How to object to NHS Fife wanting to deny public access to Peggie tribunal

Word has filtered down to me that Edinburgh Employment Tribunal has received very few objections to NHS Fife's attempts to deny public access (in person or remote) to the second part of the hearing due in July. It may be that people have been confused about where to send objections.

Please, if you object to Fife NHS's attempt to have justice done behind closed doors, with no one of a GC persuasion permitted to attend, email
[email protected]
quoting case ref: 4104864/2024 - Peggie v Fife Health Board edited by MNHQ

and tell them why you think this needs to be heard in public, with ordinary members of the public allowed to watch remotely and in person.

This needs to be done in the next 48 hours or so. Decisions are swayed by complaints received. No complaints, the assumption is that no one cares.

Thanks, and please pass this information on.

I had not heard that there was a problem until today...

They have tried to sneak this under the radar. Where did you hear about it? Am i right in thinking they tried to do this at the start of the tribunal?

JamesWebbSpaceTelescope · 12/04/2025 17:20

I’ve sent an email - do you think it will actually make a difference?

Pluvia · 12/04/2025 17:26

I've been away for several days: I assumed that this issue would have been covered and discussed at length here:

This is a random but relatively straightforward article about what NHS Fife is trying to do: basically prevent the public from online access, ban Tribunal Tweets from reporting and allow on bona fide journalists to access the case.

NHS Fife has requested only media be allowed to watch the livestream of the case brought against it by nurse Sandie Peggie.

Done, thanks for explaining. I had read an article but didn't realise we could do anything.

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 12/04/2025 17:31

Thank-you for doing this Pluvia.

It seems that NHSFife is trying out all dirty tricks!

Is this a good sign about the case itself?

No idea how the Scottish justice system works, but I've been assured by several politicians that having a handful of letters/ emails of objection can be useful. They tend to judge how much attention they need to give a particular subject by how much response it gets. They know that people are generally a bit lethargic and don't act, so when they 20 emails or letters they are more inclined to take the issue up.

If you care about this at all, just send an email. Five minutes of your time, not even the cost of a stamp. Better to do something so easy, even it if's likely to be futile, than do nothing at all.

Edited

No idea, but as the last sessions ended with Naomi Cunningham adding Louise Curran, Upton's manager, as a named respondent in the case and also asking for Upton's phone to be handed over for forensic examination so that they could check the communications between him and Curran and others involved, I am hoping that that found a massive great pile of dirty laundry that Fife are anxious not to display in public. Fife had, of course, already admitted to not releasing all the material they should have done. I imagine there's even more skulduggery to be revealed.

I can't remember what the rules are on linking to other threads but surely no one could object to me linking to this one, only a few threads down the page: go to the last few pages to see more people with better knowledge than me speculating on what's going on behind the scenes!

And can you imagine the fuss they'll face in July if they don't allow public access? We're saving the court from a whole load of avoidable faff, really. They can thanks us later.

BungledBundle · 12/04/2025 18:06

Written.

I think this has been discussed on the Sandie Peggie threads but probably good to have a separate thread too.

Edited to correct spelling. Also see you've signposted that thread anyway!

Puttinginthemiles · 12/04/2025 18:07

I've also emailed. Regular on here, but frequent name changer.

unwashedanddazed · 12/04/2025 18:13

Thank you for the thread. I'm extremely concerned about the precedent denying public access could set. I've just emailed and alongside my concerns about public access I've included a link to the Seen article shared in the main thread that describes how important Tribunal Tweets are.
