“I suggested to the UKWM leaders that I stand down from speaking but they were adamant that I should stand up and be a voice for those women in prison especially after my own experience of being in a women’s prison.

I can't see any comments under the article. Maybe they've turned them off.

Unsurprisingly - I'd love to see what people would say about this little gem.

I have tweeted them the screenshots of them defending him and knowing full well that he is a violent criminal. Yes they obviously turned the comments off.

I feel like everyone was marching for different things.

Yes, most of them marching to pander to men. Idiots or naive most of them..

Rightsraptor · 18/01/2025 16:52

I was in Leeds about 2pm and saw some people, no more than 200 at a guess, and also a whole load of different placards and flags, including 'TW are our sisters' and Palestinian flags.

Why was Baker ever in a women's prison?

Was never in a women's prison. He is a sex offender who tortured and kidnapped a young man and sexually assaulted him too. He also tried to murder another prisoner. He also tried to incite violence against "TERFs" at a pride rally.

The march I went to had loads of people. Speakers talking about abortion, domestic violence, safe streets.
The odd trans banner / chant and a non binary speaker but certainly not the predominant message. And this is fair enough in my opinion as it what was advertised. It was always going to be TWAW.

Rightsraptor says only 200 people there?

Were there any Israeli flags there for our sisters over there?

I would say that was an underestimate but I guess it could be correct.
More Palestine related flags than trans by far I would say.
I didn’t see exactly what was at the front of the march though

I guess they’ve missed the many reports on the state of women’s rights in Gaza.

I was confused about this post. Were they attacked?

Is that good or bad? Not familiar with her.

I was in Leeds - I'm not sure if this MNetter was? And I was a bitt late, passing just after 2pm: I'd heard it mentioned on the radio about noon and the (dippy) young woman they spoke to said it was starting 'about lunch time'. Which is odd, given that we're in the North with the usual disputes about dinner vs lunch/tea vs dinner, and also how daft it was of her not to state a specific time. You always state a time, unless you're a total novice to organising events.

duc748 · 18/01/2025 18:01

Is that the one that went on a TV discussion panel shit-faced, and had to be shut up/calmed down by P Tatchell?

FlowchartRequired · 18/01/2025 18:03

Yes, that's the chap.

Rightsraptor · 18/01/2025 18:06

Yes, that's him @duc748.

@Tigerlily - I'm unsure if your question about were pro-Palestinians there was to me about Leeds or not, but I was passing on a bus and was just trying to note who and what I could see - a motley crew is the answer! Definitely some big Palestine flags.

So basically a march for Palestine and men?

TigerLily40 · 18/01/2025 18:07

In Edinburgh....

I can't read what her sign says after the word woman (other than the definition of woman - there's something in smaller writing).
She is a brave woman to carry that sign in Edinburgh, centre of Scottish #no debate for so long.

Palestine protestors are out every Saturday so probably more of a coincidence/glom on than a deliberate attendance thing?

With his bollock hanging out.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 18/01/2025 18:24

I hadn't realised Baker had been in 29 different prisons during his 30 years. Seems a lot. Is a yearly move usual?
