I made the mistake of looking at Facebook comments. Misogyny and the most breathtaking ignorance. Well, the media can take responsibility for much of the ignorance. The constant use of she, the misunderstanding of 5ARD, the portrayal of high testosterone levels as a strange genetic gift rather than something completely normal for a man, and now the headlines jubilant announcing gold for this poor "falsely accused" woman. I went to sleep furious and I've woken if possible more furious.

Re: gloating, I see it not so much the interesting omnicause that has been proposed recently but misogynists just exploiting a readily available cover to allow them to vent misogyny in public.

Yeah, I imagine boxing is one of the typically male spheres that misogynist men strongly feel women have "invaded". And the women don't even have the decency to look sexy while doing it - baggy shorts and vest instead of tight underwear, weird helmet and gumshield. They're not even providing wank fodder. And then a man comes in and starts punching them in the face and showing them what their place is again - below him. I'm sure that's very satisfying to a lot of men.

For the exact reason many women found that fight highly disturbing to watch, many men enjoyed it.

I dunno, if we take on face value the number of Righteous posters on all these Olympic boxing threads, there are an awful lot of women who are mad keen on watching certain individuals beat up other individuals.

It seems plausible that these are purported women, women who dislike women, or those who would embrace Handmaiden status as a means of protecting themselves (approving the beating of other women can cement their status).

The media have called him 'her' throughout and shut down any counter arguments very successfully with 'there is no way to be sure a woman is a woman because the biology is all too complicated for you to understand dears'.

The IOC have established the precedent that they needn't share what, if any, testing they've done. Showing a passport is all that's needed to compete in women's sports at the highest level, even when you are patently a man to anyone with eyes.

You can be sure the next time this happens it will be swept even further under the carpet because the 2024 Olympics have set this precedent.

I am so depressed by this. I think the only option is for women to establish separate, parallel competitions to allow women to compete only with women and just leave the mainstream competitions to the people who have clearly lost the plot.

It’s very depressing and I think women should refuse to fight him. It would be a hollow victory to win with no fights. No ability to gloat (as now).

I don’t accept Khelif’s win. He’s a man and it’s a boxing competition for women. He can grandstand all he wants but his supposed ‘win’ will always be tainted. So, no, he’s not a gold medal winner IMO.

I too wish boxing would set up an alternative olympics, where every woman was sex-tested and their results freely available to the public. We’d see the real winners then.

The president and/or vice president wading into the row could have quite an impact even without them controlling the rules. In the present case the IOC have barely kept a lid on things even with the media being significantly on board. It's still uncertain whether they'll completely get away with it.

The handmaiden is very easy when the women are already deemed a subclass, the idea of a woman choosing to box is as alien as the type of woman in prison. So yes I can easily see why there are women who support the male as he’s the real victim in their eyes.

Well yes good point. If the IOC truly believe that sex screening is immoral or inhumane or unscientific or racist or whatever it is they are saying this week about why it shouldn't be carried out, why not have a blanket ban across all sports? When they say "we don't want to return to the bad old days of sex testing" they are referring to the current Olympics.

Sharron Davies has mentioned a book about the IOC called The Lords of The Rings. Written in the late 80s/early 90s it’s a damning account of how corrupt they all are and no doubt still are.

Interestingly I read that London are considering bidding for the 2036 or 2042 Olympics. The days of 5/6 cities bidding for each Games (like when London won the 2012 bid) are long gone. LA and Brisbane were the only cities to bid for 2028 so they just decided to award one that Games and the other 2032.

I am just going to have a quick look to see if she tweeted anything when Nicola Adams won gold for Team GB.
