People famous for making music don’t necessarily make good social thinkers 🤷‍♀️

Theeyeballsinthesky · 25/11/2024 20:10

lol ‘gay men not being asked to give up anything don’t get why women are pissed off’ shocker

Helleofabore · 25/11/2024 20:11

Why is this significant? The LGB Alliance has never said it aimed to have the support of all homosexual or bisexual people.

The company who manage the music had given a license to use it and now the artist is revoking it to my knowledge. Are you accusing them of using it illegally?

InvisibleBuffy · 25/11/2024 20:18

Oh that's a shame. Always sad to see people pull up the ladder behind them.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 25/11/2024 20:22

Well it's a good opportunity to publicise the LGBA's intervention in the Supreme Court case where judges are apparently struggling to decide what a woman is.

Hairyesterdaygonetoday · 25/11/2024 20:24

The trans movement demands extra privileges for men (eg access to women’s spaces) and isn’t particularly harmful to men. The boundaries it pushes are women’s, and a lot of men like seeing women put down. So they have nothing to lose by toeing the genderist line.

"The LGB Alliance has never said it aimed to have the support of all homosexual or bisexual people."

Yes that's well established. Perhaps then they shouldn't be using music that belongs to the LGBT community?

Once it’s sold commercially, music doesn’t really ‘belong’ to any community

BlackForestCake · 25/11/2024 20:34

Jimmy Somerville left Bronski Beat after their first album, and the other two are dead, so there is no possible way Bronski Beat can "call out" or "disapprove" of anything.

Well, precisely.

It's amazing how many artistes, with the political instincts of the average starfish, see fit to opine all over SM. I have no idea why I should pay them any more attention than I pay to, oh, dunno, Paul on the village hall committee or Zoe in the local shop.

that sort of kills the story doesn’t it!

So you are not accusing them of illegally using it? Good.

Are you even part of the ‘community’ that you are stating the song ‘belongs’ to?

Would you like to tell us why you are weaponising this?

Now, look here everyone. Chris was all excited to come here and post this perfect 'gotcha' to own the terfs and I think that it is very poor form to dismiss it with things like facts and reality. Can't we at least pretend to be mortally wounded for a few seconds just to make Chris feel happy?

😉

I have washing up to do but I'll try to fit it in. <sigh>

Gareth Roberts's comment was funny:

For those not on X:

"I think it’s a good day to remember Marc Almond on Jimmy Somerville - ‘He thinks I should do more for the gay community. I’m going to. I’m going to strangle him’."

Helleofabore · 25/11/2024 20:49

Well, I must ‘own’ some of that song because I purchased a copy to listen as I please.

It really is a bit of a nonsense claim by the OP all round.

Millions of people have purchased the song that are not part of the ‘community’ AND the LGB Alliance, if I have read it correctly, bought a license to use it for the purpose that they used it for.

What, commercially produced music that literally belongs to anyone who bought it? What are you on?

Little anecdote from James Dreyfus

https://x.com/DreyfusJames/status/1860718652242141545
Backstage at the Equality Show back in ‘97 at the Albert Hall.

Young gay man nervously says to JS, “Hi Jimmy. I just wanted to let you know how much your music meant to me growing up gay..”

JS cuts him off with, “Fuck off. Don’t come to me with your baggage. I’m not your fuckin’ therapist!”, in front of everybody. Then he laughed.

Wow! He mocked a young fan? That is rather enlightening.

I see you've banished the QIA++ crowd from the community. Have they transgressed in some way?

How delightfully charming.

lol ‘gay men not being asked to give up anything don’t get why women are pissed off’ shocker

This in spades. I am so disappointed with my male gay friends. Absolutely no awareness at all of how issues affect women; their priviledge oozes out. Damaged our friendship for sure.

Ketzele · 25/11/2024 22:06

I am a veteran lesbian. I've only met JS once, when I travelled by coach with him to Pride 84, the famous one led by the NUM and LGSM. I was on the board of Stonewall for many years. I support the LGA.

I'm kind of mystified at the concept that anyone 'owns' Bronski Beat. They were a great band but I don't see that Jimmy S's endorsement is any more valuable than yours or mine. Time to accept that there is no homogenous LGBetc community speaking with a united voice.
