The Mail reporting is clearer...

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14392643/Transgender-woman-court-rape-girl-sexually-assault-boy.html

Transgender woman Maddison Wilson, 37, is accused of abusing the young girl 'with your penis' in 2011, according to the charge sheet.

Wilson is also accused of sexually assaulting a boy under the age of 13 around six years later.

The alleged sex offender spoke only to confirm their preferred pronouns of 'she/her' in the dock at Southampton Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The Daily Echo should follow the example of the Scottish Daily Express who have chosen to refer to Dr Upton as a man in the employment tribunal:

First and foremost, we are calling him a man because biologically he is a man. He was born and grew up as a male, called Theodore Upton, and he has not obtained a gender recognition certificate to allow him to legally change his gender (not his sex; it is, of course, impossible for a human being to change sex). Why the Scottish Express is referring to Dr Beth Upton as a 'man' in Fife nurse tribunal - Scottish Daily Express

I don't know what the consequences have been for the Scottish Daily Express, but it would help if there were a few 'I am Spartacus' moments from other publications challenging the IPSO guidelines.

Good old BBC, still using female pronouns.

TwistedWonder · 26/02/2025 12:11

The judge referred to Mr Wilson - correctly imo.

It does look like suicide from the local reports.

This one should.

So sickening to read that BBC article with the "she" pronouns. The poor victim will never get justice now.

Misshaped · 26/02/2025 14:52

Has anyone made a complaint to the BBC about this? I usually eyeroll at their inability to use the correct sex but the crimes here are so awful that the she pronouns have made me particularly angry. The article describes the offence as rape which by definition can only be committed by a man. What has happened is tragic for his family but the onus should be on seeking justice for the young victims and not validating him. Sticking on a pink hairband does not make you female 🙄 It seems to me that the BBC are more concerned with protecting a rapist than the victims’ feelings. Those victims will be in absolute no doubt about who he was.

Fenlandia · 26/02/2025 15:12

The Telegraph manages to avoid female pronouns, apart from a direct quote:

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/02/26/trans-woman-dies-facing-trial-for-raping-young-girl/

My sympathies to the victims, the girl who was raped and at least one boy who was sexually assaulted..

SerendipityJane · 26/02/2025 15:14

Has anyone made a complaint to the BBC about this?

Best complaint is to not pay your licence fee.

ProudDadDan · 26/02/2025 15:50

Weird how it's only trans people that make the headlines instead of the hundreds of thousands of cisgendered people....

Weird how complaints are only about missing out the identities you want to bully and marginalise... for instance would you complain that they missed out their faith, or their socio-economic status, or their profession?.....

So rare you see the headline "Rich, white, Christian pedophile...."....

Justice will be sought regardless of whether you deny someone their human right to identity or not... And bullying, nor vigilantism is justice...

The dead rapist in this case is a man pretending to be a woman, that's why it's unusual enough to be noticed.

You seem to take some delight in their death. And I'll wait for the receipts on whether their identity had any bearing on their offences. I suspect it's just a dog-whistle the papers use to get your clicks...

The objection is to describing and referring to a man accused of rape - an offence which only a male with a penis can commit - as a 'woman' or 'she'.

In other cases people have objected to a male murderer and a man convicted of inciting child sexual abuse being described and referred to as a 'woman' and 'she'.

These offenders are not women.

They are men, the sex class responsible for 75% of violent crimes, 93% of murders and 98% of sexual offences.

Who are all correctly to referred to by their biological sex in the media.

Rape isn’t a woman’s crime and the perpetrator should be clearly referred to by their biological sex

Weird how many male sex offenders suddenly realise they’re women once they’re due in court

Talkinpeace · 26/02/2025 16:07

The judge correctly sexed him today in closing the case

They were a man who raped a child - their sex has an absolute bearing on them committing a male crime. The media is correct to bring this to the public’s attention ton,

Wearing a pink headband doesn’t change what they did to a child. Any sympathy for the victim here?

And I imagine people from any of the listed groups would be angry as well, had the rapist claimed they were, say, black when actually white, Christian when actually atheist, or poor if they had a million in the bank.

It's implicit in the charges that the person in this case is natally male, and the fact that they live, socially, as a woman has no bearing on the charges that they are accused of. And the only reason you're here, discussing this case and not the thousands of others is that this person lived as a woman, not the nature of circumstances of the crime.

This has more to do with the stereotypes you want to enforce on people than the nature of the crimes they may have been accused of or even convicted of.

And there is no evidence that offending rates in the trans woman community can be extrapolated form the broader male population save for some twitter hack-job statistics. There's more to offending than chromosomes.

How many is it? There are perhaps a handful out of the thousands.... which is the expected ratio of trans people in the broader community...

It's just click-bait you're falling for.

I imagine this group would be equally as angry if we held biology as deterministic of your role in society... something feminism has fought hard against...

It doesn’t matter if it’s 1 - it’s not a woman’s crime and therefore shouldn’t be recorded or reported as such.

So please do mansplain 'living as a woman' to me, an actual woman would love to know.

If you can avoid the words make up and dresses, that would be great.

Thanks in advance.

As an actual woman, and therefore in the category of human beings who commit only 1% of sexual crimes, I utterly object to this male person being misrepresented as a woman. Doing so skews public perception and - even more outrageously - in some cases, the official statistics used to measure crime and allocate resources to tackling it.

Facts matter. Accurate reporting matters.

Ah A Man has arrived to lecture women about how they should feel about a male rapist larping as a woman

lucky lucky us 🙄
