Trans activists gatecrash women's rights rally as they protest speech by Kellie-Jay Keen at 'Let Women Speak' event in the home of suffragette Emily Davison

Trans activists gatecrashed a women's rights rally held in the hometown of suffragette Emily Davison today.

Around 70 women gathered in Carlisle Park, Morpeth, Northumberland, this afternoon for a Let Women Speak (LWS) event, spearheaded by women's rights campaigner Kellie-Jay Keen, aka Posie Parker.

But they were met by counter demonstrators shouting through megaphones, who wore masks, waved flags and held placards which read: 'Transwomen are women'.

Organiser of LWS, Posie Parker, took the microphone and said: 'Some women are coming to speak using some words, and some spoiled brats are trying to stop us.

'We just want to speak about our rights. We want to speak about our spaces, our sports, our children, our safety.

Those people over there are from the elites and are trying to shut us up.

'Most of us are from relatively normal families who have to pay a mortgage, pay bills.

'They haven't sent us to a nice university to mess around with our fees and our grants and to come and harass middle-aged women.'

During the speeches, the counter protestors shouted: 'You're not radical, you're just d*heads.'

They blew whistles in an attempt to drown out the gathering and also shouted 'get off the stage' and 'get some new material'.

As Ms Parker took the microphone, she was branded a 'fascist' by the counter group.

A handful of women spoke about issues including schools, women's rights and the concept of being non-binary.

This is only bits from an article at https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13955045/trans-gatecrash-womens-rally-home-suffragette-emily-davison.html

I cant find anything else about this, but its quite late and I'm a bit tired so may have missed something.

Looks like the police weren't that well prepared, or had thought not many would turn up.

A real shame, as (no insult to Morpeth) going to smaller places is a positive action by LWS. Rather than assuming everybody can get to the nearest big city.

Hope everyone is okay.

Let's not mince words here.

Kellie-Jay Keen / Posie Parker is calling for landlords and employers to be able to discriminate against people on the basis of a protected characteristic.

She is saying landlords should be able to refuse housing on the basis of trans-status.

She is saying that employers should be able to refuse employment on the basis of trans-status.

It is abhorrent, and anyone attending her speeches to support her should know what exactly they are supporting.

For anyone that doesn't think that statements like these should be protested against, well I guess that says a lot about them.

Let's not mince words here: Oh the irony of someone who proudly holds sexist, homophobic genderist beliefs complaining about prejudice in others.

As Floisme says, I don't watch KJK's stuff, for broadly the same reasons she gives. I still think women should be allowed to state their opinions and talk about their lives without people like you losing their shit.

AlisonDonut · 14/10/2024 12:04

Now that all the other stuff has been debunked, is this the last remaining bad thing?

You don't think this is enough?

This should be enough, in and of itself for any right-minded person to think, ahhh, this is maybe not the sort of person I want to get behind.

"calling for landlords and employers to be able to discriminate against people on the basis of a protected characteristic"

Of course she isn't - she's calling for trans status to no longer be a protected characteristic. That's rather different.

When people are hiring someone or looking to rent out a property, they discriminate all the time. Usually you hire the person you think is going to be the best fit/most reliable.

There was a thread on here not long ago where the OP was asking whether her daughter's non binary gender identity is likely to be the reason she can't get a job, and most people answered in the affirmative.

Expecting people to be shocked by Kellie-Jay Keen's opinion but accepting of the trans activists' behaviour is a rather odd position to take.

Haha, I see you would rather stick with mincing words.

Is trans status a protected characteristic in the UK or not?

Is she calling for employers and landlords to be allowed to discriminate on this basis, or not?

The answer is yes to both of the above.

So the line is now: "Discrimination on the basis of a protected characteristic is already happening, we might as well just all get on with it, and why shouldn't we, after all?"

So if I, as a lesbian, wanted to rent a flat and the landlord looked at me, knew nothing else about me whatsoever and thought 'O she looks like a lesbian, and we all know they are feckless and irresponsible, I'm not going to rent to her'

Would that be acceptable?

Womanofcustard · 14/10/2024 13:02

So employers should not be able to discriminate against a ‘trans’ status? Does that include Rape Crisis Centres??

MoveToParis · 14/10/2024 13:03

ThatOpenSwan · 14/10/2024 07:47

Counter protesting isn't exactly gatecrashing.

Feminism: Let Women Speak
Progressive Protest: No, make them shut the fuck up!

If the landlord says, "Sorry, the flat has now been let to someone else", what are you actually going to do about it?

There were lots of people in that other thread saying that a CV with they/them pronouns on it would go straight in the bin. Discrimination? Yes, probably. Consequences? None. If anything some people would consider it a sensible move because they're more likely to get away with not hiring someone in the first place than hiring the person and risking finding themselves on the wrong side of a discrimination claim on any given day over something like misgendering or who is using which toilets.

