I've never tried one but I would if I had the opportunity. They were probably sold cold, dressed with vinegar. I can't imagine how hungry you must have been to see them as food.

FeralWoman · 28/05/2025 13:40

Seems that Rick Stein approves of them so I guess they must be okay. Hate seafood but I’ve watched a lot of him over the years.

Sorry, back to Pesutto!

TheSandgroper · 28/05/2025 14:28

@FeralWoman https://essexoystercompany.co.uk/Whelks.html. Also found in Kent, on the other side of the Thames estuary.

I've never got past the look of whelks and, now knowing they're a type of snail, I won't be trying one, unless in extremis.

I tried one once. Supposedly big lovely and fresh. I was underwhelmed. Mussels? Oh yes please. Whelks? Nah. Not a chance.

Codlingmoths · 28/05/2025 09:47

that’s pretty nasty, don’t you think?

Whilst trying to burn a woman as a witch, the immolator catches fire himself. Figuratively speaking. I think I know who is the nasty one in this scenario.

They say that schadenfreude can derive from a sense of aversion to inequity. So big bolleaux, bro leader thinks he can casually destroy a woman’s reputation and career by smearing her with false allegations. Without a second thought or care for her humanity. Then said woman has agency to seek justice for being so wronged by said bro leader. She receives justice; with vindication of her good name and character. Big ‘leader’ is shown up as a less than trustworthy, sly opportunist who ends up with the bill for all the shenanigans he started.

Isn’t it wonderful for once that justice has prevailed, and perpetrator got his just deserts.

BezMills · 29/05/2025 08:31

Does anyone remember that bit where he ummed and ahd through his time as a witness, having things dragged out of him as he smugly ran down the clock and burned $$$$AUD billable hours which he had no intentions to pay for?

And oh look, the bill has arrived.

FeralWoman · 29/05/2025 10:00

@BezMills Yes I remember that. It was so slow and dragged out that it was painful. The judge even told him to stop making speeches didn’t he? The judge said that to one of the men anyway.

I have got confused between the Tickle v Giggle thread and here with Moira Deeming. Please go to https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4779154-tickle-vs-giggle?page=16&reply=144614040 to see the clippings from The Age and the Herald-Sun today.

I had a read of the article you pasted (thank you btw). Perhaps I got a little confused because it was necessarily chopped up, but the writer seemed cross with Moira because she wasn't being kind!

Sorry about the whelk digression.

TheSandgroper · 29/05/2025 11:21

My understanding is that there are a lot of people in the Melbourne establishment ie mainstream media and Liberal Party, who are cross with her for not being kind enough to take the hit to her reputation. C’est la vie for many women. Terf Talk Downunder on YouTube can give an idea. That was Victorian based.

I’m not in Victoria but I reckon the Labor Party HQ can’t believe their luck.

OP posts:
IllustratedDictionaryOfTheDoldrums · 29/05/2025 11:32

It's not just a hit to her reputation, but her career too.
She was supposed to quietly accept a high profile man very publicly laying into her, lying about her, potentially destroying her career, likely financially ruining her.
And why? Because she spoke up about women's rights. He didn't have to say any of those things. He chose to. He didn't have to double down. He chose to.
And now, he's in trouble for his own behaviour but apparently its all her fault?
A man with that little integrity has no place in politics, especially at any high level. He shouldn't be in charge of anything more important than wiping his own arse.

lcakethereforeIam · 29/05/2025 12:22

He shouldn't be in charge of anything more important than wiping his own arse.

Assuming he can find it and distinguish it from his elbow.

SinnerBoy · 29/05/2025 12:29

He made a long, drawn out and concerted effort to besmirch her and ruin her career. It's rebounded on him, schadenfreude is entirely appropriate. The difference is that she's done nowt wrong, he's the opposite.

FeralWoman · 01/06/2025 09:36

Surprise surprise. Pesutto’s house isn’t in his name. It’s in his wife’s name so can’t be used for paying Deeming.

Moira Deeming - thread 4 - where we are thrilled
anyolddinosaur · 01/06/2025 11:52

@Codlingmoths Most people do not try to destroy a colleague and continue to claim they were right to do so even in court. She wants to be paid the cost of defending herself and she should be paid every penny of it. If that means making the man bankrupt it may prove a valuable lesson to others.

TheSandgroper · 02/06/2025 12:01

Excuse the Reddit link. But it will include comments. The process is getting its steps ticked off.

Ow my eyes. The comments are mental

FeralWoman · 02/06/2025 12:51

Those Reddit comments show that they didn’t follow the case at all. Someone commented about how could Deeming do this to a father of three. So, what about doing it to a mother of four? They didn’t mention that. Pesutto should have either shut up in the first place or said sorry once he did open his mouth.

Guess Victorian Liberals won’t be in government any time soon and Victoria will continue its path of becoming the most trans-friendly, anti-women’s rights and pro-harming children state in the country. Unfortunately the rest of the country seems to be taking their lead from Victoria. Not that I like Liberals or Nationals in any form, especially with the MFers In government in my state now. Bunch of greedy dickheads who hate the environment and people.

TheSandgroper · 02/06/2025 13:13

Ooh, I lurve the comments. Such an entertainment.

SinnerBoy · 02/06/2025 15:38

That reddit is a bit special, especially as many of them seem to acknowledge that he defamed her!

TheSandgroper · 07/06/2025 06:03

The Liberal Party of Victoria must have some very, very angry people in it.

(I think the images have loaded 3,2,1 instead of 1,2,3.)

Proscuitto didn't just shoot himself in the foot, he's macine gunned his entire party right in the loafers.

most of them have actively contributed to that! There is an afr weekend article where a number of (anonymous) MPs have let off steam. A lot of them seem to hate half the party.

His crowdfunder closed to new donations a few days ago because they were hopeful of a deal. It raised $212k.
