Is there any future you'd accept for trans people?

Hello, I'm a young trans person who transitioned in my teens. I've been on hormones my entire adult life, have a GRC and will have Gender Reassignment Surgery imminently.

Is there any future you would accept for people like me who have gone through everything?

It’s a shame OP hasn’t engaged a bit more, I’m not sure what they wanted from the thread but my over-riding thought (well after the obvious one, that they can’t be a man) is that they clearly have some serious mental health issues and would be making a huge mistake if they think the path they’re going down is going to help with or ‘fix’ them. I also find it 100% unacceptable that anyone would be able to perform this type of surgery on someone so clearly vulnerable.

From the Telegraph: "Experts said the impact of the sex-changing drugs on bodily functions are under-researched and under-reported, with people “not being informed of the risks at gender clinics”.

Around 87 per cent of the participants had urinary symptoms such as incontinence, frequent toilet visits and bed-wetting, while 74 per cent had bowel issues including constipation or being unable to hold stools or wind in. Some 53 per cent suffered from sexual dysfunction."

It's a tragedy that this is not talked about more often.

Yes. But as I said upthread, it's made a few plastic surgeons very rich.

That is very concerning, isn’t it?

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 17/03/2025 19:07

Basically the people pretending to be trans are ruining it for the genuine ones.

to be trans you have to have disordered and sexist views about men and women. you have to believe that 'men are like this and women are like that', so if you're a man who is like this then you're really a woman.

it's important to always bear in mind that 'trans' doesn't exist without sexism

NormasArse · 17/03/2025 19:07

My personal opinion is that Trans people should be known as such; have their own spaces, like toilets, where they are safe; have their own Olympics, and be recognised as the individuals they are without being vilified.

I think issues arise when people with a male body feel entitled to use female only spaces, and compete in sports that women have trained hard for, but will never have the advantage of male hormones.

However, I understand that sometimes those lines are blurred, as women can have more male hormones than usual, and men can have fewer. This is why these issues need to be looked at very carefully. Perhaps we could have male, female, and mixed toilets?

I also take issue with the notion that it’s easier to be a woman. It fucking isn’t. Anyone who has struggled with periods/menopause and the affects on MH will tell you that. Women feel minimised by this attitude.

All that said, as an individual, I wish you nothing but good. I hope you have the life you wish for.

? It's your kind of frothing at the mouth over the top overreaction

oh behave….that wasnt frothy or over the top or an overreaction

MyrtleLion · 17/03/2025 19:12

I'm really concerned that the OP might be a gay man who hasn't been allowed to grow into his sexuality and/or someone who has mental health issues that are unresolved and won't be resolved by surgery.

I worry that he will lose sexual function and will never knew the pleasure that it can bring and I worry that he has already done so by being on blockers.

Mostly I want to share Ritchie Herron's story because he's a detransitioner and his story breaks my heart and I want to spare the OP that.

a woman with short black hair is smiling and wearing a blue hoodie

I changed sex and instantly regretted it - I now live as neutered man

RITCHIE HERRON lives in pain. He struggles with incontinence, weakened bones, a numb crotch and suicidal feelings. But the 35-year-old’s symptoms are not the result of a genetic disorder or disease…

A lot of heterosexual women are very threatened by trans women.this is probably not the best site to hear other women's opinions as the very strong sisterhood subscribers don't want their club disrupted.

Elsvieta · 17/03/2025 19:02

I don't quite understand what you mean there. No, nobody can actually literally change sex. Those who are changed legally do not change biologically. And therefore the issue of biological males ending up in female spaces very much DOES arise.

It is apparent that many people seem to assume that a GRC does somehow imply a change of sex. Clearly it doesn’t, therefore whatever the “legal” implications of a GRC it should not qualify a male bodied person, however modified, to access female spaces, nor for the same reason a female bodied person, however modified, to access male spaces.

Nope, you were correct first time.

teentantrums · 17/03/2025 19:20

Having worked in healthcare, I am amazed at the awful lengths that people will go to because they believe it will help them. Both surgical and hormonal "treatments" play havoc with healthy bodies. As you get older you realise how precious health is, not something to be gambled with.

Elsvieta · 17/03/2025 18:16

No, I wouldn't. If males were allowed in female prisons at all, they'd need to have had the surgery and hormones and all that, and the GRC, before conviction.

Agreed. The question is exactly how it should work - how we can have people who are not, in law, the sex that they are in actual fact, whilst still protecting women against that minority of trans women who are a danger to us. It's a tricky issue; I don't see easy answers. Which is why it's important to not shut down debate.

It can't work.

The sex specific needs you may have or risks you may present are real world outcome of the sex you are, not the theoretical consequece of what a piece of paper says.

The physical and social consequences of body sex are real and do not get legislated away simply because the law agreed your sex has changed so the idea that a legal sex can override your actual sex is a logical and ethical failure.

A GRC may have meaning in law but it is meaningless in any real, moral sense. It can force others to allow you cross-sex rights and access but it cannot create or take away the actual need for them because that is tied to your true sex.

Over 50% of the population according to YouGov but with a nuanced approach depending on context.

Out of all of the sexist stereotypes, I'm coming to think that women being told to Be Kind is the most damaging and undermining. What it means in practise is 'put yourself second', 'prioritise men', 'be quiet, don't make a fuss'.

Women, statistically, are not unkind. We don't murder, we're not violent, we don't rape. All of those things are things men do to us.

But we are admonished to be nice, be sweet, smile more, empathise, sacrifice, budge up, make allowances, be understanding, extend sympathy, be good.

And we are the ones chanting <Be Kind> at each other, chastising any women who step out of line. Policing each other, playing pick-me, showing each other how virtuous and good we are. Its sick when you think about it.

Edited

Good grief. "Women, statistically, are not unkind"

Where did you come up with this pollyanna bollocks?

I note you then listed physical characteristics of abuse, no mention of mental abuse.

Is there a female equivalent?

We’re threatened by men, which TIM’s are. You’ll be telling us next that we’re jealous of them because they do ‘womaning’ better than we do. It’s laughable.
