Trans activists gatecrash women's rights rally as they protest speech by Kellie-Jay Keen at 'Let Women Speak' event in the home of suffragette Emily Davison

Trans activists gatecrashed a women's rights rally held in the hometown of suffragette Emily Davison today.

Around 70 women gathered in Carlisle Park, Morpeth, Northumberland, this afternoon for a Let Women Speak (LWS) event, spearheaded by women's rights campaigner Kellie-Jay Keen, aka Posie Parker.

But they were met by counter demonstrators shouting through megaphones, who wore masks, waved flags and held placards which read: 'Transwomen are women'.

Organiser of LWS, Posie Parker, took the microphone and said: 'Some women are coming to speak using some words, and some spoiled brats are trying to stop us.

'We just want to speak about our rights. We want to speak about our spaces, our sports, our children, our safety.

Those people over there are from the elites and are trying to shut us up.

'Most of us are from relatively normal families who have to pay a mortgage, pay bills.

'They haven't sent us to a nice university to mess around with our fees and our grants and to come and harass middle-aged women.'

During the speeches, the counter protestors shouted: 'You're not radical, you're just d*heads.'

They blew whistles in an attempt to drown out the gathering and also shouted 'get off the stage' and 'get some new material'.

As Ms Parker took the microphone, she was branded a 'fascist' by the counter group.

A handful of women spoke about issues including schools, women's rights and the concept of being non-binary.

This is only bits from an article at https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13955045/trans-gatecrash-womens-rally-home-suffragette-emily-davison.html

I cant find anything else about this, but its quite late and I'm a bit tired so may have missed something.

Looks like the police weren't that well prepared, or had thought not many would turn up.

A real shame, as (no insult to Morpeth) going to smaller places is a positive action by LWS. Rather than assuming everybody can get to the nearest big city.

Hope everyone is okay.

'I feel no obligation to tolerate a group [of LGB people] ... I feel obliged to shut them fucking down.'

This is blatant hate speech.

SinnerBoy · 17/10/2024 11:18

Apart from anything else, they can't see that LGB people fought for their rights (which also partly applies to trans, they engendered an atmosphere of tolerance) and they want to attack them for it. They are falsely writing the LGB off, as if they did nothing.

Cognitive dissonance much?

Statements like that are always written in a particular kind of language that sounds like it comes from an in-house style guide - it’s so strange, there’s no individuality or personality in it.

And there’s always the juxtaposition of the writer going on about how they’re absolutely filled with ‘love’ and ‘joy’ but at the same time they are happy to describe how they deeply hate and despise and will physically attack people who disagree with them.

It’s very ‘Only the righteous can be saved so repent ye, damned sinners! Lest ye be struck down from on high’, at times.

And now we’ve got hyperbolic calls for escalation of criminal, antisocial behaviour. If they weren’t middle-class white kids they wouldn’t get away with provocative language and actions like this.

There’s a word to describe this type of rigid, closed group thinking and language but I don’t know if it’s allowed here today….

Does ‘Let Women Speak’ speak for all women?

Last weekend saw a rally organised by the group ‘Let Women Speak’ in Carlisle Park, Morpeth. Driving past you could see a number of mainly women wearing what looked like the suffragette colours of green, purple, and white. You could also note a fairly large counter-demonstration. What was this all about? What was the demonstration and what was the counter-demo?

.....

Conclusion

Does ‘Let Women Speak’ speak for all women?

On the face of it LWS is trying to be a voice for women, but it became clear from the group’s website and the speeches that this is only in a narrow and restrictive way. Trans women are clearly not included, nor are any women with more open and liberal views.

I therefore have to come to the conclusion that LWS does not speak for, or even attempt to speak for all women.

A more accepting, tolerant, and kind position would seem to be a better way for our society to work.

How ummm... interesting that in this well balanced and thought provoking opinion hit piece /s that Yvonne Wancke only managed to speak to the "counter-demonstration" some of whom were left feeling "targeted, and even bullied" by umm... checks article "some sharing of views between some in LWS and counter-protestors"

SinnerBoy · 21/10/2024 04:36

Trans women are clearly not included

There's a reason for that.

