Trump announces executive order that says legally there are only 2 genders (hmmm did he mis-speak and meant sex?)

Well this will add to the confusion.

Have just heard him use the word gender, even though earlier news reports had said he would say only 2 sexes.

Trump to sign order proclaiming there are only two sexes

Donald Trump's government is set to recognise only two genders, male and female. The move will come as part of a swathe of executive orders the incoming president will sign on his first day back in the White House. It is one of two branded as "common...

There are only two genders in humans. Pretending otherwise, that there can be "male women" or "female men" or "non-binary" people, is part of what started the mess.

Hallelujah
people actually talking sense

LivingInaBuiltSite · 20/01/2025 19:55

I can’t believe there is a reality in which I, not only agree with Trump, but am actively cheering him on.

But here we are, the world has gone mad.

But at least one person in power can state the reality of 2 sexes/genders and make a difference with that belief.

I can only hope it spreads like all US stuff tends to do, and we are all freed from this alphabet nonsense.

Banyon · 20/01/2025 19:58

IMO
There’s legal definitions of both terms … I’m guessing his advisors have not decided full position & terms.

Here’s the advert:

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/VVU7pYq3WHw

The clip of her supporting government funded transgender surgery (apologies if that’s the wrong term) for prison inmates is from her previous run for the presidency in 2020.

IIRC it was an ACLU questionnaire that Harris agreed to, and then went on the record in support of.

Someone was saying (I think it might have been Mark Halperin, who's a very well connected veteran journalist) that when those ads started dropping, Bill Clinton was saying "wtf, we need to get out there and say we don't agree with that and we won't do it". Apparently the Democrats cut some response ads but they tested so badly that they were never run. And Harris was fanatical enough or dumb enough (take your pick) not to want to pull back from her position.

That Trump ad really did cut through in the swing states. And not only there. Nate Silver says he was seeing it constantly on TV in NYC.

The one slight caveat I'd put is that the polling on that ad showed lots of voters saying that Harris was too focused on niche culture wars issues and not enough on the concerns of average Americans. Though it's not a massive caveat if Trump defaults to the common sense position.

Came here to post a thread about this. Who had 'being on the same side as Trump' on their 2025 bingo card..? 😳

Dabs bingo card.

Needless to say C4 news have reported this as an attack on trans gender rights. As always, no concern about women's sex based rights.

(Unfortunately I cant follow this thread properly because something is seriously wrong with the software, pages disappearing, etc.. I think because they are trying to fix the virus scam, but seem to have made it worse. Sorry not to derail thread. There is a thread about this on site stuff.)

Snap. This was the very last thing I expected when I got up with a bit of a heavy heart this morning.

I'm now concerned I might wake up tomorrow with a raging crush on Jacob Rees Mogg or something as anything is obviously now possible!

EasternStandard · 20/01/2025 20:27

Don't worry it's very clear

And a pretty big deal in terms of taking down gender ideology

BloominNora · 20/01/2025 20:33

The first executive order sounds good and when I started reading this thread I was actually a little bit sick in my mouth at the thought of liking something that vile man had done.

But then I read about it in more detail.

That first order comes alongside a second, which from what I can gather, seeks to end a lot of Diversity, Inclusion and Equity programmes in government...given that DEI programmes support equity and inclusion for much higher numbers of women, people with disabilities and people of colour than they do trans identifying people and in the US also include environmental justice programmes, it is going to cause a lot of problems for a lot of people who aren't white, able bodied, males!

On that basis it seems like it might be just as much of a setback for women's rights as it is for the TRAs.

BloominNora · 20/01/2025 20:38

Let's just hope that this is not the first step towards repealing Title VII and Title IX!

People may scoff and say no chance but they did that with Roe V Wade and look how that turned out!

PurpleSparkledPixie · 20/01/2025 20:38

Theeyeballsinthesky · 20/01/2025 18:52

This is apparently the wording of the executive order which makes it very clear

Wow. Even directing government agencies to stop pretending.

Let's hope all the American companies over here start following this directive as we've got into a lot of this mess thanks to them. I'm talking about Costa, Starbucks etc.

Snowypeaks · 20/01/2025 20:38

I suspect the DEI programmes weren't helping women anyway, so perhaps American women have not lost much there.

I'd image that Starbucks would rather burn every single one of their shops to the ground than do that unfortunately.

Snowypeaks · 20/01/2025 20:45

BloominNora
Nobody said that there was no chance of Roe v Wade being overturned. It was acknowledged that legally it was vulnerable. It was also self-evident that the question of the right to choose was very much a live one. In fact feminists kept saying the principle of Roe vs Wade needed to be legislated into federal law, but no government did so.

It would make no sense to repeal Title IX after the EO about the reality of sex.

If it's anything like the UK the rest of the equalities don't actually exist/gets ignored within the DEI framework anymore as it's all about including one group at the detriment of the other 6(?). Hardly hear about the others especially disabilities. I vaguely recall someone in a wheelchair was given an award for championing disabled people but they held the award ceremony in a building which wasn't wheelchair friendly (but I bet the toilets were gender neutral bc "inclusion"). So no, I'm not too worried (yet).

EDIT - Found it

Fair play and massive congratulations to Posie Parker - her astonishingly effective “adult human female” campaign directly influencing a day 1 executive order.

SionnachRuadh · 20/01/2025 19:09

TRAs are not sending their best. They're sending fetishists, blue fringes, political hacks. Sad!

Under my administration, we'll have the most womanly women in American history. They'll be so womanly, you won't even believe it. Many people say so.

TRAs did send their best. That was rather the problem. Description otherwise spot on.

Springtimemakesmehappy · 20/01/2025 20:53

So I'm almost afraid to ask the question as I think I'll be jumped on but I'm curious so need to ask - what happens to those people who are genuinely intersex? I appreciate it is a tiny proportion of the population, but in a country the size of the USA, there will presumably be a significant number of intersex people - do they have to pretend they are not intersex?

Every single human being ever born has been male or female. A few have had conditions - always specific to male or female - which have made them ambiguous at first glance.

In theory, it might be better for those suffering from such conditions to stop being co-opted as human shields by blokes with fetishes.

IwantToRetire · 20/01/2025 20:57

May have already been posted:

Diversity, equity and inclusion and transgender rights

Trump is rolling back protections for transgender people and terminating diversity, equity and inclusion programs within the federal government. Both are major shifts for the federal policy and are in line with Trump’s campaign trail promises. One order would declare that the federal government would recognize only two immutable sexes: male and female. And they’re to be defined based on whether people are born with eggs or sperm, rather than on their chromosomes. Under the order, federal prisons and shelters for migrants and rape victims would be segregated by sex as defined by the order. And federal taxpayer money could not be used to fund “transition services.”

A separate order halts DEI programs, directing the White House to identify and end them within the government.

https://whyy.org/articles/trump-executive-orders-day-1-priorities/

Trump is set to sign a slew of executive orders on Day 1. What are his priorities?

Trump has promised dozens of actions, though it's unclear whether he'll make good on his pledge to do them all on his first day.

I take it you mean people with Differences/Disorders of Sexual Development (DSDs).

They are either male or female, like every other human being.

There is no third sex, and no-one who is both sexes at once.

DEI did nothing for women here unless you had “intersectionality” with another minority group.

BellissimoGecko · 20/01/2025 21:07

This must be the only thing I agree with Trump on. Common-sense orders, indeed.
