"Trans women ARE biological women"

I see this argument and comment more and more the last few weeks and hugely over the last 3 days.

For example:

https://www.reddit.com/r/transgenderUK/comments/1k1tliv/trans_women_are_biological_women/

This statement, and the comments underneath it absolutely baffle me.

The approach, one that I am sure will only work with a minority of the people who said TWAW, is to undermine the definition of words, yet again, and deliberately cloud the water when it comes to speaking clearly and using terms that everyone agrees with

I have seen it said in more places than Reddit however, and by respected people

I haven't seen so many attempted DSD gotchas for years. I haven't needed to use the old some people are born with only one leg or only one functioning eye. That indicates that something went wrong during their development, probably a result of a genetic glitch. It doesn't mean that the bipedal, binocular human blueprint needs to be thrown away explainer for yonks, but I've had to wheel it out at least three times in the last 24 hours.

Same here. Someone just told me that there are "intersex" people with both functioning ovaries and testicles.

Darwin wept.

SionnachRuadh · 18/04/2025 14:29

Someone should explain to the redditors that hermaphroditism doesn't exist in the human species, but it's Reddit, I suspect they've been watching far too much weird Japanese porn.

I don’t understand what they’re trying to get at - surely not every trans women has higher levels of estrogen than testosterone pre-meds?

As well as different chromosomes, the very make up of a man is different to a woman

@DeanElderberry

Do you mean metaphysics, not quantum physics?

No, if I meant metaphysics I would have written metaphysics. Obviously it is a metaphysical concept, but it is possible for modern physics to provide a framework for discussing it with respect - unlike the late medieval alchemy-derived 'science' that still forms the backdrop to anti-Catholic bigoted comments from the clueless.

there are intersex individuals who possess both functioning ovaries and testicles. This condition is known as ovotesticular disorder, or true hermaphroditism, and is a rare form of intersex variation. In this condition, the gonads, or sex glands, may have both ovarian and testicular tissues, either in the same gonad (ovotestis) or as separate ovary and testis

Look it up and stop being so ignorant.

I love it when people come on MN and try to make out they are of superior intelligence (arrogant) to other people when in fact their ‘facts’ are completely wrong😂

If you are asserting that human beings exist that produce both eggs and sperm, then it is on you to provide your evidence.

I was brought up in a Catholic family.

No.

Even the extremely (extremely) rare condition of ovotesticular disorder does not produce both functioning ovaries and testicles. The individual concerned may produce eggs or (much, much less likely) may produce sperm but never both, either concurrently or sequentially.

For this reason, the term "true hermaphroditism" is no longer used for those with this DSD.

Humans are not and have never been hermaphroditic.

Please, please stop spreading this sort of scientifically illiterate crap.

That’s incorrect. There can be both types of tissue but they are not in any way functioning.

This was much more succinct and less despairing than my response to the same end.

Well played.

hermaphrodites can produce both eggs and sperm, but not necessarily at the same time. Some hermaphrodites, called simultaneous hermaphrodites, have both functional male and female reproductive systems at the same time, allowing them to produce sperm and ova concurrently. Others, known as sequential hermaphrodites, may switch between producing sperm and eggs at different stages of their life cycle

They're not though. They're men.
No debate to be had. Don't get drawn into the nonsense that tries to say otherwise.

Exactly this.

WeeBisom · 18/04/2025 14:53

I just found out the other day that all female moles (across all mole species) have ovary/testes: gonads that a combination of male and female. Their gonads produce eggs only, no sperm, but they do produce a high amount of testosterone which varies with the seasons. So in the mating season, the testosterone level is very low which enables the females to mate and get pregnant. In other seasons, the testosterone is very high which gives the females enough muscle and aggression to dig tunnels and fight off other moles in their territory (moles are solitary creature and defend their territory to the death). Female moles also have large clitorises that resemble penises (much like female hyenas). But guess what: scientists still know they are female because they produce the large gametes and give birth. So even if there is an intersex condition that results in both ovaries and testicles only one is ever truly functioning: it's not possible to produce both sperm and eggs in the same individual.

Can you provide a link to anywhere that shows this (in humans)

Fuck me sideways.

Yes, hermaphrodites can.

Humans are not hermaphrodites.

Never have been.

None.

Ever.

Humans are not hermaphrodites

humans can be hermaphrodites, though it's a rare condition. This means an individual has both ovarian and testicular tissue, and it's often associated with chromosomal mosaicism or abnormal cleavage involving the X and Y chromosomes. The external genitalia may also show traits from both sexes

Are we talking about humans or snails or clownfish?

No , if you are going to state something that is clearly wrong then you need to prove it. Links please. Otherwise you are talking shite.
