@FeralWoman $2.3m debt has a way of concentrating the mind. Let me roll my eyes. I wonder what his wife has had to say.

Ffs. Dave Sharma saying members shouldn’t sue each other for defamation. She shouldn’t have been defamed!

He has taken advantage of his platform, that’s for sure.

Just spotted that in The Australian "NSW Liberal Senator Dave Sharma also weighed in and said he was “not particularly comfortable” with public figures and politicians suing one another for defamation, warning such cases could have a “chilling effect” on political debate." Such cases could have a chilling effect on political debate...Oh the irony!

Deeming’s lawyer has sent a letter to Pesutto. They’ll be serving him with a bankruptcy notice on Friday which gives him 21 days to pay the money. If he doesn’t then they’ll be subpoenaing Pesutto’s communications with particular named financial backers to understand how he was able to afford legal action beyond what he can pay.

Hopefully this link works without a paywall:

Deeming chases colleagues, ex-Liberal premiers for Pesutto costs

Moira Deeming’s lawyers say donors who supported John Pesutto in his legal defence may be liable to pay his $2.3 million costs.

Those named include 3 former Victorian premiers. They’re the first three names in the screenshot below. Screenshot is from The Age linked above.

From the second link

"Mr Pesutto declined to comment. "

A touching tale of finding personal growth through adversity right there.

TheSandgroper · 28/05/2025 07:49

@BezMills For any comment from Mr Pesutto, please see my link to Q & A above. He had plenty to say then.

Hehe. Idk maybe I'm enjoying his slow burn humiliation too much. Ah well, that's a me problem

FeralWoman · 28/05/2025 09:23

@BezMills You’re not the only one.

One of the stories I linked discussed how if Pesutto declares bankruptcy he can no longer be an MP and a by-election will be triggered. A by-election would cost the Vic Libs at least $500k for campaigning, and Pesutto only has a 1.7% margin. It’s entirely possible that Libs would lose the seat. Guess the powerbrokers will need to work out which is the better use of money: bailing him out or potentially losing the seat.

Fundraiser is currently at $185k. Only $2.1mil to go.

Everyone is the hero of their own story. So, no.

John Pesutto tried to destroy Moira Deeming, she defended herself. People are pleased for her and I see no issue with that.

Pleased for her is entirely different to sitting there ‘enjoying his slow burn humiliation’. I’m pleased for her re the result but have sympathy for him. Everyone makes mistakes, few people are so publicly shamed with such severe consequences as bankruptcy for errors at work, and it must be very challenging as a stand alone and doubly as it plays out in the public eye. A little grace would go a long way, maybe one day you’d hope to be shown some yourself.

BezMills · 28/05/2025 10:19

"An error at work"

When he was advised of his error, a contrite "sorry" would have done the job.

But here we are. This didn't happen to him. He chose this.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 28/05/2025 10:34

A little grace would go a long way, maybe one day you’d hope to be shown some yourself.

In my opinion to be shown grace, one needs to have acted gracefully in the first instance.

That didn't happen. John Pesutto called Moira Deeming a 'nazi sympathiser' and refused to apologise when pulled up on it. Where is the grace in that?

lcakethereforeIam · 28/05/2025 10:59

I'm as soft as anything. I can usually find an angle that will allow me to feel some sympathy for most people. Persutto though? Not in the slightest. In fact the more I learn about this case decreases the number of fucks I could have given about him. I'm now well into the negative. A child could have told him this case was hopeless. Especially after he wrote the letter apologising to KJK. All Moira Deeming wanted was a similar apology. Instead, he conspired with a bunch of wealthy bros to achieve what exactly? Why was it so important to them to continue down this hopeless path? Uppity women, eh!

So now millions spent and owed. He's humiliated himself and his backers (what did they expect to get out of it?). He may have further to fall. I hope he is declared bankrupt. He's shown such poor judgement he's not fit to run a whelk stand let alone be an MP. Also, if the worst happens he'll be fine. He's not going to end up homeless, or even miss a meal. Perhaps he'll learn a little humility.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/05/2025 11:09

I absolutely don’t give a single shit about Pesutto, like he didn’t care about Moira Deeming, and calling what he did an “error at work” is a tad disingenuous I think?

NotBadConsidering · 28/05/2025 11:20

He absolutely tried to destroy a woman for political gain. Let’s also not forget Angie Jones who was also a victim of his big mouth, because even though he was forced to settle and apologise, the lies about Angie had already gone wild.

He doesn’t even seem genuinely sorry about what he said about them. I will fully enjoy him reaping the consequences of his actions.

And he didn't just make one nasty comment in the heat of the moment. He and his colleagues systematically created a dossier of "evidence" (which was discredited in court), leaked it to the media, went on multiple radio, tv and print interviews to repeat his allegations, 'accidentally' went beyond what was in the dossier to make the allegations even worse twice, and organised other party members into moving for her to be kicked out. And then refused to apologise or walk it back over many months. I still feel sorry for him, I don't like to see anyone suffer and he has a family, but it was thoroughly self-inflicted, with some help from his friends.

If only there was some way he could have prevented any of this from happening 🤔

Maaate · 28/05/2025 12:28

Come on, we've all mistakenly libelled a colleague and mistakenly refused to apologise and accidentally doubled down on the libel..?

FeralWoman · 28/05/2025 12:57

Wait, what’s a whelk stand? What’s a whelk?

FeralWoman · 28/05/2025 13:02

A carnivorous sea snail? Eww!

Is this link about the origin and meaning accurate?

The brewery saying is very common in Australia. Also one about not being able to get a shag in a brothel. Incompetent and completely disorganised.

Why are people eating sea snails? That sounds gross and slimy. I hate all seafood though.
