt?🙄

Rights are suddenly pie 😅

The spirit of William McGonagall lives on.

Gazing down, putting his harp aside, he's thinking, "Dear me! That's simply atrocious! "

As for The queers united shall never be divided, I prefer the Sham 69 original. If that marks me as a Philistine, then so be it.

fromorbit · 22/04/2025 06:07

The Palestine stuff is hilarious.
The London demo was 80 90% white.

Muslims are not going to help the TAs. Wait and see.

Ooh, I haven't listened to the Fred Rzewski variations on the song for ages, that will be nice with a cup of tea this morning.

Cynicalaboutall · 22/04/2025 06:18

Let’s see how many of them actually turn out shall we?

As you were...

LadyBracknellsHandbagg · 22/04/2025 07:04

Fantastic, articulate, article, thank you.

Datun · 22/04/2025 07:10

Sarah Ditum saying it as it is, with a matter of factness that does nothing to disguise the horror of the behaviour of these men.

Interestingly, we seem to have gone way beyond questioning the concept of men saying they are women. What does it mean for a man to say he lives as a woman? Why does he say it, what is gender dysphoria?

It appears to be just a gimme that these are men, presenting as men, acting like men, and just demanding that women roll over because we have something they want. Roll over, or else, in fact.

We seem to have shifted from these poor people, oh for fuck's sake just do it, luv.

And the supporters and politicians letting them do it, haven't even noticed all the gloves have come off, and these men are just standing there with their naked misogyny oozing from every pore.

It's almost as though misogyny is so normal to some people, they totally fail to detect it, even when it reeks.

ManyATrueWord · 22/04/2025 07:19

Not as catchy as the song "If a person has a penis he's a man." terfytunes.wordpress.com/2019/11/28/the-transjenner-song-if-youre-happy-and-you-know-it-clap-your-hands/

If a person has a penis, he’s a man
If a person has a penis, he’s a man
If he doesn’t want to lose it
Even though he doesn’t use it
If a person has a penis, he’s a man

If a person has a nutsack, he’s a man
If a person has a nutsack, he’s a man
He can tuck it to conceal it
Let it dangle and reveal it
If a person has a nutsack, he’s a man

If he amputates his bits, he’s still a man
If he grows a pair of tits, he’s still a man
If the chromosome’s a “Y”
HE WILL ALWAYS BE A GUY ……..
If he isn’t born a woman, he’s a man.
