@Princessconsuelabananahammock9 I'm not who you asked but I think there are few to no jobs that absolutely couldn't be done by a trans person, although some fields might be very difficult to enter (for a trans person as for anyone). And there are lots of individuals who wouldn't be suitable for a given job.

The exception might be sport because I don't see how the competing desires can be resolved there without massive concrete disadvantage to women. So in that case I guess I think that in a fair outcome, trans women can't "be" sportspeople as a job. But then, most people in sport are not doing that as their full time job anyway, and it wouldn't preclude trans people from working in sport more generally.

With sport, I wonder if we will come to a time when we assess people by capability rather than sex, like parasport where you can’t expect people with different disabilities, or degree of disability, to compete against each other.

Can you explain this more?

Capability is already usually considered in competition. Hence there are often different divisions for different skill levels.. Or is it that you believe that male people don't have advantage, or pose an injury risk, to female athletes?

And do you mean for competitive sport or social sport?

ArabellaScott · 10/02/2025 21:05

I tried to catch up but tripped over this:

"the snowdrops gave a feminine touch to the table"

I mean, eh?! How are snowdrops feminine? What do floral table arrangements have to do with being a real woman? Do I need to go and dig up a clump and throw them on the table to prove I'm a woman?

ArabellaScott · 10/02/2025 21:06

It's exactly the kind of reductive, absurd, sexist shite I've railed against since I was a girl.

Helleofabore · 10/02/2025 21:12

I must admit, after seeing Upton attempt to assert control over Naomi Cunningham's use of language, and Upton's absolute refusal to acknowledge Upton's sex, I am viewing people's determination to only view other's refusal to prioritise that persons philosophical beliefs that do not reflect material reality as being 'anti' or 'hate' or 'phobic' in a slightly altered light tonight.

That court session that I watched was a demonstration and a half. I am very disturbed by the domination that was on show around language and belief. But it is no surprise, we see versions of it regularly. However, even familiarity did not prepare me for today's court session.

no. we we will still divide sport by sex so that for example women boxers will compete against a female boxer in the same weight category not a heavier one. Men will always run faster, jump higher, punch harder than women

Only if you want men to make up all the sports teams in existence and win everything all of the time.

Same. After a few hours on reflection I find it upsetting.

If tennis wasn't split by sex Serena Williams would be ranked at around 300 and you probably wouldn't have even heard about her

Some people do pass in real life. I’m with one of them.

What a superficial way to assess the validity of an ideology

MarieDeGournay · 10/02/2025 21:39

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 10/02/2025 19:54

Because you would refer to them differently.

This could affect how others now see them or refer to them if you call them a woman and then they meet a man.

It seems safer for those that pass to just stay quiet and go about their business.

The goal of being trans is to pass as the opposite gender not much point informing people who will change thier opinion.

It is a fact that they are trans, so it isn't one's opinion of them that changes, it's one's knowledge.

This was in reference to something someone said which I’m sure you read.

But of course it’s based on the superficial to some degree.

The whole point is to pass as the opposite sex. They do this through hormones and surgery usually.

Serena herself has acknowledged this and has gone as far to say the women's game is almost a completely different game to the men's because of the physical differences between men and women.

MarieDeGournay · 10/02/2025 22:05

The whole point is to pass as the opposite sex.

But there's a large cohort of trans people who are very keen to make it known that they are trans, and organise and campaign energetically around being trans. Which is a bit of a giveaway if you are trying to pass as the opposite sex.

EasternStandard · 10/02/2025 22:10

The whole point is to pass as the opposite sex.

And the sex people pass as?

Is there any consideration for their safety, privacy and fairness?

Reading your posts below it sounds like you think there should be when it's men passing as women

I’ve already agreed with single sex spaces and sports.

Not sure what more you want me to say?

I think she said that if she played Andy Murray the match would be over in 10 minutes

And vanishingly few people do even then.

The best centrepiece to any table is a cleaned and polished cylinder block.

Enough4me · 10/02/2025 23:18

If trans people exist, they need trans rights, which is separate trans facilities (and healthcare) and not sex-based facilities.

If they are just pretending and don't exist as a separate group, then they'll try to deceive people by 'passing' as the sex which they are not and can never be.

A coin lands on one side because it's not possible for both outcomes to exist.

This doesn’t even make sense.

They do exist, and for most they want to pass.

Which is deceit.

So trans people should not look like the opposite sex and if they do they need to have some sort of button they wear so people know they are trans?

Why would this matter to anyone?

Do you need to know if someone is trans when you interact with them?

My sister can pass as white at times, does she need to announce she’s black?
