Gosh. I remember this person from a few years ago when Starbucks was doing its Mermaid biscuits campaign. A local councillor (?) raised her concerns about safeguarding at Mermaids and he had a real go at her.

There's a court listing service called Courtserve which shows daily listings for Crown Courts (and others). It's free and all you need to do is create a sign in with a password to access it. The lists are updated every day. Just scroll down until you find Guildford Crown Court and it will tell you which court and what time.
If you want to attend in person you can just turn up and sit in the public gallery.

I am not quite sure how to read the entry. So, for today this came up

"10:00 AM
CP Case
IRELAND Stephen
C80NFV9HQ4
Other Prosecutor
Complainant's anonymity protected by virtue of Section 1 of the Sexual Offences Amendment Act 1992, No witnesses on day. OIC to attend."

And then the next entry at 12:00pm already. Does it mean it scheduled to last for two hours only?

CriticalCondition · 11/02/2025 18:09

Great, sounds like you've found it and it was on today. Sounds like some sort of preliminaries were heard today if there were no witnesses and it was only for a couple of hours.
For tomorrow go back to 'Guildford Crown Court'. Under that there should be another list for tomorrow. They don't list further on than that because it's very difficult to estimate how quickly or slowly cases will progress. From memory it's not very clear and the headings under Guildford CC may not include the actual dates. Try that.

Name changed.

I understand from twitter that this is now in Guildford Crown Court. Does anyone know how to check if it is live and how I can attend as a member of public?

A few weeks ago my local (public! not closed) facebook group for over 30k members put a sanguine post up about Pride in Surrey having their annual parade taking place in Guildford this year.

I very (very!) politely replied that it would be great if Pride in Surrey explained how they have changed their policies to insure safeguards for children before they put any more events that attract children. I was immediately and without any warning or explanation banned from the group. When I messaged an admin asking why I cannot access the group I was immediately blocked.

So, I would like to follow this case closer as it seems there are a lot of people who would rather this case was not in the public domain.

Ironic and depressing that the whole reason these men were able to get away with their (alleged) abuse is because no one was willing to answer questions and instead blocked the efforts of reasonable enquiries. Your ex FB group doing exactly the same. Clearly no lesson learned there!

WokingGal · 11/02/2025 19:37

Yes exactly, so over 30,000 members and countless non-member can only see the announcement of the pride parade and not my very polite and important post under it. And it is not the whole group, there are just two admins. They blocked me. So now I am cut off from local news. Not that it is the end of the world, but I am pretty pissed off about it. This is not their private space but now out public space. Yet no accountability whatsoever.

I wonder if I can dispute it with FaceBook, does anyone know?

WokingGal · 11/02/2025 19:38

Our shared public space. Sorry about the typos.

WokingGal · 11/02/2025 19:40

nauticant · 11/02/2025 19:12

Oh, I can't open the link. ConfusedWhat am I supposed to see here? Sorry!

WokingGal · 11/02/2025 19:43

Sorry, just loaded (it takes a while)!

So that case isn't listed. Does it mean it did not go ahead today? Why a discrepancy with CourtServe? So sorry, this is all completely new to me. Blush

nauticant · 11/02/2025 20:25

I have the impression that looking back the information is patchy or gone but there can be clearer information looking forward, for example: The Daily Court Status can be seen here everyday from 10:00 am.

nauticant · 11/02/2025 20:41

Actually, having had a look around it looks like the best publicly available information is on https://www.courtserve.net/. To get access you need to go through a simple registration and then you get good information. In particular, Ireland and Sutton are both listed tomorrow for 10.45 in court 1.

Thank you! I have registered too. I wonder if there is an end time available. I can attend from around 2pm only.

nauticant · 11/02/2025 22:11

That I don't know. Other courts have similarly early starts but have a number of cases scheduled throughout the day so maybe it'll be a full day in court 1. But that's just a guess.

Good heavens, the BBC explicitly mentions "Pride group founder" in the headline.

The BBC!

ArabellaScott · 14/02/2025 08:29

Details of the charges (all still yet to be tried so alleged):

'Mr Ireland and Mr Sutton are jointly charged with 15 offences relating to a number of children, including six counts of conspiracy to sexually assault a child, one count of conspiracy to kidnap a child and four counts of arranging the commission of a child sex offence.

Jurors heard that Mr Ireland was charged with a further 20 counts, including raping a child and causing a child to engage in sexual activity.

Mr Sutton was also charged with another five offences, including making indecent photographs of children, the court heard.

The alleged offences are said to have happened between August 2022 and July 2024, Surrey Police said.

Ms Delamere said the children were mostly, but not exclusively, male.'

No even sorry or ashamed. The normalisation of CSA sickens me.

ArabellaScott · 25/02/2025 15:55

Absolutely horrific charges.

When people show who they really are, believe them.

The word safeguarding is not a 'dogwhistle'.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 25/02/2025 17:47

Unbelievable that they went into schools to talk about sex and sexuality to children 😡Hopefully there'll be an enquiry into every school who invited them in following the trial.
