FFS disability is now on the pride flag

I'm livid. I'm disabled and I do not want to be represented on the LGBTQ+ flag.

Also this quote: Dayna Halliwell (she/her), Content and Engagement Manager at Evenbreak, led the collaboration and organised the Pride visit. She said: “It was very moving and amazing to see the reaction of disabled people in the audience. You could see the joy on their faces of being represented in the parade.”

I don’t understand why the rainbow doesn’t already include disabled gay people. Does adding disabled people mean they weren’t included before?

The rainbow is almost completely covered over now 🙄

Gemmy96 · 16/07/2024 09:21

Surely to God there are more important things to worry about

Because disability and LGBTQ are completely different things. It would be like having a flag for disabled people and vegetarians.

Also I don't feel like celebrating my disability most of the time.

LGB and TQ are different things too. The former are sexual identities and the latter are gender identities which are not the same at all.

MotherofChaosandDestruction · 16/07/2024 09:22

It's just a bit weird. Pride specifically is about LGB (and later T) rights - it was to ensure gay rights were celebrated, surely it's diluting the message. It's not about equality for everyone, it's about equality for gay people.

I understand intersectionality but you don't need to add something to a flag for a load of people who don't fit into the specific group in the first place. Surely you just try and advocate for disabled gay people?

Garlickest · 16/07/2024 09:23

Oh, bloody hell, now I don't know if I'm included in the inclusivity for being disabled, not-included for being a 'cis' white heterosexual, or excluded for being a terf 🤔

Have they included or excluded old people yet? That could clarify my inclusivity status! Or not.

They’d say they’re being inclusive etc but to me they’re just trying to get the numbers up and feel like their power is further reaching. They are a gay/trans rights group. They don’t know enough about disability to advocate for it.

horseymum · 16/07/2024 09:24

There is a separate disability pride flag which is not sexuality but celebrating disability. I appreciate not everyone wants to celebrate their disability, but some people do. I had to get my work to change their FB pic from the standard pride flag for disability pride month as they hadn't clocked the difference. I'm neither gay nor disabled but I think the disabled bit in the flag is for gay disabled people but I agree, does this mean they weren't welcome before? Who else has been missed out?

BlackeyedSusan · 16/07/2024 09:24

You can't see much rainbow, it's almost like they are trying to cover up gay people.

Disabled and don't want to be associated with this ablist shit that is intent on sterilising autistic girls

RainWithSunnySpells · 16/07/2024 09:25

I one saw a piss take that someone had done of how the Pride flag might look in the future. It even had the McDonalds logo and Rick Astley (Rickrolling) on it.

horseymum · 16/07/2024 09:26

If you're disabled and white hetrosexual, you're excluded I think!

Myalternate · 16/07/2024 09:26

So, which demographic are excluded?

CervixSampler · 16/07/2024 09:27

Fuck that shit. Neither my disabled mum nor I want any part of that. It's not part of our identity. The flag is basically a dulux colour chart of meaningless shades of nonsense with only 3 actual recognisable colours that anyone knows what they are (LGB) with any certainty. It might as well be called an everyone flag and it will lose any meaning whatsoever.

needsomewarmsunshine · 16/07/2024 09:27

Over hyped and totally stupid now, I support Pride [2 dc] but there is a limit.

CatMumSlave · 16/07/2024 09:27

@SonicTheHodgeheg

This is what I don't get. Why group them all?

horseymum · 16/07/2024 09:27

If only so much effort was made to make things accessible for disabled people ( whether gay or not), that would make a massive difference to a huge number of people.

Garlickest · 16/07/2024 09:31

"a disability-inclusive version of Valentino’s Inclusive Pride flag to represent LGBTIQA+ disabled people."

Aha! So this new token is really for trans people with disabilities. No doubt front-loading the transabled grifters, for whom disability is an identitee and are thus more disabled than disabled people.

Foxesandsquirrels · 16/07/2024 09:31

That flag is ridiculously busy looking. This is starting to feel like satire. Or an episode of south park

Agapornis · 16/07/2024 09:32

It's a disability job board that came up with an advertising gimmick.

I was at London Pride, no one else was carrying this flag.

SonicTheHodgeheg · 16/07/2024 09:34

horseymum · 16/07/2024 09:26

Call yourself a lesbian transwoman and you will be fine.

Gingernaut · 16/07/2024 09:34

JohnnyAndTheDead · 16/07/2024 09:03

Why not?

Because PRIDE is about SEXUALITY, not disabilities

It's like going back to the days when guys and lesbian were considered sick in some way

Pride has been taken over by perverts and fetishists, some of whom have perversions about sex with sick, disabled and mentally ill people and this looks like a slow burn way to 'fight' for the right to have sex with people who are simply trying to live a life free from discrimination and may not be able to give consent to sex

What next dogs? Farm animals? Sea creatures?

DoIWantTo · 16/07/2024 09:34

I don’t want representation on the pride flag for being disabled, my disability has jack shit to do with sexuality.

TemuSpecialBuy · 16/07/2024 09:35

Such bullshit

they are trying to put as many legitimate groups under one banner so if you have anything non positive to say about AGP perverts then it means you hate disabled people, and are inflicting LITERAL VIOLENCE against them and want them to die / be “unalive”
🙄🙄🙄

agree it’s literally become a south park episode

god help us all

Also think of the good that the money and time they wasted on this nonsense could have done.

Disabled and gay, and personally think it’s fab.

Why do you think it is 'fab'?
