there's actually a comparatively high level of Welsh in Cardiff because so many jobs are based there that require (or at least prefer) Welsh - the senedd, the welsh govt, bbc wales, s4c, etc. There are some very welsh-y enclaves in Pontcanna, for example, many of whom work in welsh media. Approximately 1/6th of all schools in Cardiff are welsh language (at all levels).

In the last census Cardiff actually had the biggest increase in welsh speakers out of every local authority in the whole country.

Then there will of course be other people who aren't fluent but wouldn't be classed as 'non-welsh speakers' either.

Still a minority but not a 'vast' majority either.

You're right. I've not lived in Cardiff for about 30 years and didn't realise how much Welsh language usage had increased there compared to Swansea in that time.

Ability to speak (and read and write) a language actually does have gradations, unlike sex.

For instance the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is used to describe what levels language learners have reached. There is a CEFR table for Welsh learners.

When the messages are circulated by the protest organisers, then the protest is organised by the nutters. We are justified in calling that out.

And yes protests often attract extremists but it's not often you get the actual organisers trying to get people to chant utter nonsense.

I've been on a lot of protests in my time, I've never encountered the death threats. That really is shifting the gears.

And the 'they hurt our feelings (by stating reality) so we can say what we like' excuse that is all over X by those trying to justify death threats is wearing a bit thin. nodebate is over.

On another note, I really don't think they realise what would happen if they went to Gaza and chanted about being queer. I don't think it would end well.

I don't believe anyone said the majority of trans and their allies don't support this nonsense. .they said the majority of FB posts they'd seen. Not everyone is posting on Facebook..I bet anything the majority on transReddit aren't denouncing them. Feel free to correct me

These chants were also circulated to the Transkidsdeservebetter followers (the ones who climb up government buildings if you remember). So pretty widely distributed and accepted.

The certainly don't have genuine reasons to target ordinary women with death threats. Or threaten their jobs, get them fired, removed from clubs and associations, squeeze them out of their sports, all of which and more is openly supported by the protests. That's quite a lot of nutters.