SD1978 · 21/10/2024 05:20

I'm interested in knowing how many trans right events are gatecrashed, attacked, and have death threats made by 'TERFS'......and yet women wanting to protect womens spaces are the issue and are reported to the police......

SinnerBoy · 21/10/2024 05:28

As far as I'm aware, it's zero.

Members of Northumbria IWW were proud to join the organisers of the counterprotest against the transphobic LWS organisation in Morpeth on 13 October. These groups have proven links with the far right. As workers, trade unionists and feminists, we’re proud to combat their attempts to normalise hatred.

Hmm. Proven? Or often and dishonestly repeated?

We were glad that on this trip to the North East, they managed to avoid publicly quoting Mein Kampf, but we’d want to set the bar a little higher than that.

Not that ridiculous old canard again!

We’re extremely grateful to the varied crowd, especially to the other locals and the families who stood with us, none of whom deserved the abuse and bullying they later faced online by LWS members.

Well, Yvonne, what do you mean, precisely, by online abuse and bullying? Criticism of claims that "TWAW"? Or the actual online abuse and threats from the trans zealots? Compare and contrast, assess honestly and dispassionately and see if you still think that LWS are the bad guys.

Maybe you could speak to some of them, in order to gain a more balanced understanding?

I searched Yvonne Wancke last night and not alot of historicl info on them.

'Open and liberal views', you mean so open your brain fell out?

YourAmplePlumPoster · 21/10/2024 09:38

I'm betting there were a lot of very loud male voices shouting down the women.

That phrase is much older than that: 1930s at least.

Awful optics for the TRA movement. Bullying and shouting down women and not allowing them their words. Still, I guess that’s what the whole TRA movement boils down to really. At least the public can see the TRA fury at women having a voice. And the public don’t approve. Sunlight.

LWS doesn't speak for any women. The women speak for themselves.

This is something they'll never get.

They're a bit like Amos Starkadder in Cold Comfort Farm. "Ye're all damned!"

Yes, exactly. It's a platform. Listeners can agree with the speakers, disagree, think "meh, whatever", make their own mind up about what they hear. Imagine that!

Same applies to KJK. Agree with her, disagree, appreciate some of what she says, dislike the rest. Up to you.

The "protestors" will never get it.

But they get all the gushing sycophants, reporting dishonestly and far more attention, unfortunately.

Let's not mince words here.

Kellie-Jay Keen / Posie Parker is calling for landlords and employers to be able to discriminate against people on the basis of a protected characteristic.

She is saying landlords should be able to refuse housing on the basis of trans-status.

She is saying that employers should be able to refuse employment on the basis of trans-status.

It is abhorrent, and anyone attending her speeches to support her should know what exactly they are supporting.

For anyone that doesn't think that statements like these should be protested against, well I guess that says a lot about them.

As far as I am aware being trans is not a protected characteristic

lcakethereforeIam · 21/10/2024 11:46

Homonyms, my dear @Sinnerboy. Well that, a childish sense of humour and a, possibly, sketchy grasp of pronunciation.

"It is abhorrent, and anyone attending her speeches to support her should know what exactly they are supporting.
For anyone that doesn't think that statements like these should be protested against, well I guess that says a lot about them."

Perfect example of "they will never get it".
The gatherings are not "her speeches". The attendees want to hear women speak and maybe speak themselves. About anything that affects their lives.

Yes, I guess it says a lot about me that I don't want women's speech shut down.

Myalternate · 21/10/2024 12:05

Let’s not mince words here.

KJK is wrong to suggest LL’s or employers should restrict opportunities to trans identifying people. She’s not demanding they do. She’s suggesting it. They can make their own minds up. Personally, I would employ someone that shows commitment to the role they’re employed to do and if there is any hint they might be militant towards other employees, I’d find a legal way to dispense with their services.

I have rights too.

If anyone makes a statement about disrupting a peaceful gathering of women and suggesting violence towards those gatherings of people discussing their rights being eroded, then they should be protested against.
It says so much more about people that not only encourage such violence and behaviour from the Terror inciting activists their morals are beneath contempt.
