How to object to NHS Fife wanting to deny public access to Peggie tribunal

Pluvia · 12/04/2025 16:54

Word has filtered down to me that Edinburgh Employment Tribunal has received very few objections to NHS Fife's attempts to deny public access (in person or remote) to the second part of the hearing due in July. It may be that people have been confused about where to send objections.

Please, if you object to Fife NHS's attempt to have justice done behind closed doors, with no one of a GC persuasion permitted to attend, email
[email protected]
quoting case ref: 4104864/2024 - Peggie v Fife Health Board edited by MNHQ

and tell them why you think this needs to be heard in public, with ordinary members of the public allowed to watch remotely and in person.

This needs to be done in the next 48 hours or so. Decisions are swayed by complaints received. No complaints, the assumption is that no one cares.

Thanks, and please pass this information on.

Have resent the email with correct case reference.

katmarie · 14/04/2025 10:12

A bit late to the party, but I have emailed too.

macaroonmayhem · 14/04/2025 10:15

Done! I am an NHS Fife ‘customer’ so I added that in as an extra reason why I wanted access🙂.

Pluvia · 14/04/2025 10:18

Wow: well done, everyone. I occasionally get the feeling that things have gone very quiet here in Feminism: Sex and Gender. So many of the old names have gone. Amazing to discover it's still hotbed of reality. Let's hope we make a bit of an impact.

Done

CarefulN0w · 14/04/2025 10:24

Have also emailed in late from my (relevant) work address. I wanted to make the point that in addition to the important arguments about open, transparent process, access to the proceedings, either directly or via tribunal tweets is also important to those of us needing to implement policies.

QuetzalTerfLus · 14/04/2025 10:25

Also emailed in. It just seems so wrong that anyone would want to restrict access, from either side. When your arguments have massive ramifications for the rest of us, we need to be allowed to hear them!

Iizzyb · 14/04/2025 10:42

Done - there was a template email linked on x as well

Thanks for sharing this @Pluvia

AnneKipankitoo · 14/04/2025 10:44

I am surprised there are only 20 mentioned in the article.

Cailin66 · 14/04/2025 11:25

My email has gone in, I went into a bit of detail on the importance of live reporting and Tribunal tweets etc.

I also mentioned that without Tribunal tweets we might not know what is going on because many of the newspaper articles are subscription only. Which means not everyone can access them.

TT have just updated the other thread. @justabaker

There have been hundreds of emails.

Mmmnotsure · 14/04/2025 11:43

@Justabaker 's post from the other thread:

Dear Mumsnetters,
You are awesome. We understand that the tribunal has received hundreds of emails in support of the Peggie tribunal remaining 'accessible to the public'. This is what we've been told this morning. We haven't seen the actual emails as there are so many. What would be helpful is to see copies of emails, redacted to remove personal details as you wish.

You can either attach a screenshot as an image here or on X, tagging Tribunal Tweets or email Tribunal Tweets - [email protected]
Thank you!

SinnerBoy · 14/04/2025 13:16

Thanks, Mmmnotsure I was just looking to see if someone had linked it!

That's a really good point.

It's potentially discriminatory to restrict online access. Who finds it most difficult to attend in person - people with disabilities or those with caring responsibilities (who are more likely to be female).

Tribunal Tweets should be allowed to see the analysis produced by NHS FIFE's lawyers - no justice, let alone open justice, if they cant see what they've been accused of. I didnt say this but with no recording of the tribunal who is to say if TT or NHS FIFE's lawyers recollection of what was said is most accurate?

These are also good points @Pluvia

  • disabled
  • carers
Plus
  • working people
  • people far away

I actually live in a different country, and without on here and the likes of TT I'd have no clue what was going on. The newspapers can be great, but they don't give all the details, not the way on here and TT does.

Retiredfromthere · 14/04/2025 14:59

I emailed and pointed out that there are two problems with relying only on press coverage:

  1. there is a trend towards not trusting what we read in the press
  2. the press coverage is likely to dwell on the more sensational aspects.

It did occur to me that if writing to the judge again (I got the case number wrong) I would like to thank the earlier decision not to hold this tribunal in secret and not to conceal the name of the TW involved.

MarkWithaC · 14/04/2025 15:07

Just emailed. Thank you everyone for coordinating. I hope I wasn't too late.

I don't think that can be true @Igmum as we've all used the address Pluvia gave and had automated replies from the tribunal.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 14/04/2025 18:47

Very last minute, but done.

Igmum · 14/04/2025 18:47

Hope you're right NImum - here's the quote from Google:

The Edinburgh Employment Tribunal's email address for general inquiries is [email protected]. You can also contact them at the following address: George House 126 George Street, Edinburgh, EH2 4HH

I'll send mine to both
