I've heard complaints from Americans about - they'll point out that people are always complaining about Russian interference in the US and elsewhere, but what is the US government funding political causes in other countries then?
In Canada, one of the excuses for freezing the protesting truckers bank accounts was that they were getting money from US donors - and those were private donations, not from the government.
It's why I can't get teary eyed about these government institutions being put on a leash now, even though I think it's probably not the most qualified people handling it. You can't go around spending public funds like that and not expect a backlash.
I think there is a lot of trouble coming generally for the whole NGO lobbying sector.
