Respecting space and breaks isn't something I've witnessed. It's usually whooping and cries of "She can't answer!" From multiple posters of questions aren't immediately answered

so you are saying that on a transphobic hate site that it a trans person was on a thread that posters would be calling them ‘she’

well thats rubbish for a start

I had no idea about the connotations of uppity, so I appreciate the explanations on this thread.

Same.

myplace · 08/02/2025 21:47

Uppity is a great word. Not one I’ve ever used- I would say I have a different one that does the same job, it’s very Father Brown, ideas above your station kind of vibe- but I just don’t think I ever need to cast that aspersion! Very vintage.

I’m really sad it has such awful connotations.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 08/02/2025 22:03

Connecting Dawn Butler to a word that has racist connotations in a country thousands of mile away is racist. It lumps her in with all the other 'black' people and it dehumanised her by reduced her to nothing more than the colour of her skin.

WaitingForMojo · 08/02/2025 17:33

Well, let’s face it, they have a point!

I have never thought MN was anti-trans. It is pro-woman. Oh! That's what they mean by 'anti-trans'. Pause a moment to make head space for that one. Pause again - not worth the effort. Daft appurths, the lot of them.

Grammarnut · 08/02/2025 22:19

MarieDeGournay · 08/02/2025 17:36

You know what they say: Heaven for the climate, Hell for the company.

I'm puzzled by the inclusion of 'The Countess (NI) [sic] because I doubt very much if an organisation named after Countess Markievicz has a separate operation within NI..
And WTF did 'Belfast Health and Social Care Trust' ever do to them??

I love the comment by the poster, Malcolm Clark, regretting that it was 'in alphabetical order and not a league table. Otherwise I'd have known who to donate to.' Brilliant!

Let's all start gardening like mad for Belfast Health and Social Care Trust! Feck knows what it is, but it must be doing something rightGrin

Correct. The Countess is a Republic organisation. It is very GC.

Scutterbug · 08/02/2025 22:24

Lots of people quoted me but I haven’t time to reply individually.
Opinions on what is transphobic are very differing. I think that insisting that being trans is a mental illness is incredibly insulting but it is regularly peddled here.
Also often suggested that if you support trans rights you don’t support women’s rights which is absolute nonsense.
I think that being derogatory and disrespectful is akin to transphobia whereas others will disagree.
I stand by what I said though, I would never suggest that any friends of mine who are trans, should come here for support!

What do you mean by trans rights?

Enough4me · 08/02/2025 22:29

Best stick the whole of the subject science and everything that is fact-based on the list then.

Grammarnut · 08/02/2025 22:30

This is worrying. This person is an MP? Is he a lama? or possibly a llama? If he is a lama, I think that's okay but difficult. If he's a llama that might make his seat in the Commons a bit difficult of access. Or have I got that the wrong way round; it's latish and I don't have dictionary handy.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 08/02/2025 22:34

"I think that insisting that being trans is a mental illness is incredibly insulting but it is regularly peddled here."

It might be insulting but there's good reasons for thinking it's true, which is why it gets regularly mentioned.

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 08/02/2025 22:34

so you think its similar…but not actually transphobic

Oh no! MumsNet should be a huggy, cuddly world of "there, there, let Mummy make it better". Fuck that shit!

Mothers fight tooth and nail to protect their children. It is what we do.

I see MumsNet being included in this list as a mark of pride.

Shetlands · 08/02/2025 22:49

I don't care how people present themselves and I loathe gender stereotyping but I won't be bullied into agreeing with a lie. People can't change sex - fact. Single-sex spaces are needed for women's and girls' safety and privacy. Transwomen are not biological women, they are a subset of men.

Some might call me transphobic but I contend that they are truthphobic.

Pleased to see Trans Widows Voices included on the roll of honour.

A relative, a life long Labour activist, had a shitty self righteous letter from her.
She wrote about being just above the threshold for pension credit and losing her winter fuel allowance.
Dalton was in an opposite sex marriage. When he died she moved into a same sex marriage. Fair enough, but she describes herself as LGBTQ. All of it. Beats me how you can be all of them.

I'll tell my aunt to identify as a llama.

Keep a llama warm this Winter.

SD1978 · 08/02/2025 23:58

The term is thrown around so quickly to anyone who questions, so it sounds like MN is in good company if the CASS report is in there. Refusing to get dragged into the hysteria of blind acceptance does not constitute being 'phobic' but that's not how it's seen by some people.

Justme56 · 09/02/2025 00:41

I think some people just like to wallow in misery. Everyone hates me etc. Sad that people feel this way but it inevitably leads to isolation as others find them difficult to be around. Maybe Ashley could do some voluntary work and spend a little more time helping those less fortunate.

MrGHardy · 09/02/2025 01:04

"They usualy a have a big persecution complex so they love to try and paint them selves as going up against unreasonable demands".

The irony made me laugh.

MarsScarlet · 09/02/2025 01:11

@EmpressaurusKitty

Although I have heard of a few kittens whose sex was wrongly assigned at birth so maybe someone should have asked them their pronouns.

This happened to my cat. I wanted a girl kitten but a few hours after she arrived I noticed a few additions I hadn't ordered: testicles. 😳

JoyousGreyOrca · 09/02/2025 01:27

It is anti Trans

i'd be wary of pushing the idea that because its not "to do with the body" its therefore automatically a mental illness...
This is the reasoning that labelled gay and lesbians as mentally ill/disordered for so long!
I think we've all moved on and can accept that homosexuality is neither a fetish, a cult or a mental illness (to refer to your comment)
There are lots of points of view of how to approach trans issues, but this wouldnt be an argument i'd promote for this reason
