Women's rights general conversations - Thread 9

Continuation of Thread 8.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions in the supermarket, grr"- that sort of thing).

"The film also connects the arguments put forth for the bans – “looking out” for the children, concern over the difficult road ahead and what is the “best” environment for a child – to the logic underpinning bans on interracial marriage"

There were many ridiculous arguments against interracial marriage. I don't remember 'It gives a high risk of osteoporosis before you're 30' or 'pre-teen children can't fully understand impacts on fertility and sexual function' being among them.

Britinme · 29/01/2025 13:51

I await the Guardian's response to the new EO about "chemical and surgical mutilation of children" with interest.

lcakethereforeIam · 29/01/2025 14:01

If you follow the links or the article trying to discredit the Doctors in the sidebar, just the headlines, it's so sad. I used to read the online Guardian so much. The comments sections, though I never commented myself, were brilliant. I rarely bother with it now and comments have mostly gone, rarely allowed and strictly moderated. I only noticed the article I posted upthread because it came up under the Google search bar while looking for something else.

Reading these partisan articles you can see, buried, where the Guardian has tried to be balanced. Probably because of legalities. Like the faint flickers of life in the end stages of a terminal illness.

Perhaps I missed it, but there didn't seem to be a mention of Cass in the article, nor, I suspect, in the film.

Police Scotland have made an interesting choice of campaigner against domestic abuse: www.lbc.co.uk/news/police-scotland-recruit-kink-content-porn-creator-for-domestic-abuse-campaign/

duc748 · 29/01/2025 14:05

They just can't help themselves, can they?
The institutional damage in the UK is massive, and will sure take some repairing.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 29/01/2025 14:11

Lasted about as long as Rape Crisis Scotland's draft policy (leaked on Sunday) that 'women includes trans women'. Draft policy (and all attempts at defining 'woman' as requested by Roz's judge) now dropped and statement issued saying women-only services will be for 'women born women'.

lcakethereforeIam · 29/01/2025 14:16

So Brindley and cronies staff took a year(?) to try to work out what a woman is, gave up and tried business-as-usual, caved under backlash, then figured it out more or less immediately?

And the person responsible for due dilligence is still in a job?

Of fucking course, bcause not MP or MSP has got the balls (sic) to go balls out on this subject (yet - it will happen. cos in case you haven't realised it the krytonite for the next election).

The Dentons document lays bare how calculated it all was.

I’ve just come across this which is a week old now, but if it was posted elsewhere I missed it. Diagnosis of gender dysphoria in children in England rose 50 fold in a decade.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/jan/24/children-england-gender-dysphoria-diagnosis-rise

No contagion though, just better understanding of the condition.

Gender dysphoria diagnoses among children in England rise fiftyfold over 10 years

Study of GP records finds prevalence rose from one in 60,000 in 2011 to one in 1,200 in 2021 – but numbers still low overall

Have tou all seen this? Hilarious levels of reverse ferreting.

Tooting33 · 03/02/2025 00:37

The stonewall stuff is partly infuriating - they never really believed it, they just wanted to force it on everyone.

“The past was alterable. The past never had been altered. Oceania was at war with Eastasia. Oceania had always been at war with Eastasia.“

This ideology thrives on altering the past and/or wilfully misinterpreting it.

How did I miss knowing about this remarkable.woman? en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victoria_Woodhull

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 08/02/2025 06:43

I've missed this case until now, of a woman prisoner being in court for correctly sexing a man who's in the same woman's prison:

x.com/lucyhunterb/status/1888048013995545015?s=61

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 08/02/2025 08:15

So she's in prison alongside a man, and she said out loud that he's a man, and now she's in court for saying it because she hurt the man's feelings. You couldn't make it up, could you.

Kucinghitam · 08/02/2025 08:24

And... we the taxpayers are funding her persecution...

OP posts:
lcakethereforeIam · 08/02/2025 11:36

This the stabby bloke in a relationship with a child killer in the women's wing of the prison? I think I did post an article...somewhere.

Eta

The man, despite having many years and the taxpayer's purse open to pay for it, has only had his Adam's apple shaved by way of gender affirming care. Make of that what you will.

SinnerBoy · 08/02/2025 21:06

Well, if they're going to prosecute prisoners for trash talking each other, it makes sense to simply make all sentences life without parole, in order to save valuable time and money.

I made the same point on the Twatter thread.

ConstructionTime · 08/02/2025 21:49

I saw some comics being posted about various feminist topics, and now I came across who I think the artist is; here they are all compiled at once. Art says more than words and all that:

The Fife tribunal has rather taken over my MN life this week. What a load of utter batshittery!

But in case anyone missed it, several posters (sorry, lost track of who Blush) linked this article.

https://newsletter.sarahhaider.com/p/on-effective-activism-and-intellectual

I don't really know much about the author. The thing that resonated with me was the idea of effective activism almost requiring a willingness to do/say bad things for the ultimate Greater Good.

UNLOCKED: On Effective Activism and Intellectual Honesty

There is a fundamental disconnect between the functions of two different classes of “discourse participants” - those who use language to think and discover truth and those who use it as a means to power.

Same here re Fife, Kuc!

A document that someone posted on one of the 18 and counting threads which I think is really useful is Jo Phoenix' summary of what relevant judgments have been made when. Looking at it, I'm more baffled than ever by how so many organisations are so ignorant of others who have already FAFO.