The "Darlington five" case and others like it show that you can't win. Refuse to let a trans woman employee use the women's changing rooms and find yourself in the employment tribunal. Fail to provide single sex changing facilities for your female staff and find yourself...in the employment tribunal. It's easier not to hire people who are high risk for causing those kind of problems in the first place.

Did you look at the video?

Posie Parker/ Kellie Jay Keen is promoting a blanket policy for any employer and any landlord being able to discriminate, simply on the basis of trans-status.

It's like going back to the 1950s for crying out loud.

eatfigs · 14/10/2024 13:07

It depends. Would employers be discriminating because of "gender reassignment" characteristic, or because they don't want to deal with the hassle of pronoun demands, using the wrong sex bathroom, etc.

The answer is yes to both of the above.

The state of affairs she is arguing for is not "landlords discriminating on the basis of a protected characteristic".

It is "landlords discriminating on the basis of something that used to be, but no longer is, a protected characteristic".

Claiming she is arguing for the former is misrepresenting her.

I'm not sure whether you believe yourself or not, or if this is merely an entertaining exercise for you in attempting to hoodwink others.

Here is some information about the presently protected characteristic of gender reassignment / trans status.

Yes, I'm fully aware gender reassignment is a protected characteristic.
Some people believe it shouldn't be.

If you disagree with that, you should engage with that argument - should gender reassignment be a protected characteristic? Rather than making the bad-faith accusation that they want to allow discrimination based on protected characteristics.

O dear, you seem to be mistaking facts for bad faith accusations.

I'm sorry your grasp of logic is so tenuous that you fail to see this.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 14/10/2024 13:23

If you're a small employer and you have one set of male toilets and changing rooms and one set of female toilets and changing rooms, should you be able to discriminate against a trans applicant on the basis that you can't accommodate their wish to use single sex spaces for the opposite sex in accordance with what they believe is their gender and also accommodate the needs of your existing staff for single sex spaces?

O dear, you seem to be mistaking facts for bad faith accusations.

I'm sorry your grasp of logic is so tenuous that you fail to see this.

Let me try to make the logic a bit clearer for you:

The current state of the law in the UK:

  1. Gender reassignment is a protected characteristic;
  2. Landlords are prohibited from discriminating on the basis of protected characteristics;
  3. Therefore, landlords cannot discriminate on the basis of gender reassignment.

A possible future state of the law in the UK:

  1. Gender reassignment is no longer a protected characteristic;
  2. Landlords are prohibited from discriminating on the basis of protected characteristics;
  3. Therefore, landlords can discriminate on the basis of gender reassignment.

People who are arguing for the latter are not arguing for landlords to be able to discriminate on the basis of protected characteristics - this would still be illegal.
However, the set of protected characteristics would have changed, and therefore some behaviours which are illegal today would no longer be illegal.

Hope that helps.

Ooooh, I see! Why didn't you say.

You are talking about a future world Posie Parker / Kellie Jay Keen who is talking about a future world Gender Critical utopia where everyone can freely discriminate against future world trans people.

How silly of me not to realise we were talking about a possible future world Gender Critical utopia rather than the real world as it is now!!!

No, we're talking about a future world where trans people don't have extra special rights that no one else has on the basis of a characteristic that only they believe in and have subjectively decided that they have.

Namechangeforadhd · 14/10/2024 13:42

Kjk isn't particularly my cup of tea, but I couldn't care less about a woman not wanting to protect males, however said males identify or dress.
And all other things being equal, if I had a choice between a female employee or tenant, and a trans-identifying-male employee or tenant, I'd choose the female. Males can fight their own battles and it's not up to me to help them. Indeed, they've managed to win most of them for millenia, so I'm sure they can carry on looking after themselves without my help.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 14/10/2024 13:47

I presume we're seeing another episode of KJK derangement syndrome where her living rent free in some people's heads results in endless witterings about all aspects of KJK's words, thoughts and feelings. Thus derailing the focus of a thread from the endless supply of thugs, bullies, misogynists and homophobes who make it their life's work to threaten and intimidate women into silence into interminable comments on KJK. 🙄

Plus ca change.

We are talking about the real world.....that's the point. Not a fantasy world were an individual gets to prioritise their own feelings and 'identities' at the expense of others with protected characteristics ( namely women and girls). Characteristics which are real, actual, based in material reality and recognised the world over.

BezMills · 14/10/2024 14:02

I would say "start a thread about this huge derail" but we're overdue a KJK IS HORRID thread anyway so just post this stuff on there when it inevitably appears.

This thread is about masked threatening misogynists who will not LET WOMEN SPEAK
