TWO “Female Boxers” Set To Compete At Paris 2024 Were Previously Disqualified From Women’s World Championship For Having “XY Chromosomes”

Surely this cannot be true. In boxing of all sports. I thought boxing had told men they needed to compete with other men?

”Two athletes competing at the Paris Olympics as “women” were previously disqualified from a women’s world championship for having “XY chromosomes.” Imane Khelif of Algeria and Lin Yu-Ting of Taiwan are scheduled to compete in Olympic women’s boxing next week despite past questions surrounding their biological sex.”

Yes, where are the usual suspects?

Probably setting everyone straight in another pronoun thread.

I wonder if the BBC commentary team will say anything, assuming these fights go ahead?

Dont make me laugh

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 30/07/2024 12:58

I’ve filled in the form, thank you.

I asked them why they didn’t decide to hold the woman’s boxing in the Colosseum, with added lions. You know, just to make sure….

Maaate · 30/07/2024 13:08

One small silver lining is the fact hat this is going to happen has peaked so many of my colleagues - many of whom were on the #bekind side before ( I work at a captured university). Hopefully the same is happening in other workplaces too.

woofyoof · 30/07/2024 13:08

Oh yay, women beating is a recognised sport now....

soupycustard · 30/07/2024 13:16

Sent them a message. Thank you for the link.

caringcarer · 30/07/2024 13:18

If that's true it is absolutely sickening to have men beating up female boxers.

The IOC has said they comply with regulation 1.4 and 3.1.... so they are from the right country and they are not pregnant. Great.. no mention in those sections about sex or testosterone... or even identity...

olympics.com/athlete365/app/uploads/2023/04/PARIS-2024-BOXING-UNIT-EVENT-REGULATIONS-VERSION-1.0.pdf

They can't be pregnant they are male.

From the article:

"In a public statementt, the IBA wrote that “a boxer from Algeria, Imane Khelif, was excluded from the IBA World Boxing Championships due to the failure to meet the IBA eligibility criteria.” But the Algerian Olympic Committeee denied the IBA’s claims, attributing Khelif’s disqualification to a “conspiracy” to prevent Algeria from having a gold medal in boxing.

While they vaguely alluded to Khelif being struck for “medical reasons” surrounding high testosterone levels, they added that they would be supporting Khelif’s journeyy_ to the 2024 Paris Olympics regardless.
But following the controversial disqualification, a female boxer came forward to discuss her experience fighting Khelif in the ring at the championship.
“When I fought with her I felt very out of my depth,” Mexican boxer Brianda Tamara wrote on X. “Her blows hurt me a lot, I don’t think I had ever felt like that in my 13 years as a boxer, nor in my sparring with men. Thank God that day I got out of the ring safely, and it’s good that they finally realized,” Tamara said."

This should never have happened.

Normally, when you're sparring against a guy, they hold back. They do their best not to hurt you (while trying to hit anywhere but the boobs!).

These guys are not holding back. Says alot about them really.

Here is the IOC’s spokesman Mark Adams ⁦being questioned by Sean Ingle from the Guardian. Well worth watching the clip to see the moral bankruptcy of these people.

Before this statement he says it would be ‘invidious’ and ‘unfair’ on the male boxers in the women’s category to comment on them individually.

Adams said that the two boxers in question were designated as female on their passports. SO WHAT?

Adams then said that the boxers had competed as female previously. Again, SO WHAT?

Thirdly he argues it's 'incredibly complex'. NO IT REALLY ISN'T.

Fourthly he says that going through male puberty doesn't necessarily give an advantage. IN BOXING!!

Just watch his face in the clip. He knows it's bollox, he knows it's wrong. My contempt for these people knows no bounds.

"Compete as women" A phrase never uttered or required when talking about actual women.

lcakethereforeIam · 30/07/2024 14:01

As I understand it the Federation for boxing did make a decision, that wasn't fair and it wasn't safe. This mean these two m...competitors weren't eligible. The IBA has been suspended for, as far as i know, reasons that have nothing to do with trans, gender or DSDs. The rules then defaulted back to the obsolete IOC ones, which has caused this situation.

Edited to add

And 'woman' or even 'female' means sweet FA thanks to self ID, GRCs and the myriad other ways employed to stop men feeling sad.

ChateauMargaux · 30/07/2024 14:06

Of course they are not pregnant... I was trying to point out the ludicrousness of the IOC saying they had complied with regulations.. when those regulations make no mention of sex / gender / testosterone.

kiterunning · 30/07/2024 14:25

I've also messaged the IOC asking for confirmation that no athlete with xy chromosomes will be competing in the female boxing.
I mentioned insurance...

duc748 · 30/07/2024 14:31

Just read the Guardian piece from yesterday. The comparison with the Telegraph is marked. The Graun appears to be drawing attention to the dodgy (?) bona fides of the IBA, as if to cast shade on the idea that the two are male. Sean Ingle a lot less forthright there. Maybe criticism of the IBA is justified, but either way, surely it's possible for the facts to be brought into the light?

What an utter load of fucking bullshit he spouts.

Morally bankrupt, yes absolutely.

It just makes people watching womens sport just wondering if they are watching actual women

watching the rugby 7.s at moment

when people like mark Adam’s just gaslight all women and girls

and the women who missed out in a chance to be Olympians ☹️☹️

Lin is expected to face an unnamed opponent in the 57kg category on Friday.

Any chance it will be another woMAN, I wonder?

I do not believe that even pre-pubertal boys and girls have the equal strengths. I suspect that has just been largely
assumed.

UpThePankhurst · 30/07/2024 14:43

The only way that anyone can try to defend this is by lying and lying and lying.

Deceiving themselves, deceiving everyone else, frantically trying to pretend that things are something other than they really are.

Which is that they are enabling a man who wants to, to go and batter a woman, and risk her dying in their gratification of his ego.

BlossomToLeaves · 30/07/2024 14:59

OldCrone · 30/07/2024 00:42

According to the article in the Times, neither of them claim to be transgender or to have a DSD.

They seem to be just ordinary men who like the idea of competing against women because this gives them a better chance of winning.

I don't understand this though - how are they claiming to be women or to be eligible to fight as women, if they aren't claiming to be either transgender or have a DSD? I get that someone has somewhere recorded F in their passports, but that must either have been for a reason, or some mistake, which would have been rectified otherwise if they weren't trying to claim one of those things?

What is the 'official' justification then?

I do hope someone is going to ask our Minister for Culture, Media and Sport whether she still believes the issue should be left to sporting bodies to deal with.
She was tweeting prolifically about the Olympics until a couple of days ago.

Edited

I was thinking that and Annelise Dodds.

I've just heard the Committee Chair for Culture Media and Sport will be a Conservative. Hope they play this card well, whoever they are.

This is dangerous.

Letting men punch women in the head as hard as they can?

Someone's going to get killed.
