She could have put this to bed by sharing DNA tests. I'm struggling to feel sympathy, although it must be horrid.

I’m calm don’t worry about me. You don’t see a he you just don’t know. And if you don’t know maybe stop saying he. It’s horrible and you are adding to the bullying.

What we do know is imane has xy chromosomes. On the balance of probabilities it is nearly overwhelmingly likely that Imane is male with a dsd disorder, which led to them being ‘assigned’ or thought to be female. Lots of sympathy for the position of discovering that you aren’t, most especially when you come from a country like Algeria where it might be very difficult to be known to have a dsd- inane might be looking at a difficult future at home which is very stressful. You wouldn’t want to be outed as gay and sent back to Iran- this isn’t as dangerous as that but it might be dangerous. No sympathy or support for people who’ve sent abuse (actual abuse, saying you’re male and shouldn’t be in this comp is not abuse) and anyone sending abuse online should be held up and made to take responsibility for it. But Imane should not be allowed to compete in women’s sports and that should be a clearly defined constraint. The IOC have fucked this up for Imane and the other male boxer in the women’s comp as well as letting women everywhere down, most particularly the ones they are putting through an unfair and dangerous competition they are calling the women’s category. I’d focus on the IOCs egregious fault here, the issue of fairness and safety in women’s sport, and calling out abuse wherever you see it.

What is it with you saying ‘he’ when SHE a woman? I don’t understand how you can be so horrible! she IS A WOMAN not a transsexual a WOMAN. she is from Algeria under Algeria law they do not recognise ANYONE changing their gender so her gender has NOT been changed her dad came out and provided proof of documents everything to show she is female. What is it with everyone? Lies have been spread and everyone is so quick to believe it. Just because she looks like a man does not mean she’s a man. Do more research.

You do some research and read the analysis by expert biologists like Emma Hilton and others. Don’t swallow the misinformation circulating on social media. Khalif is not a woman with high testosterone. Khalif is male with normal male levels of testosterone. An XY male with a DSD who has been banned from the women’s category by two other boxing federations.

Well, if we don't know, you can say she and I'll say he and maybe some people will say 'they'...does it really matter then if nobody knows for sure what we call Imane?

I'll call him Cheaty McCheatyface.

Catsmere · 11/08/2024 03:26

Oh, now we're apparently unable to know a man when we see one? That's a familiar argument, now where have I heard it before ... 🤔

All the frothrage about Poor Imane is the sort of thing only men get. Women don't, least of all from men.

We havent heard a squeak about the women he beat since.
None of their backstories, the sacrifice they made to get here and what it means to them not having a chance, once there.

Exactly!

I'm surprised the male apologists haven't trotted out the "well she asked for it" line.

Blimey. More research, eh?

FuckeryOmbudsman · 11/08/2024 06:24

No one should be harassed online

As with all discrimination cases, it’s about the is the view of the person who is being harassed (for example bullying at work is decided on from the pov of those bullied, not the bullies)

And no-one should have to provide the public with medical details because there’s a mob howling for it

(See Kate hate of earlier this year - it’s really not OK)

Note that the complaint is about online harassment - not the substance of the issues of the regulation of boxing

Someone’s been on the gin tonight!
He is male.

I’m calm don’t worry about me. You don’t see a he you just don’t know. And if you don’t know maybe stop saying he. It’s horrible and you are adding to the bullying.

Do you understand that you are supporting a male boxer with the likelihood of having punch power of at least 162+% the power a female boxer can generate being in the ring punching a female in the face?

You get that right? You get that you are supporting the equivalent of a heavyweight boxer punching a welterweight boxer in the head. Wouldn’t be allowed if they were both male. Yet, you wish to support this because you choose to ignore that this boxer is male, has been tested to be male twice. If new reports are accurate, three times.

So, what do you call a male person who has made an informed choice to enter the ring and fight a female boxer? I think that ‘bully’ is the least of what we could call this boxer. So you do you. But please stop telling others what they should see and what they should say.

So you don’t think that a male person claiming to be female in order to beat actual females in the public arena should have to prove he’s female?

In Algeria a woman would never be carried, legs akimbo, by a man like Khelif was after the last match, it is haram. That was pretty telling. Oh, and the test results letter we all saw 🤷‍♀️

I hope he does try to sue JK, it would probably be the quickest route to seeing the genetic testing results in a legal setting, settling things for once and all.

EatMoreFibre · 11/08/2024 06:38

But her sex is crucial to the competition and no more private than a doping test result.
"Xyz disqualified as they fail doping test. Tested positive for steroids"
"A & B banned from the female category and they fail eligibility test. Tested positive for xy chromosomes"
That's public information. I agree nobody is entitled to know which specific disorder she has if any. The above is enough and it's the IOC mishandling that has created the controversy.

However all details might come to light because of this lawsuit. Winning gold wasn't enough, Khelif wants her honour and her name cleared and her enemies humbled. I'm not sure it is wise for her to attract attention to the facts of the matter and I'm amazed she has been advised to sue.

But I for one welcome any light on this. Bring it on! Let's find out the truth.

Yes, it's MVAWG elevated to a spectator sport with the full connivance of the IOC.

Walkden · 11/08/2024 06:39

" it only counts as defamation if what you are saying is a lie"

She did also call her a cheat when the competition rules made her eligible.....

Indeed. eatmorefibre you are right.

Errm! A person competing in a protected sports category needs to fulfill the eligibility of that category. That the IOC removed the obligation of sex testing is at the heart of this issue. These male athletes should never have been allowed to compete in the female category in the first place.

But sure, the issue is expecting a male person to respect female people by not entering the category or at least providing test results to show eligibility.

Good to know.

HE'S A MAN! The truth is not hate.

Catsmere · 11/08/2024 06:50

What's this "harassment" he's claiming anyway? I didn't see anything in the article that suggested it. People stating he's a man is the truth, not harassment.

" it only counts as defamation if what you are saying is a lie"

She did also call her a cheat when the competition rules made her eligible.....

... when another sports body had deemed her ineligible. THAT was what started this issue ("ahtlete banned by their sport association has been okayed for olympics") and not her looks.

We as women / the public have been through this before: being lied to, silenced and accused of racism, when Semenya dominated the 800m for a few years. Turns out people's suspicions were right but it doesn't matter now. The women who missed out on medals, prizes and professional opportunities will never be compensated.

IK & LY's case is clearer in that they have already been tested by a sports body to establish their sex, whereas the whole Semenya debacle was a huge learning curve for the athletics association.

In terms of the athletes I take your point that no rules have been broken. However the "cheat" comment can be defended if the individual knows they are male but they choose to enter a female competition.

I would welcome these points being dissected in court by brilliant minds - is our shy, pious country girl Imane ready for that? I'm glad she is keeping the discussion alive.

The IOC are culpable here. They have caused this mess and out Kehlif in a position that never needed to happen.
