But now, following SC ruling, they can't allow adult men into female spaces, so they'll need to change their policy

I'm pretty sure that the DL changing rooms are labelled Female, Male and Family

The fragrant Jane brought her breakfast back up. Apparently.

Heard him was doing lunch with Hubby who did a massive eye roll, at the hyperbole

earlyr1ser · 16/04/2025 14:04

Today's ruling is a tacit endorsement of this logic @Beowulfa. Wisely, the court has kept away from trying to define what a woman is:

"It is not the role of the court to adjudicate on the arguments in the public domain on the meaning of gender or sex, nor is it to define the meaning of the word “woman” other than when it is used in the provisions of the EA 2010."

Instead, they have cut through to the real issue: there is something particular about biological women that gives rise to a need for legal protection, provided currently under the EA.

Winner!

Sorry, by her I meant his.

And by "fragrant" you meant...? No, actually don't answer that. 😉

orangegato · 16/04/2025 14:06

Those wanky NHS HR policies will now need to be rewritten. What a day ladies, what a day.

Pure joy.

speakout · 16/04/2025 14:07

Welcome news!

afuckinggoat · 16/04/2025 14:07

I imagine there will be a letter writing campaign by TIMs to MPs about this ruling.

To add balance, is this a good time for us to write our own letters to our MPs acknowledging the impact of this ruling on women, and thanking the SC for its decision etc?

Ultrarunner · 16/04/2025 14:07

Congratulations and thank you to all women and men who have risked so much to support women's rights. And in that I include all we GCs and TERFs on here.

Now, as an L, can we please start divorce proceedings for LGB without the T

You're derailing this thread.

Amen. And while you're at it Zebedee, you'd better close down all the Catholic churches and public schools. I'm told that quite a lot of sexual assault has occurred in those places, down the years. Or is your argument - we have enough home-grown sex offenders, how dare these immigrants compete with them for scarce police resources?

Extreme porn advocate Jane Fae saying that the news felt 'like a physical punch'. Given that 'Jane' campaigned to defend the author of a story depicting the violent murder, rape and dismemberment of each member of Girls Aloud, and described most murders of women as being 'boring and pedestrian' and down to women having 'eggshell skulls' my sympathy for Jane feeling like he's been punched is... non-existent.

I caught the start of this interview while I was driving (having just listened to the excellent Susan Smith). He had just made the point that the outcome of the decision might not be clear cut because it all depends what is meant by 'biological sex' when I arrived at my destination and switched the radio off. I don't know how the interviewer followed this up but, if this is the next approach of the activists, played out in the open, it will really demonstrate how the whole ramshackle ideology depends on the mangling of commonly understood language.

Gas lighting hyperbole was the phrase that sprang into my mind!

Fantastic news! Well done and so many thanks to FWS, Sex Matters, the Lesbian Interveners, and everyone else who soldiered on.

I've opened the emergency jelly meerkats in celebration (king of vegetarian jelly sweets; not always in the shops).

Having a lovely time imagining the following holding the world's shittest commiseration party:

NHS Fife
Stonewall
SNP
Lib Dems
Greens
Robin White
Helen Webberley
Owen Jones
Willoughby
Fox Botherer
Eddie Izzard
Various Mumsnet scolders

Have I forgotten to invite anyone?

Thanks for the additional suggestions everyone. The pity party now includes:

-David Tennant and James O'Brien having a loud sanctimonious lefty wokebro-off in the corner
-Tom Daley wandering round in his swimming trunks for no reason
-Bloke off C4 late night show doing a limp medley of Girls Aloud B-sides on a piano with his knob
-Miridul Wadhwa serenely telling everyone to reframe their trauma

Obviously only the biologically female attendees will do any clearing up at the end.

Ecocool · 16/04/2025 14:17

Really emotional watching this live this morning. I've just recovered and been able to explain to DH what this is all about.

We have our single sex spaces back. Men out of our sports etc etc.

Terfs rule. Our daughters' futures are safer. Women's hospital stays are safer. The UK is a better place today because of For Women Scotland.

My DL doesn't have a family room. It's pretty small by DL club standards but children do use it and over the age of 8 they have to use the correct sex based room (unless they are trans of course).

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 16/04/2025 14:19

@Beowulfa Obviously only the biologically female attendees will do any clearing up at the end.

In that case Nicola Sturgeon gets a separate invitation. She made this mess, she can bloody well clear up.

The Harry Potter Actors? The ones who owe their fortunes to JKR and shat on her.

Snp GIF by The Scottish Conservatives

Yeah
That it was FWS who achieved this victory restores my faith in the people of Scotland after all that the Scottish politicians have done to undermine that faith.
The gif is just a reminder of what the leaders of Scotland have done to the people of Scotland, and it seems an appropriate metaphor for how today's ruling reflects on their disconnected from reality insane policies.

I can hear the narcissistic, fetishy rage all the way from here in the Welsh hills.
