You would think that the potential people in charge of a country/region/area/city/town would actually pay attention to 'who is protesting what and why' outside their parliament building. If they were serious about being in charge of course.

Filomene · 14/10/2024 09:15

@Helleofabore "I wonder if the freedom group even knew him? He knew of them."

I think Sowell knows the leader of the other group. Matthew Trihey who leads them has had previous links with a similar organisation but now says he doesn't. https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2024/mar/26/victoria-anti-trans-rally-parliament-neo-nazi-allegations-matthew-trihey-organiser-michelle-uriarau-ntwnfb. I have bodycam footage of the LWS event and have Trihey on camera leaving with his group of followers and the PA system mentioned in this article from earlier this year.

Self-described ‘nationalist’ speaks at anti-trans rights rally on Victoria parliament steps

Matthew Trihey, former member of the Lads Society, opened the #WomenWillSpeak event in Melbourne on Saturday

Yup this is where 'queering the politics' has brought Victoria specifically and taking Australia in general since sex is now written out of the sex discrimination act.

Thanks fllomene. I had forgotten that man.

Just a quick intervention to thank those who watched the session earlier & provided information on what's happened & what's been said etc. It's a breath of fresh air for the discussion on a thread about the defamation trial to stick to that without meandering into irrelevant misrepresentation of some details.

Long may it continue 🤞

Filomene · 14/10/2024 09:27

I was on X posting in between whatever I had to do and listening to it on fast forward [remember that term?]. Here is a mini-thread I did today if anyone's interested. https://x.com/ish_chel/status/1845629749961560096

I missed this, but did the judge really say after the moira deeming video:

“His Honor: Why is it bad to call the creators of the school curriculum pedo apologists if it is true?”

https://x.com/daram14/status/1845620285275623853?s=46

Blimey. This judge might well be very well suited for defamation cases. He seems to get right to the nub of the issue.

So …. Those final submissions are going to be interesting in how Pesutto’s team work this through.

We hear about the dangers of echo chambers on the internet, but it seems Pesutto and his ilk are trying to enforce them in real life too - which is worrying when they are politicians. How can you lead a country when you refuse to listen to critical voices or those that disagree with you? When you think speaking to them or being seen near them is aligning yourself to their whole ethos?

The current UK Labour Party seem to have similar dangerous ideas.

Boiledbeetle · 14/10/2024 09:44

Thank you all for the updates. I appreciate that obviously those watching here are going to be more on Moira's side so I'm mindful of bias but from the sounds of it all the other sides video did was piss off the judge, and make the judge think they are a bunch of absolute idiots.

I'm beginning to wish I'd watched it just so I could see how exasperated the judge must have looked.

Helleofabore · 14/10/2024 09:47

Hearing the judge’s incredulity about that Gariepy interview was very good BB. And then again after the ‘13 minutes’ of sewell’s interview.

Datun · 14/10/2024 09:57

Thoroughly enjoying today's updates.

I'm loving that Pesutto's side decided to bin all their remaining videos, showing that the ones they did show were absolutely the best they had to support their argument.

It really is the mirror of umpteen posts on here. Tenuous, made up bollocks shoehorned into an opinion that has no basis in reality.

Givren that the judge doesn't seem particularly au fait with any of the issues, it would appear that his reaction is entirely genuine and not coming from any place of bias.

The bias being, of course, all on the other side.

Helleofabore · 14/10/2024 05:45

Thanks again Feral. I just lost the feed.

I wonder what the Judge is privately thinking. His incredulity was clear today that the dossier evidence was really rather full of only bad faith interpretations that don't seem to represent an accurate representation of the positions of various people.

That Gariepy interview and the bloke interviewing Sewell also highlighted what numerous posters have been saying since that Melbourne rally.

Sorry I was typing this while half asleep.

The Gariepy interview and the Sewell interview have highlighted what numerous posters have been saying since the Melbourne rally that KJK was not saying anything in the Gariepy interview that was not the usual messages and that Sewell was certainly not there to support the LWS rally.

Datun · 14/10/2024 10:13

I hope the judge also realises that this is just the latest in a long, never-ending line of men trying to shut women down over this issue. And not just political in fighting and a personal one off thing by pesutto. He's just the latest.

Fabulous comment from the judge. And exactly what we have been saying.

This.

Helleofabore · 14/10/2024 10:39

Am I right in thinking that Pesutto’s side binned the videos where they were attempting to establish soldiers of Christ as far right? Because of the titles that Pesutto’s team said were anti-Semitic and anti-Islamic?

And the judge had asked if the content was simply criticisms of theology from a Christian point of view ?

So then that then removes the soldiers of Christ interviews from ‘the dossier’. Because that was all Pesutto’s team could find to back up their dossier ?

Fuck. Pesutto’s team has been shown to be numpties for following that Wikipedia entry without checking the details. If I remember from going through that dossier when it came out, the ‘far right’ accusations about SoC was from a media article from a very clearly biased writer who was searching for any negative connection and flinging as much shite as possible.

Pleased to see this. It is of course what safeguarding's based on - responsible people feeling able to identify paedophiles / predatory behaviour in order to stop it and safeguard children. Well done the judge.

What a world we're in where some argue that this "shouldn't be said".

Snowypeaks · 14/10/2024 10:47

This lack of proper research is not surprising for politicians living in an echo chamber. For lawyers, it's astonishing.

Edited for grammar.

Filomene · 14/10/2024 10:48

I've wondered who in the world actually prepared Pesutto's case for him. Interns?

Helleofabore · 14/10/2024 11:11

"This lack of proper research is not surprising for politicians living in an echo chamber."

Considering that the dossier was the responsibility of Rodrigo Pintos-Lopez, a very much supposedly experienced adult. He is also a lawyer, with a masters from Harvard according to the media around his appointment by Pesutto. Not sure how much Nick Johnston's team from comms helped. I don't consider their consultancy, Acumen, will look all that expert at the moment. I hope that they have much better examples of their work.

This dossier was a piece of shite from the very start. And Pintos-Lopez skited about how it only took 20 minutes to pull together, although he later even said '10 minutes'. And Pesutto thought that this was significant research.....

Snowypeaks · 14/10/2024 11:20

Wow. Shocking.

The arrogance is off the scale, isn't it.

We'll show this bloody woman not to mess with us, it'll only take us a second.

I can't help thinking that KJK's appearance is almost guaranteed to get men to underestimate her, too. The bleached blonde hair, the Barbie sunglasses, the jumpsuits.

Women have often been told they need to dress 'business like', in order to be taken seriously.

I can't tell you how much I love that she uses that very bit of sexism to get her opponents into a hate frenzy on the one hand, and ensures miscalculation of such scale on the other, it's almost funny.

NotBadConsidering · 14/10/2024 11:50

We'll show this bloody woman not to mess with us, it'll only take us a second.

This is it. They thought they could smear her reputation, kick her out, dust their hands off, and move on to winning the election. The arrogance is off the charts, and I hope they sink into political oblivion after this.
