TWO “Female Boxers” Set To Compete At Paris 2024 Were Previously Disqualified From Women’s World Championship For Having “XY Chromosomes”

Surely this cannot be true. In boxing of all sports. I thought boxing had told men they needed to compete with other men?

”Two athletes competing at the Paris Olympics as “women” were previously disqualified from a women’s world championship for having “XY chromosomes.” Imane Khelif of Algeria and Lin Yu-Ting of Taiwan are scheduled to compete in Olympic women’s boxing next week despite past questions surrounding their biological sex.”

so if either of these two fucking cheats seriously injure, or worse, their opponents, who takes the rap for that?

IOC, as I've just reminded them.

It is possible I suppose that these two individuals have CAIS, which is one DSD that some at least think should be allowed within female events.

The IOC has also been getting X/Twitter to remove images of the opening ceremony, citing "copyright". They must think we are stupid. They don't like people criticising what they thought was appropriate vs what the public thought and the public reaction. People are sick of being told they didn't see what they saw and they can't discuss it.

If enough people write and complain they would be disabused of that notion
Or at least there would be the receipts in our screen shot ;)

Is that the pictures of the man exposing himself next to the kid? Surprised not to see more mention of it.

Looking at them I doubt it. From what I’ve read those with CAIS are phenotypically female because their bodies are unable to utilise testosterone. These guys look nothing like women.

@Signalbox I agree. I'm just acknowledging that the IOC has learned from the published details of a ruling applying to Caster Semenya. Sadly I think they've learned the wrong things. I would have liked them to learn to maintain individual medical privacy while setting rules that keep women's sport for women. Instead they seem to have learned to make loopholes for male athletes to qualify into women's Olympic places, while refusing to share any information at all.

According to the article in the Times, neither of them claim to be transgender or to have a DSD.

They seem to be just ordinary men who like the idea of competing against women because this gives them a better chance of winning.

Well we know who is going to be in the finals already.

lcakethereforeIam · 30/07/2024 09:37

Thorough article in the Telegraph

www.telegraph.co.uk/olympics/2024/07/30/boxing-sex-gender-imane-khelif-lin-yu-ting-paris-2024/

https://archive.ph/20v5s doesn't pull any punches

Quotes Dr Emma Hilton. Tells readers that Semenya is male and the Rio Olympic shame. I'm not sure it's clear enough for everyone, but it's the clearest article I've read about it so far.

Their women opponents for not training hard enough, nor being dedicated iirc from other talking points from victores ludorum in football, cycling, and swimming events (NB: not victrices ludorum.)

this is a difficult watch for anyone who's ever been affected by domestic violence.

For a micro second I was wondering who was who. It didn't take any longer than that. The name on the jersey confirmed it but that was really over egging the pudding.

That clip reminded me how much I dislike boxing at the best of times.

SabrinaThwaite · 30/07/2024 11:04

I wonder if the BBC commentary team will say anything, assuming these fights go ahead?

misscockerspaniel · 30/07/2024 11:06

Any resident MRA/TRA who monitor FWR, care to comment?

duc748 · 30/07/2024 11:11

I can't believe it'll go ahead. The media coverage will multiply, it's such a bad look for the Olympics (not the main point, of course, but it's what they'll be thinking).

Thanks for this, Omlettes. Unbelievable that men punching women is now a recognised sport. So much for the big move towards ending MVAWG.

That's a point. Has Jess Phillips commented yet?

Glorifying and publicising it, even in controlled contexts likes sports and the Olympics, undermines the "VAWG is a global public health problem and a violation of human rights" rhetoric from many agencies.

I doubt it. Watching the live streaming from the ABC from the Matildas vs Zambia game, it was all celebrating Banda as an outstanding female footballer. I imagine that it will be same for these athletes in boxing.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 30/07/2024 11:51

That's an excellent Telegraph piece. Agree it's the clearest.

I'd applaud celebrating an outstanding transwoman footballer - with debate about whether they should be playing with women's teams.

But to call them a female football player is just pure straight forward lying and gaslighting. It's ridiculous. He is a man, and frankly it now needs saying very, very plainly because too much enabling and sensitivity has led to the piss being taken to extremes by men to the detriment of women and society in general.

Quite. VAWG is naughty and unacceptable, unless the man says some magic words first.

Then it's lovely and lets celebrate him.

And even the Telegraph article skirts that final figleaf. It's not a case of 'someone could be killed', it's a case that a WOMAN could be killed. By a man. Because a man's feelings mattered more to the organisers than a woman's potential death did.
