Gosh. I remember this person from a few years ago when Starbucks was doing its Mermaid biscuits campaign. A local councillor (?) raised her concerns about safeguarding at Mermaids and he had a real go at her.

Here is Stephen Ireland setting up a group to oust the Surrey PCC, Lisa Townsend.

Look at the confidence of that convicted paedophile trying to take on a woman standing up for safeguarding children and women.

He knows he's protected. He knows nobody will challenge him. He could have continued for many more years with all the protection offered by the local authority, politicians, police and even schools in Surrey.

SinnerBoy · 13/03/2025 22:47

Pride Surrey utterly condemns Ireland, eh?

If Keir Starmer is bothered about NGOs obstructing effective government, he could start by having a close look at all Pride groups for a start. I see no reason at all why these kind of groupings should get any State subsidy or influence on policy.

Just how lazy, stupid or corrupt must we be to have permitted these perverts to step into positions of authority?

I heard somebody the other day speculating that when the archaeologists come to pick over the modern west, they'll conclude that from the sixties onwards we all chose to abandon society and dedicate ourselves to a sex cult instead.

I do wonder. Easter Island was probably full of ordinary families rolling their eyes at the giant-head-makers, but there's only one group gets remembered these days.

Does anyone know what happened to trigger this investigation into Ireland and Sutton? Was it the victim going to the police? The number and the nature of charges these two attracted is quite unusual from my understanding.

I don't know. The rape offence took place only last April so the victim is still only 13 or so.
I assume the other offences relating to indecent images were uncovered when the police began to investigate.
They were both acquitted on the conspiracy to kidnap a child charge, the jury presumably believing their revolting 'it was just a fantasy' defence.

What the FUCK?

ArabellaScott · 14/03/2025 16:12

So this will trigger an investigation into Surrey Police, yes?

ArabellaScott · 14/03/2025 16:14

they took a suspected child sex offender into a school

Am I naive to be absolutely shocked and scunnered at this?!

FWR needs to be on Police Advisory Groups and Police Misconduct Panels in every police force or service.

Maybe we need coaching, application advice and access to funds for people who need coverage for carer responsibilities but it has to happen.

RantyMcRanterton · 14/03/2025 16:18

I am speechless, Arabella.

They took a suspected child sex offender into a school. It is beyond belief, a sick joke.

Who will investigate, how does it get triggered?

In a decent system there would be self-referral to Professional Standards. There would also be pressure from Police and Crime Commissioners working with a Police/Independent Advisory Group. The latter should be a group of residents from diverse community backgrounds.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 14/03/2025 16:29

I’m gobsmacked this isn’t a bigger story. There seems to be a concerted effort not to cover it

the police took a man suspected of child abuse into a school

into.a.school

and no one appears to think there is a story worthy of coverage????

BBC keeping it quite low key.

Maybe they can't find a drag queen to comment.

ArabellaScott · 14/03/2025 16:35

The police statement says that the victim came forward to report. Brave kid. Wishing him all the best.

I don't know, but maybe the PCC does.

If anyone lives in Surrey, please write to Lisa. Consider joining the IAG.

https://www.surrey-pcc.gov.uk/office-of-the-commissioner/representation/

Representing the communities we serve is central to your Commissioner’s role and responsibilities in Surrey. Our office works to make sure that there are opportunities for every person to influence policing in the county.

Representation – Surrey Police
Public bodies with 150 or more employees are required to publish data on their workforce and demonstrate that they consider how their activities as an employer affect people.
See the employer data from Surrey Police.
Representation – our office
Women account for 59% of the substantive employees of our team. Currently, one member of staff is from an ethnic minority background (5% of staff total) and 9% of staff have declared a disability as described by section 6 of the Equality Act 2010(1).

Your voice
Our office and Surrey Police also work with a number of local groups to ensure that the voice of different communities are reflected in policing. Details of the Surrey Police Independent Advisory Group (IAG) and our links with representative community groups can be found below.

We regularly work with and speak to a variety of local partners including Surrey Community Action, Surrey Minority Ethnic Forum and Surrey Coalition of Disabled People.

Independent Advisory Group
The Independent Advisory Group seeks to promote local community confidence and to act as a ‘critical friend’ to Surrey Police. The IAG consists of a cross section of Surrey residents, including representatives of our student community. IAG members are appointed for their specialist knowledge, experience and/or links with minority groups and ‘hard to reach’ communities in Surrey.
You can contact the IAG or express your interest in joining, by emailing the Inclusion Team at Surrey Police who will forward your enquiry to the Chair.

ArabellaScott · 14/03/2025 16:38

FWIW, I've written to PCCs before when I don't live in the area and had responses.

You are so right to be shocked, so am I. Curious how much the police knew from the start of investigation to the arrest as it looks like Ireland was “partnered” with the police during this time visiting schools. Beggars be

WarriorN · 14/03/2025 16:48

It may need its own thread tbh to raise awareness of how fucked up Surrey police are

Known sex offender

Its a blunt holding offence once its found there is limited soddi* or no defence (eg for personal tec)

[ As I recall that led to one of the most senior black police woman being sacked and charged back on 2020ish?? when a family member sent her images to be investigated ]

So there may have been a gap between CPS ruling in the file but a warrent to take his devices /held for questioning would have been issued before that but if the images were logged as found in May he an unconvicted CSO

And correct me on this anyone but suspicion of CSOing flags up on DBS without any need for court action?

(soddi = some other dude did it)
