I think males should be banned from female sport and anyone should be allowed to enter the male / open category. The US President has just signed an executive order saying this.

Females need their own sports for reasons of fairness, competitiveness and safety. I am glad that orders like this make it easier to talk about these issues without being called a biggot.

Everyone deserves fair opportunities, women and girls are under represented in sport, this can only help that get a little better.

Transgender sports people also clearly deserve opportunities to participate in sport and so trans women and men should be allowed to enter male / open categories or have their own categories if needed.

Well, no. Because primarily trans sportspeople aren't just dressing as the opposite sex but are in the process of transitioning, if not already fully completed. So it's not a level playing field from any perspective really.

I don't think this order does make it easier to talk about these issues without being called a bigot, though. Because the person ordering it is a known bigot and many people of all political persuasions will not wish to be seen to be siding with him. And those calling women transphobic/ TERFs for holding the same views will use this as proof that we're all bigoted.

Fwiw, I agree. But I wish it was a balanced, sensible leader who was articulating it in a less divisive and more meaningful and sensitive way.

Not getting involved in this toxicity one way or another - but this is at least the 3rd AIBU you have started, all on the "trans issue" in less than 24 hours. Avoiding the feminism boards because they are so toxic, so now it's "leaking" into other areas. Do we really need more of this? Nobody is going to change their minds, and between the "trans rants" (on either side), the M&H rants, the benefits / disabled people rants, and the bloody ads / crappy working of the site, it's getting to be a place that is no longer welcoming of anyone at all.

The problem is with the separate category for those who have actually committed to the hormones to make changes to their body - is that there is far too few of them to make a separate category. Certainly not for something like the Olympics which have rules like 'this sport must be played in x number of countries by x number players.' It's just tough really. In the same way that 99% of the population also have no opportunity ti get ti the Olympics as they're too short, too poor etc etc

Many self described left wing people I know support the TWAW nonsense precisely because the right wing do not. They don’t want to be seen as finding common cause with right wing fundamentalists, Christians etc so they go along with the trans rights groups who insist anyone who doesn’t believe men can be women is a bigot.

It’s actually a bit insane. The left has allowed itself to be cowed by activists and so they deny biological fact just so they are on the ‘right side’. I’ve given up arguing with left leaning friends who believe a man in a skirt and make up has no biological advantage over women and should be allowed to compete against us in sports and share prison space with women.

And as a PP has pointed out, if TWAW then why the need to have ‘trans women’ at the beginning of that mantra. Shouldn’t it just be ‘women are women’. It’s almost as if trans women are different from bio women in some way.
