@Mrsbloggz I was merely using the term so someone didn't come along and claim that I was TWAW

Just don’t use it though… it’s not happening, we’re not doing cis women for women… I’d rather try and make Fetch happen. It’s not happening!

So, in your view, if Trump hadn't issued this EO, that is. if he'd done nothing on the topic, that would have been better, would it? Trump is the POTUS, whether you or I like it or not.

For the zillionth time, approving of the EO in broad terms does NOT equate to supporting other Trump policies.

“A fascist leader”

lazily throwing around terms like fascist are not helpful to anyone, what’s your understanding of fascism?

Anything they disagree with, I think.

RedToothBrush · 21/01/2025 14:44

Haroldwilson · 21/01/2025 12:51

Would you say the same if he abolished gay marriage, brought in gay military bans, banned IVF, etc etc? They're of a piece with this.

You can think what you like about trans issues, a fascist leader making policy to appease right wingers rather than provide for the rights and freedoms of individuals is a bad thing.

It's pandering to the evangelical right and I guarantee you won't like all their views, even if you like this one.

The thing with the trans issue is it's brilliant for discrediting the previous administration. It shows a break in trust by the previous government being shown to lie.

The question then becomes, "well if they lie about something so huge, what else do they lie about?"

This opens the door for the far right to rush in a fill that void saying "well you can't trust them, trust us instead because we speak the truth".

This is dangerous.

A lot of us have been warning about this scenario for some time.

It is on the one hand good that reality is unable to be ignored. But I am fearful about what else comes next and have thought this for a lot longer than most.

This was entirely predictable.

Donttellempike · 21/01/2025 14:44

Anyone who thinks that Trump gives a toss about anyone but himself is completely and utterly deluded.

He’s done this because he hates anyone different to him and because his idiot fan base hate anyone who is not like them too.

He does not care about women or their rights

Women and BAME people are not remotely safe in this new era. And it is fascist.

Musk has already come out in support of the AFD FGS. The successors to the Nazis in Germany.

oakleaffy · 21/01/2025 14:44

AyeDeadOn · 21/01/2025 12:59

This is absurd. It's entirely possible to keep Lia Thomas's penis put of the female changing room and swim team without banning gay marriage. It's not "pandering to the evangelical right". It's a perfectly sensible decision that will protect women and girls from creepy men in a multitude of ways.

I too was delighted when I heard that -and it raised a massive cheer!

No nasty hulking cheating XY's robbing medals from Women in sports.

OuterSpaceCadet · 21/01/2025 14:44

Only men and very privileged women can dismiss concerns over trans ideology as "single issue".

It's fundamentally patriarchal belief system with friends in very high places. As such it has the power to harm women and children in multiple ways. Caring about gay and autistic teenagers, incarcerated women, female hospital patients and rape victims isn't "single issue".

Women's rights isn't "single issue" when women who've experienced discrimination or abuse at the hands of males (of any or no gender id) are affected by this every single day.

Grammarnut · 21/01/2025 14:45

MakeYourOwnMusicStartYourOwnDance · 21/01/2025 13:19

Good day for women?!
You've got to be joking.
He's hardly a friend of women.

No he is not a friend to women but a lot of women support him and they know that their rights to single sex spaces etc have been broached and wrecked by gender ideology. So he has fixed that one - at least at Federal level.

Chersfrozenface · 21/01/2025 14:45

JazzyJelly · 21/01/2025 14:38

Perhaps they'll learn from the Democrats' failure on this issue? Or am I being wildly optimistic?

That would require common sense or at least political smarts. I'm not sure the Labour Party has enough of either at the moment.

CinnamonStick77 · 21/01/2025 14:46

My worry is that in the same breath as introducing this, they're also going to war on women's rights, including the right to abortion. Musk has said things about women being made to reproduce to aid the current population crisis.

I don't think they care one bit about women. I think they care about getting themselves into power and getting their own way.

Grammarnut · 21/01/2025 14:47

HardenYourHeart · 21/01/2025 13:52

No, if anything, this reinforces and entrenches the believe that gender is a real and tangible thing that can be changed and is even "reversible".

If the loudest voices on this issue do not come from a cause of concern for the well-being of children, as well as an understanding that this is pushed by fetishists, we will lose this fight.

