Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

I think males should be banned from female sport and anyone should be allowed to enter the male / open category. The US President has just signed an executive order saying this.

Females need their own sports for reasons of fairness, competitiveness and safety. I am glad that orders like this make it easier to talk about these issues without being called a biggot.

Everyone deserves fair opportunities, women and girls are under represented in sport, this can only help that get a little better.

Transgender sports people also clearly deserve opportunities to participate in sport and so trans women and men should be allowed to enter male / open categories or have their own categories if needed.

Trump to sign executive order barring transgender female athletes from competing

President Donald Trump is signing an executive order designed to prevent people who were biologically assigned male at birth from participating in women’s or girls' sporting events.

Not getting involved in this toxicity one way or another - but this is at least the 3rd AIBU you have started, all on the "trans issue" in less than 24 hours. Avoiding the feminism boards because they are so toxic, so now it's "leaking" into other areas. Do we really need more of this? Nobody is going to change their minds, and between the "trans rants" (on either side), the M&H rants, the benefits / disabled people rants, and the bloody ads / crappy working of the site, it's getting to be a place that is no longer welcoming of anyone at all.

You don't have to be here...

I think you mean you can smell the testosterone coming off that statement.

Fair point, well made.

Trans women are women

So-called "trans women" are males.

Butchyrestingface · 05/02/2025 13:01

I’m interested to see how an open category works out. I predict just about every trans person getting the arses handed them in competitions that pitch them against biological men.

The boxing matches will be a sight to behold.

Presumably trans men if they are on testosterone treatment would have to compete in an open category too?

This feels like a pretty duff outcome (albeit perhaps not as duff as men playing in women's sports). If a man were to say he wasn't comfortable competing against a woman in e.g. rugby I'd think that was pretty fair.

UndermyShoeJoe · 05/02/2025 13:16

Trans women are trans women. They are not women.

You can’t change an XX to a XY or reverse.

Its about time biological men where stopped from stamping all over women’s sports and spaces frankly.

arethereanyleftatall · 05/02/2025 13:19

Nobody is going to change their minds

I actually disagree with this @EmmaMaria

I think many people say twaw because they haven't actually thought about it as it doesn't impact them and the marketing has filtered through that it's the 'nice' thing to say. Once anyone sane thinks about it, and it's impact, they will change their mind.

Chersfrozenface · 05/02/2025 13:19

FindusMakesPancakes · 05/02/2025 12:55

I think it is more that he couldn't give a shiny shit about women, but this is a useful populist tool to keep idiots on his side.

Women's rights in the US are in dire straits. Preventing trans women compete in women's events is a hollow victory in the face of diminished healthcare and abortion rights.

Edited

No Executive Order that I can find on abortion rights.

Which are dealt with at state level, a situation which persisted throughout Democratic presidencies and which the Democrats made no attempt to alter.

Incidentally, at the same time as the Presidential election (and others) there were ballots on abortion rights in 10 states - and the measures passed in 7 of them.

Including Arizona, Missouri, Nevada and Montana, which Trump won.

They so aren't @littledotheyknow

This is agonising. Why on earth are the left leaving reality and common sense to be 'wins' for Trump and the right? They seem determined to throw the votes of the vast majority away.

Lovelysummerdays · 05/02/2025 12:46

They can compete just in the categories of thier biological sex surely?

The females are classed as doping by taking performancing enhansing drugs as they chase the "male" hormones levels of testosterone.

Dotjones · 05/02/2025 13:28

The "open" category is the only one that should exist. Everyone should compete together. Sport is a meritocracy, people should be grouped on ability. There are plenty of female athletes who are better than some men who play the same sport.

MidnightPatrol · 05/02/2025 13:29

In thirty years people are going to look back not his moment re: males competing in women’s sport, and be baffled by how it happened!

Terrible idea, women wouldn’t even qualify for most
elite events if there was only one ‘open’ category.

Not much good for women wanting to compete.

Are you volunteering to go up against a male heavyweight? What would a mixed sex rugby tackle look like for the woman?

Why does it bother you what a trans person is doing? You're not protecting women, you're attacking trans people.

YANBU but in the wider world people are doubling down on their TWAW stance because the sense in this one decision is lost in the insanity of his others. To too many people it just looks like one more crazy Trumpism.

Is that true though? This feels more like "well I hate trump but he's got it right this time"

What, like when 203rd-ranked German Karsten Braasch beat Serena Williams and Venus Williams back-to-back at the 1998 Australian Open.

After the sisters said that they could beat any man outside the top 200. Even they recognised that 200 men could beat them, and as it turned out probably more could have done.

How would even the Williams sisters have ever won an open competition?

Well I can't think of a single one? Please name them.

Olympic level female athletes wouldn't meet the criteria to compete even on just the England School Boys teams.

It's reasons like this that mean Reform is leading in the polls, until Labour have a sensible immigration policy and say women are adult human females, idiots like Trump and Reform lead the way.
