Im not a mum. I just went into the public toilet (to put up some single sex signs lol) and as I approached a man was just about to enter with a baby, I said excuse me I dont think you are allowed to use the ladies, he replied, pointing at the baby change sign, you can go in first if you like, I repeated, I dont think you can use the ladies, when I came out he had gone. Spouse said Im wrong, he’s allowed. googled and cannot see an answer?

Reported me for what? I've done nothing wrong on this thread.

As for "bored A-level student", I've been here since 2018.

I was of the understanding baby/family changing facilities are for the use of either parent. Or do people think fathers never go out with their children without the mother being present?

This.
Dad's take their baby out too, they need baby changing facilities available to them too
If someone finds it's only in the women's when they're out, then no wonder they have to use that.
Not seen that though, they're usually separate and unisex.

My 18yr old thinks I'm daft for telling him not to immerse himself in his headphones when he comes home on the train in the early hours of the morning - some people perceive risk differently whether that be by socialisation or experience.

Better to learn by other peoples' mistakes than your own, better still to have the opportunity to learn from that mistake.

In the last few years I've been to two places which were challenging re baby changing.

First RSPB no changing facilities in the ladies bar the floor which was absolutely swimming in something.

Second a nice restaurant no changing facilities at all so I nipped into their snooker room and changed him on the table there

SilenceInside · 15/07/2024 13:44

"If someone finds it's only in the women's when they're out, then no wonder they have to use that."

No, they don't have to use that. If, for some unknown reason, the only baby change was in the men's toilets, I wouldn't use it. Then I'd complain to the management of the facility about the lack of a separate baby change.

Most places these days have got a separate baby change that's not in either toilet, or in addition to one in the women's. I would imagine that places that still have them only in the women's loos either haven't got the space or money to add another one that's available to men, or they are particularly old-fashioned/unthinking.

It actually happened. He was on LiveJournal as "ohbutyouwillpet" and I had a LiveJournal at the time and I remember it being all over LJ.

As a snooker fan, and knowing how precious snooker venues are about tables, I approve of this direct action.

It’s a sad thing when a father with a baby is perceived to be a predator. Those of us with sons or husbands in this position ought to have a bit more empathy.

I have both a son and husband and they'd get an earful if I found out they'd been in a female toilet to change a baby rather than using their nouse to come up with a better alternative.

I promise we had a changing mat and didn't make a mess. I know replacing the felt is very expensive.

I spent an entire adult working life working with survivors of sexual assault. Some women were abusers, but the vast majority were men, the majority of the survivors were female. The lengths that some of these men will go to, to offend, will surprise some, however the planning and anticipation is often part of what gets these men off. I'm sure some would relish taking a baby girl into the ladies to change her nappy, so many boundaries to breach, all in one go!

Where do they hire these babies from?

It would serve the venue right for not providing a changing table if there had been a poonami all over the felt.

They are usually quite capable of procreation.

Where did John Lockhart get the four month old girl he raped from?

Stepkids, their own kids, relative's kids...

Coughsweet · 15/07/2024 13:54

Where does this happen? I thought everywhere had to provide a disabled toilet and IME most of the time that’s where the baby changing is. I don’t think I have ever seen anywhere where the was baby changing in the women’s toilets and none in the disabled toilets.

Also they will target single mothers to gain access to children, it is a known method of accessing children. Our they will work or volunteer in nurseries etc.

They must be busy procreating every couple of years to have a baby on tap.

So they remove these babies from nurseries so that they can get access to women's toilets?

Flumpie59 · 15/07/2024 14:02

I'm female and I say as long as he had a baby with him and if there was no baby changer in the gents then let him in the women's loos.

At least he was trying to be a good dad by attempting to change the baby stuff instead of expecting his partner to do it!

I used to be a cleaner and always allowed men with babies in the women's unit or men with disabilities if there was no suitable changer/men's facilities.

TeabySea · 15/07/2024 14:03

Topofthemountain · 14/07/2024 10:58

Where was he supposed to change the baby?

There either needs to be a separate facility or a set up in the men's. I don't think there is an allowed / not allowed thing but it is the one time when it is shit to be a Dad out with a baby / toddler.

Absolutely.
Mem and women have children, both are able to do childcare. There should be facilities for both parents. Nappy changing isn't a solely female responsibility and shops, cafes etc need to make adequate provision.

If there isn't a changing table in the men's, I don't see what other reasonable option this father had, at that time.
It isn't ideal that he has to use the women's toilets, but in the circumstances I see why he did, and wouldn't have a problem.

I repeat: Realistically, the question shouldn't be "is there a publicised instance of men using X to facilitate rape?", given how few rapes are ever reported. The question should be "what stops a man from using X to facilitate rape?".

They don't need to if new GF has a newborn, just offer to take stepkid out for the afternoon.
