Well this will add to the confusion.

Have just heard him use the word gender, even though earlier news reports had said he would say only 2 sexes.

Trump to sign order proclaiming there are only two sexes

Donald Trump's government is set to recognise only two genders, male and female. The move will come as part of a swathe of executive orders the incoming president will sign on his first day back in the White House. It is one of two branded as "common...

Very interested why don’t you put a link here so I can check them out?

Very interested in why you're very interested in crime stats, but not to the extent of checking the freely available MoJ figures?

Sigh. Everyone can find a few things online. Where is the data of violence or harassment by transgender people on a national level? Love to see it. Prison stats. They are what you’d call statistically insignificant. The overall sample of transpeople in prisons is too low to be statistically significant.

which brings me to an interesting question - how many of you all have had a negative experience with a transgender person in your own life? Or even know someone who has? where is this all
coming from? Your own lived experiences or media created moral panic?

This is one of the first trans criminals I heard about.

Karen Jones / Karen Lawson – Trans Crime UK

In fact the whole site is quite useful if you're genuinely interested in trans criminals.

Edited to add excerpt:

Mark / Karen Jones (aka Karen Louise Lawson), a violent male who identifies as a trans woman, was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2003 at age 21, for the attempted rape of a female shop assistant in Manchester. The attack took place in 2002, five days after Lawson was released early on licence after being jailed for manslaughter. At the time, Lawson was living in a female bail hostel, having presented as a trans woman, though was sentenced under the name of Mark John Jones.

According to the Evening Standard Lawson was reported as having “carried out the attack as a cry for help so that she could go back to prison and have the sex change operation she had needed all her life.” The Manchester Evening News reports Lawson’s lawyer having told the court “[he] had committed the crime because he wanted to go back to prison. There, he thought, he would be given treatment for his condition.”

Lawson forced a lemon into the woman’s mouth, punched her in the face and held her by the hair in a back room of the Transformations shop (a shop for men who wish to buy and wear stereotypical female clothing and accessories). The attempted rape was so terrifying the woman told the police she thought she was going to die; the attack only ended when Lawson failed to get an erection.

okay I can google if that’s easier just thought perhaps you had specific ones I mind and wouldn’t be too much work t paste a link but okay I will do my googling 😅 fyi i dont live in The UK, but In a european country where there - interestingly - is much less focus on the issue (less media induced attention) and here they don’t even have stats like that - in fact the trans issue is a total non issue here, guess that’s also why I find it so weird w the high level of attention to the issue in UK and US and am questioning if this is media created and if such by e which media and which political interests benefits from the attention to the issue.

(Relocated some years ago)

You're saying that like it's a good thing @leftorrightnow ?
That the population where you live is uninformed and unaware of women's rights being eroded?

ETA: I'm not saying this to be snarky, but the lack of available information and knowledge shows in your posts

Aha we are getting closer to what seems to be the desire of many on this thread. Call transgender people out. Good old direct harassment made legal.

in your opinion, should transgender people be allowed to exist at all? Be allowed to walk the streets or be your colleague or your children’s teacher or should their very existence simply be made illegal?

In your opinion, what is the definition of a transgender person?

Do we include crossdressers? What about AGPs? What about men who discover their womanly identity when they end up in prison?

um Maybe it’s because people here don’t think that women’s rights ar being eroded by trans rights? Maybe that’s not their (our) experience?

Anyone who wants to self identify as transgender

And you can't see any problems with that? Neither did the Germans, and now look where they are. Also Ireland with Barbie Kardashian.

Confess I don’t know about trans issues in Germany. It’s not where I live. I know for some countries and mainly the UK and the country I live in now, and US and Canada (due to various aspects of my work an personal life)

That's horrifying, that poor woman (the shop assistant, not the attempted rapist, for clarity).

Amazing how little some people feel they need to know before coming in to a group to lecture them on 'educating themselves'.

leftorrightnow · 23/01/2025 11:33

This is so revealing of the trend of right wing media attention on the trans issue. His is one of the first trans criminals you heard of. You literally weren’t ware on the issue until it was brought to your attention by….Mumsnet and the Daily Mail (one bbc article in there too that right).

this is such a small issue but the right wing has an interest in blowing it out of proportion

I think they want to identify as women so want to use women’s facilities

So? They have a facility to use for their sex which accounts for their needs, wants don't apply here.

A small issue?? Wow. A woman thought she was going to die at his hands and to you it is a small issue? What is that woman victim to you? Collateral damage?

Back to another of my questions that @leftorrightnow doesn't seem to have answered:

My acceptable number for women and girls coming to harm as a result of self-identifying "transwomen" - men who id as women - using single sex spaces is zero. What is yours?

Greyskybluesky · 23/01/2025 11:44

leftorrightnow · 23/01/2025 11:24

Because I have lived here for many years and speak the language and gender equality and women’s rights is part of my job and because I’m part of feminist groups here and read the news?

But you've literally just said that the news doesn't report these issues and no stats are kept on these matters in your country.
So "reading the news" isn't going to tell you anything about this, is it?
Are your feminist groups the sort that admit all women?

It's more than a few! As I see other people have provided evidence for.

And even if it was only a few, currently that big, aggressive man would be allowed in women's spaces. Because of people like you. It only takes one to harm a woman. How many women are acceptable collateral damage for you? When do you start giving a shit?