Conservatives (for a lack of a better word) do not operate in the interest of the well-being of children or the safety of women of girls for whom it has now become even harder to get away from predators.

These conservatives want "men to be men" and "women to be women" and what they mean by that is to confine women to the home in service of men. Trump stacked the US Supreme Court with conservative judges, who only qualified if they were anti-choice. While Trump did not directly ban abortion, he did everything else to make sure that women in the US lost their access to abortions.

Anti-choicers do not give a shit about life, children or women. The is evidenced by the fact that while a fetus is apparently of infinite value; women dying in children birth, children dying from poverty and the death-penalty; are perfectly acceptable to these people.

Let's not lose sight of their motives, people! This is not a win. It is a set-back.

Edited

There is nothing in the executive order I just read that says any of the things you suggest.

The biggest threat to women's lives is men. Not trans people.

“Trans people” is not a homogenous group.

This nebulous umbrella doesn’t mean more than some men and women believing and/or pretending that they’re something else than the sex and sexual orientation they are born with.

And, in that aspect i totally agree with you, men who claim to be trans to be treated as women represent a real and serious threat to women too.

Women and BAME are not separate categories. Some women are also BAME, some women are not. Try drawing a Venn diagram, it will explain the matter simply.
And AfD has very little support in Germany - it is a response, in some ways, to the racist policies pursued by the EU, which 'others' those who do not meet the EU ideal citizen profile.

Oh, come on, pike! Straw-man, much? Has anyone said, or even implied, that they think Trump GAS about women's rights? But he knows an open-goal when he sees one. It's an easy win for the Repubs, and a great stick to beat Biden and the Dems with. And they have no-one to blame but themselves.

ByMerryKoala · 21/01/2025 14:50

Yes, I'm so pleased to see the direction of travel on this. How the left leaning parties gave up their entire credibility and trust capital on such a ridiculous proposition and throw women and vulnerable children under the bus and exposed to additional and unnecessary harm - I'll never know. More and more, it seems more and more people are prepared to say the Emperor has no clothes.

I believe there will be attacks on LGB rights and protections and I believe there will be attacks on women's rights and protections. I believe this will be done under the guise of "rolling back undemocratic DEI" and "keeping politics out of schools".

The reason I believe this is that it is the rhetoric I already see from his support base. I believe Trump is hooked on their current adulation so any time something he says disappoints them and that adulation drops he will U turn. And I believe there is a good chance he will be able to get these things into law regardless of how many gay conservatives there are.

Remember this is the man who went ahead with building a literal wall on the Mexican border because it pandered to his support base and who has just pardoned people who literally stormed the US parliament in his name. I don't think reasonable conservatives have any hope of reigning him in if he feels it will make him look bad in the eyes of the people who love him.

A common tactic of TRAs is to present themselves as feminists and that the advancement of women's rights can only be gained via more rights to trans women. Thus they present a restriction on trans rights as a restriction of women's rights.

The fact that the most powerful man on the planet can that there are only two genders (yes, I know gender vs sex etc), and in the UK Starmer couldn't even bring himself to say that women don't have penises speaks volumes about this issue. Silence has been akin to violence.

People will not be cowered to state biological fact now.

Yes. And FWR has its own frequent visitor who flutters by every now and then to do precisely this.

Yawn. A lot of trans people are men.

No, LGB issues are entirely separate from TQ+ issues.

This is about recognising reality rather than pandering to individual people's feelings.

And wheeling out the tired old "everything I don't like is just like the Nazis" argument doesn't work anymore. We see through it.

I didn't say it was in the executive order. It's in Trump's past actions and words. You need to look beyond a single executive order, which may or may not be easily defeated in court.

His Tiktok ban certainly didn't stand.

LittleBigHead · 21/01/2025 15:02

It's a pity that this clarity and sex realism comes with other such awful repressive stuff. I don't welcome Trump's regime, although I appreciate the sex realism.

I disagree. I certainly hope you're wrong! I don't think there will be further attacks simply because, whatever you think of Trump, he is not an idealogue. That's why he's not a 'fascist', for example. Trump's attitude is, whatever works for me in the short-term. Don't forget, he was a supporter of the Democrat Party at one time. Right now this EO is popular and he knows it. An easy win with the electorate, popular with men and women across the country.
