nauticant · 06/02/2025 11:39

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 January 2025 and is expected to continue for 2 weeks.

Access to view the hearing remotely can be obtained by sending an email request to [email protected] headed Public Access Request (Peggie v Fife Health Board) 4104864/2024 and requesting access.

"What support I might need. Referral to occupational health, speak to my GP, attend private counselling org via GP to process what had happened to me"

And then he consulted the BMA about the draft of his complaint.

GailBlancheViola · 06/02/2025 15:25

Thanks to everyone updating, I do appreciate it.

We decided we should complete a 'datex' (?) as a hate incident. Dr Searle did it in my presence.

Hate incident? Another doctor encouraged him to report it as a hate incident? OK, I'm done

ArabellaScott · 06/02/2025 15:26

Contacted BMA for advice.

murasaki · 06/02/2025 15:27

I suppose NC can't ask about a GRC directly, but could imply via timelines that there wasn't one without referring directly to him?

It might have been his first complaint, but he seems to have arrived well versed in what to do before and after you raise one.

larklane17 · 06/02/2025 15:27

He certainly knows how to work the system.

RoamingGnome · 06/02/2025 15:27

I would hazard a guess that any consultant he came into contact with is well aware that they would come into his firing line for complaints if they didn't comply. Junior doctors move on frequently so they will only have to put up with him for a few weeks or months before he's on a different ward or health board. He also sounds very manipulative. Dealing with tricky juniors is a nightmare, regardless of the scenario, and this is an absolute humdinger. None of that excuses their treatment of nursing staff but it's what happens in real life.

Why oh why are the NHS employing a doctor who is so fragile that he needs counselling! More of our tax £££££ all to tell a bloke he’s not welcome in the ladies! OFFS

I think it's more annoying that this isn't how they treat female doctors. Plenty of women have been on here saying they needed help for depression, or physical health and they were ignored. But special DrU gets straight to OH, and helps writing up complaints etc.

AnnaMagnani · 06/02/2025 15:20

Had to go and do some actual work, just got back and can't believe what I am reading.

My experience as a female junior doctor, with severe depression, is so light years away from the absolute bending over backwards this useless man has had I don't know where to begin.

Fuming doesn't even begin to cover it.

Sorry to hear. Been through similar. The contrast is rather stark.

Appalonia · 06/02/2025 15:28

Management should have sent him on some resilience training! Not colluded with his delusions and facilitated this witch hunt of a hard working nurse.

Indeed. Ironically, the commoner (though generally unrecorded) complaint is of nurses being unhelpful and uncooperative with doctors because the doctors are women. Perhaps if Dr U realised this he might have felt reassured in his identity.

ThatPithySheep · 06/02/2025 15:29

I could never be a lawyer. I'm always impressed by how calm NC stays whereas I'd want to just be rolling my eyes and sighing a lot at all the bollocks DrU is spouting

Appalonia · 06/02/2025 15:29

Did he then say he was then working in obstetrics?

Yes, it seems actual women are fair game to be abused by everyone. With the complicity and enabling of management. It is a hate crime for the women to assert their own rights to not be subject to such abusive behaviour.

PoshCoffee · 06/02/2025 15:30

Diddums. He was afraid the complainant may bring an ET and it made him sad.

ThatPithySheep · 06/02/2025 15:31

He was 100% looking for a fight and if it hadn't been SP he'd have kept going until someone said No. I wonder how many others he kept notes on in the anticipation that he could make a complaint

murasaki · 06/02/2025 15:31

Appalonia · 06/02/2025 15:29

Missed that. I have absolutely no issue whatsoever with men working in obstetrics. But I do expect them to know what a woman is.

Shortshriftandlethal · 06/02/2025 15:31

Appalonia · 06/02/2025 15:29

Anaesthetics

Appalonia · 06/02/2025 15:31

Didn't want to be subject to this level of political, media interest. Ha!

CriticalCondition · 06/02/2025 15:31

This is on the 29th December. The one time of year when most people are away/on holiday/with their families/short staffed/doing short hours. But they have to drop everything so he doesn't feel sad.

TWETMIRF · 06/02/2025 15:32

He's the one who made it personal by picking on her

ArabellaScott · 06/02/2025 15:32

'it was more about an opposition to me, and my identity, and my presence'

PoshCoffee · 06/02/2025 15:32

Wobbly voice now. Due to being asked how he felt about being named as a respondent.

I think it’s very clear she names him because he was harassing her.
