"The LGB Alliance has never said it aimed to have the support of all homosexual or bisexual people."

Yes that's well established. Perhaps then they shouldn't be using music that belongs to the LGBT community?

Is the rank hypocrisy that gets me.

These men are all transwomen are women, just that penetrate. Leaping up and down like Duracell bunnies on acid, when they all align to appropriate womanhood and invade our spaces, but suddenly morph right back into being gay men, the minute they want to talk about homosexuality and defend their gay friends.

Defending homosexuality whilst simultaneously claiming it doesn't exist.

Utter tossery.

As soon as I saw the headline I knew, magically, who had posted it. Feminine intuition or summat.

OvaHere · 26/11/2024 12:37

Rather ironic to be calling the LGBA fake in the defence of a movement that has fakery at it's core.

Oh, are boundaries allowed? In that case, perhaps TW shouldn’t be using stuff/places that belong to the female community.

Love to know which music belongs to the straight community that gay people are to be excluded from using….

Another one who knew who the OP was going to be as soon as I read the title…

JS was, whether you all want to appreciate it or not, a groundbreaking lgbt artist and he's now a gay man is his 60s who has gone above and beyond for the community. It's also his voice on the song so if anyone gets to have a say, he does!

He can have his say but it’s meaningless and he can’t do anything about it.

Pluvia · 26/11/2024 13:10

Anyone know if the OP is LGB or trans? Can't remember, don't post here much any more.

TWETMIRF · 26/11/2024 13:12

Your mates at Stonewall don't have the support of all homosexual or bisexual people either so they must never use anything made by anyone who is L, G or B. Fair's fair after all

Not sure but he hates women and LGB people if that helps

Oh @maltravers 🙄
You have completely missed the point.

MEN are allowed to have boundaries.
WOMEN were born to be doormats.

maltravers · 26/11/2024 13:26

Oh yeah, men get their own stuff and our stuff too. I forgot!

Country and Western? Nickelback?

People famous for making music don’t necessarily make good social thinkers 🤷‍♀️

This. Often we overlook the most obvious things 😬

SirChenjins · 26/11/2024 13:57

As a GC woman (and a real female one at that) who supports the work of the LGBA I've just played Small Town Boy at full volume whilst extending a single finger in salute to JS.

If Chris wants to try and tell gay men* they can’t listen to Judy Garland, Cher or Kylie ever again I am off to buy a shit ton of popcorn.

*Obvs not all gay men love Cher etc but I spent enough time at G A Y at the Astoria back in the day to know there are plenty who will fight for their right to keep at least one of the above 3 and Madonna, Britney & Donna Summer on their playlists!

Gareth Roberts's comment was funny:

For those not on X:

"I think it’s a good day to remember Marc Almond on Jimmy Somerville - ‘He thinks I should do more for the gay community. I’m going to. I’m going to strangle him’."

Now that IS funny! 😂

I loved Jimmy back in the early 80s. He was some man to dance. He'd be bopping away in the Bell , Kings Cross all night. Boy George would be still though , posing in his geisha girl outfit. A couple of years later I worked the bar at Perverts for the Pits in Stoke Newington. Bronski Beat and Ben Zephaniah. Perhaps @Ketzele was there? A Notts miner spoke and got quite emotional.
So in a nutshell : cop the fuck on Jimmy. As Graham Greene once said ' it's a writer's job to speak for the victims - and the victims are always changing'

Olderbadger1 · 27/11/2024 01:01

There was a TV documentary about the actual people behind the story at one time but I'm not sure if it's still available... if I find it I'll post it here. Some background info in this article: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-30728604 All quite moving actually!

People who inspired Pride tell their story

The people from the lesbian and gay community who inspired the acclaimed film Pride talk about their real-life experience of supporting the striking miners in the 1980s.

Bit of a derail, possibly, but I am actually deeply fed up with celebs espousing on stuff rather than just doing their jobs. Several friends are raving about how funny, light-hearted and almost nostalgic The Rivals is, especially if you read it as a teen… but I just cannot bring myself to watch it because DT is in it and he makes my blood boil now. Such a talented actor and I’ve loved some of the recent non Dr Who stuff he’s done. I just enjoy a film/show/music track all the more the less I know about the real lives and opinions of the actors, singers, writers.

Can they all just go back to doing their jobs? Producing art and promoting it without the side helping of polemic?

SinnerBoy · 27/11/2024 08:20

Emily Atack is also militant TWAW.

TheKneesOfTheBees · 27/11/2024 08:48

I remember The Bell @Abhannmor - especially the Sunday afternoon / evening tea dances, also used to see JS at the L&G (not even any B in those days) Centre in Farringdon. Despite the greater prejudice from the outside world in many ways it was a great time to be a lesbian!
