This image however really does illustrate progress. What a wonderful world where a woman from a conservative Muslim country, brought up in a rural area, can box and compete on the world stage- no requirement for modest dress, and able to interact freely with men.

#progress #feminism.

Warms your cockles doesn't it? & his too by the looks of it.

So this time round (as far as we know) it's a DSD which gives the all important F marker. Next time out though, there're a huge number of countries who allow self id on passports and if they get the public to accept this then there're golds up for grabs.

It's in California too, where self ID is the law, and any restrictions might fall foul of it.

I didn't think of that - interesting (in a horrible way for those of us who just observe, so much more for the competitors). So could the usual suspects challenge even the sporting orgs who do restrict based on sex?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/08/2024 10:58

I'm not sure, I think it's a bit of a grey area legally.

kiterunning · 10/08/2024 11:00

@TheKeatingFive
Yes, this.
We can only hope.

NotBadConsidering · 10/08/2024 11:01

Of course we will all remember in the future, that any man who identifies as trans who has male on his original birth certificate and was raised a boy, can’t override that by this logic.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/08/2024 11:01

@ResisterofTwaddleRex posted this on the thread about misgendering, I thought it was relevant to this one:

Malice or ill will. Like this? Or maybe not as this seems to have moved straight into censorship, with Dawkins guessing as to why:

"My entire @facebook account has been deleted, seemingly (no reason given) because I tweeted that genetically male boxers such as Imane Khalif (XY undisputed) should not fight women in Olympics. Of course my opinion is open to civilised argument. But outright censorship?"

"To clarify. I made the statement on @X, not on Facebook. Yet is it my @Facebook account which is deleted."

I'm definitely seeing a lot of push back on sm. The original post all appear to be very scripted when they are for khelif for example: I need to apologise, I let the comments carry me along but now I've discovered the truth and can only apologise for how bigoted I was etc etc. The ones against khelif read much more naturally. The posts trying to confirm khelif is female are getting a lot of pushback, links and factual comments being posted on them. The majority are not happy with this

Mollyollydolly · 10/08/2024 11:09

I've run out of words at this point. Musk is a maniac but at least we can attempt to have the discussion on X. This is sinister, disturbing, choose your own adjective.

There's no way this bloke thinks he's female;he knows he's a bloke,we know he's a bloke,everyone knows he's a bloke.

I'm not sure about "everyone". There are plenty of morons people posting nonsense on social media, and lots claiming to know details of Khelif's medical history and details of his physiology, though as far as I am aware the only public medical information is that Khelif is XY. In the past few days I've read many comments saying that Khelif is a woman with high testosterone (I don't think it's ever been measured), the Khelif has ovaries and a vagina, and even an article claiming that Khelif is a female with Swyer syndrome. That last one got lots of likes and supportive comments. Hmm They are all making up crap and people believe it.

I am seeing comments like this but a lot of push back in the responses.

Seems to be a real epidemic of people with x ray eyes who can all see Khelif's uterus 🤔

I know, it's really concerning. Facebook is the biggest social media platform globally by some way.

It's amazing.

Didn't someone pop in earlier this week to inform us that he was capable of birthing a child?

Musk put a spanner in the social media thought control experiment. He let a lot of allies go when he took over twitter.

He may be upsetting some powerful people.

Agree with this.
It's not the same as trans. Dsd conditions can be very complex.

It does seem that this boxer has male advantage and in that case of course Khelif should not be fighting against women.

But she may truly consider herself female. She was socialised as such and I have no issue referring to her as female, just not boxing as such if she does have male musculature etc. It's a medical condition. She is from a poor, very conservative background too. We can have no idea how educated she is about sex. It's supposition to say she knows she's a man. She might. She might not believe it. Most likely has ambiguous genetalia or this wouldn't have happened in the first place, surely.

Still not fair she fights though. That shouldn't have happened. Unfair on everyone involved.

Although I am appalled at how badly this has been handled by the IOC I do feel uncomfortable at how much Khelif has been singled out for criticism.

i think she's being used by the IOC, who are hiding behind her rights as an individual. But they will be quite happy to throw her under a bus if it came down to it.

Of course she should never have been put in this position in the first place, and she hasn't helped her case much either, she shouldn't have engaged in the discussion.

Hopefully this will bring about a meaningful change, having alerted so many people around the world to the real issues.

My absolute favourite argument is about him suing for libel. I can't wait to follow that case!

NoBinturongsHereMate · 10/08/2024 11:20

It's as if not being able to have all the working parts of a man automatically makes him a woman.

Like the Olympics, that goes back to ancient Greece. Women are defective men, therefore by extrapolatiion 'defective' men are women.

AIstolemylunch · 10/08/2024 11:23

My only bit of hope in this whole mess if the younger generation. My teenage sons and their friends, who are all BIG into boxing, weightlifting, fitness etc, and were discussing Imane Khaleif last night. There was a lot of 'but imagine winning an olympic medal in the women's boxing though!" "What a loser man" "How embarrassing for him" etc. They know. Young boys and men are laughing at him. It's a hollow victory.

Signalbox · 10/08/2024 11:32

I wonder if anyone can find another example of a female athlete (from any country/culture) crushing her male coach's head into her breast. The argument is that muslim women wouldn't behave like this but I don't think that your average western woman behaves like this either.

A lengthy, scolding post I saw on FB, which had loads of likes and shares, stated Khelif had Swyers and was definitely female. It was a small crumb of comfort to see the post was later hidden under a flag stating it was false information.

Only the male types of women can do this though.

The female type need to stay at home without human rights.

Did you watch the bout? Watch how he acts in the 3rd round and afterwards and come and tell me you still think he deserves sympathy.
