That's a Twitter search, isn't it?

Yes, I've just tried the Facebook search and got the same message as you all. And people wonder why so many people use Twitter.

From Woman's Hour:

Dan Roan, Sports Editor BBC, very senior: He referred to concerns over the one-sided nature of these contests, and how there may be an unfair advantage. On the other hand the IOC says all is well.

Rani: What is it really about?
Roan told her it was about fairness and safety in women's sports.

The BBC is still all about the "elevated testosterone" rather than male puberty.

Roan acknowledged that these could be DSD cases and there are indications to support that.

Rani was asking tentative questions but she was subdued and she came across as somewhat of a hostage although she did show conern for "the two women at the heart of this".

But, I'd say the BBC are worried. They can see the narrative could turn on a dime and being cheerleaders for gender ideology could end up landing them in a massive mess and lead to questions about their credibility.

Interesting, @nauticant

That makes sense.

If some of the die hard TWAW mantra people have to start thinking ‘hang on … ‘ then it will start the dissonance alarm. It will take the activist groups who have been feeding them the lines a lot more effort to quiet those alarms. But sadly, I don’t doubt they will. The Olympics is nearly over and all this will be forgotten by those people who wish to bury the dissonance.

nauticant · 09/08/2024 10:35

The vibe I got from Roan is that if the male boxers both get gold then all hell might break loose. From which I infer that the Olympic and sporting establishment is hoping for two silvers because that provides more of a chance of containment.

ILikeDungs · 09/08/2024 10:36

"Some feel the woman's category has to be protected with fairness and safety trumping inclusion, others of course feel very differently as I am sure you have discussed on Women's Hour in the past..."

No, not really.

"Rani was asking tentative questions but she was subdued and she came across as somewhat of a hostage although she did show conern for "the two women at the heart of this".

WTAF? Not concerned about the women being punched in the head by males with 162% advantage in punch power then?

That would be a turn around for Rani - she’s very #BeKind usually. Her fawning adoration of Paris Lees a while ago was grim.

At times like this I really miss Emma Barnett on WH.

nauticant · 09/08/2024 10:50

I heard it as Rani knowing that cheerleading here was fraught with hazard so she did a couple of minor #bekind interventions but mostly left it up to Roan.

Have a listen, it's really interesting, and is the first thing on today's episode: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0021qwk

Well, I still wouldn’t vote for him (luckily I’m not American so not stuck between that particular rock and hard place) but he does come out with some extremely quotable lines from time to time!

(my kids and I all write ‘covfefe’’ in the little reference box when we send each other bank transfers. I don’t know who started it but it stuck!)

Sorry to derail slightly but that tickled me; my DH and I always ask each other if we want a covfefe 😂and it's stuck. Donald Trump will never come out with some of the classic Bushisms I remember from the early 2000s though...

To get back to the thread, it's just unbelievable that this is happening in 2024.

hellotowel · 09/08/2024 11:24

I would vote for him and then move abroad ASAP.

nah. just the same old same old.

I think the OP read it and felt convinced that these male boxers could be female because a specialist declared that a woman came in to see him the other day and was tested to have male chromosomes...

I am getting very tired of the conflation of the grouping of male DSDs to attempt to destabilise the proven science of male advantage. Those with those DSDs that don't virilise must be hiding all social media and all media at the moment. They are again being used to destabilise known science. As if they are a convenient political wedge.

The day is going to come, though, surely? I do believe the moment will come where we'll look back on this and say, how did people ever convince themselves of this. I certainly hope Lin and Khelif win now.

BeyondOlympicLevelProcrastinator · 09/08/2024 11:56

I was looking through my old twitter posts and one jumped out about the BBC completely failing to report the change in IOC regulations in 2016.

The recent report might be annoying in some of its irrelevance, but it's definitely progress
