Words fail I'm so angry, but by god she is brave.
Personally I feel sick and 'triggered' it reminds me of the first time an ex punched me on the thigh, I couldnt get over how much it hurt or the enormous bruise from knee to hip. I know there is a general thread on this but its so important it deserves multiple threads. I hope Carinis decision to stop the fight so very publicly makes a difference.
Meanwhile Khelif crows “I am here for gold,” “I will fight anybody, I will fight them all.”
Not the REMOTEST hint of sportsmanlike conduct.
I vote we write to VIiner en masse and lay some responsibility at her feet.
Actually EVERY editor, The Indy NYT WAPO etc
I am incandescent

We are talking in this thread about males with disorders of sexual development who are cheating by pretending to be women even though they know they have XY chromosomes. These two boxers are not trans.

sadabouti · 02/08/2024 21:42

@TempestTost I see you swerved my questions. I'm going to assume that you are a trans woman and that's why you persist with the idea that sex is not immutable or driven by chromosomes alone. If I am correct in this assumption, we are in fact two men talking to each other. And not a man (me) talking to a woman (you). This matters if you are going to argue that my views count for less than yours because I am male and you are female. If you are a trans woman, you may not be lying consciously, but your assumption of a right to speak for women would be misrepresentation of the truth.

I don't claim to speak for woman or men, just myself.

I'll frame it differently to try to get to the facts so others can judge for themselves. Are you a woman who was assigned male at birth? Or are you a Cis Woman.

Fully recommend this podcast episode for a good summary of why this is wrong and why the IOC made this decision.... they care more about inclusivity than safety

As an aside, I am kind of dumbfounded that the IOC don't test for testosterone for boxers, given the history of doping in other sports. Sounds like it's open season for cheats of both sexes.

Of course they test for testosterone and many other performance enhancing drugs. What makes you think they don’t? (Although it’s actually WADA rather than the IOC who do the testing).

NotBadConsidering · 02/08/2024 23:32

Funny how the one trans identifying female in the boxing decided to enter the female category, even though her passport says M. It’s almost as if she knows biology matters and the IOC’s parroted line about passports and paperwork is, well, flexible.

They care more about the money and power.
Yes it is a good podcast, and its clear they are bullying any competion and are leaned on in turn by the US and the ideology they are pushing along with the usual suspects like Stonewall.
There must be so many 'handshakes' changing hands and funding swirling about.

Wasn't sure which thread to post this on (apologies for repetition if it's already been shared).

IBA is to award Angela Carini of Italy with Olympic champion prize money.

"I couldn’t look at her tears,’ President Kremlev said. ‘I am not indifferent to such situations, and I can assure that we will protect each boxer. I do not understand why they kill women’s boxing. Only eligible athletes should compete in the ring for the sake of safety.’

Kremlev also said that IBA will support Sitora Turdibekova of Uzbekistan"

Snowypeaks · 03/08/2024 09:22

That's nice compensation for the boxers, although I am sure they would rather have had a fair fight.

Also, cynical me says, great PR for the IBA. But they are the honest ones on this specific issue so they get credit for that.

UpThePankhurst · 03/08/2024 09:24

It really isn't 'inclusivity' that they care about.

Littlewhingingfucker · 03/08/2024 09:48

unless it's a special'sport' that you play with your genitals and I don't think there are any of those in the Olympics?
Judging by this year's opening ceremony they'll be including women's Wang fencing for 2028

Because the IOC said they hadn't tested the athletes in question testosterone or done other gender tests and had made their decision based upon passports.

And also because these male competitors in a female competition have not been flagged up by antidoping testing as having testosterone outside the female range and excluded from competition.

What other conclusion are we supposed to draw?

mids2019 · 03/08/2024 10:54

So it looks like the IOC are going to let this shit show continue with a press conference held not to consider womens safety but to damn talk on social media being filled with hate speech and the controversy is all political.

Male muscle mass in an arm isn't political as I see it. Male aggression isn't political either. This is pure deflection.

The IOC are saying men are women simply because they have been brought up as women. No matter how you are brought up it doesn't change your anatomy or physiology.

I think they are really digging a hole for themselves.

That famous quote springs to mind. The one about every lie told owing a debt to the truth.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 03/08/2024 11:03

so the IOC position is stop annoyingly pointing out that they’re male you big meanies - they really are arses

InfoSecInTheCity · 03/08/2024 11:28

@LaeralSilverhand WADO do randomised sampling of athletes or testing in response to a direct accusation. It's urine testing looking for prohibited substances as they are looking for performance enhancing substances not Chromosomal anomalies.

The IOC gave a press conference where they confirmed that sex was verified by looking at the athletes passport and confirming that it matched the sex they registered under.

In the case of an athlete with a DSD they will have been mistakenly sexed at birth as female while having male chromosomes and later male puberty. The passport would therefore reflect the incorrect information reflected in their birth certificate.

There's no man braver than a man who beats up women.

What a piece of work.

And that goes for the Olympics Committee who are doing their best to nudge women out of sport.

This.

No brave men here
They know they are XY and have previously been banned for competing against actual women! No sympathy at all. Dreadful

Oh dear, they're very upset about freedom of speech? The Stalinist-style propaganda isn't working? With every move they reveal themselves as more despicable.

I'd imagine their next step will be to prevent televising the events as the right think doublespeak over the top isn't working when people can see what's happening.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 03/08/2024 15:30

Lol
at this from Sean Ingle in the guardian

“In a sign of the issue’s complexity, Bach confused the terms transgender and DSD, an abbreviation of “differences in sexual development”, as he sought to quell the row over a swiftly terminated bout between Algerian fighter Imane Khelif and Italian Angela Carini. “I will not confuse the two issues,” Bach said, before confusing the two”

UtopiaPlanitia · 03/08/2024 15:32

Dr Emma Hilton, who has done research on the question of whether male advantage in sport is reduced by suppression of testosterone, has posted a useful tweet regarding the two Olympic boxers in question:

https://x.com/FondOfBeetles/status/1819402288789590246

‘If it is, as suspected, 5ARD, this means: The baby starts developing as a healthy male (XY, testes, testosterone, all the internal plumbing). But the baby lacks a protein needed to make a penis grow. This means that baby’s external genitals can develop as female-looking. Hence, baby might be registered at birth as female.

During puberty, the male internal bits start kicking out huge amounts of testosterone (as per male) and their external genitals start to become more masculine. It’s a kind of “catch up”.

Not only that, but testosterone at puberty - produced by all that internal male biology - does all the regular stuff it does to muscles blah blah. So their body - the thing they run, jump and punch with - has developed like any other male. That’s why they shouldn’t be in female categories. It’s got precisely nothing to do with their external genitalia and what their paperwork says.’

herecomesthesunyes · 03/08/2024 15:40

From the Sean Ingles article…

On Saturday, Bach condemned as “hate speech” the criticism directed by some at two women boxers. “We will not take part in a politically motivated … cultural war”, he said.
He said: “We have two boxers who are born as women, who have been raised as women, who have a passport as a woman and have competed for many years as women. Some want to own a definition of who is a woman.”

That last sentence makes my blood boil.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 03/08/2024 17:26

So fucking what Bach? I mean aside from what does it mean to be raised as woman, so fucking what?

I could raise my cat as a dog but it wouldn’t make it one!!
