How did I assume that? I asked whether you’d have any objection. It’s a simple question.

Mmm hmm

No I would have no problem with it. I wouldn't agree with it, I might smile if I saw someone had stuck an adult human female sticker nearby it, but I certainly wouldn't go moaning and raising a fuss about it.

The same way I don't have a problem with people standing on street corners preaching. I fundamentally disagree with what they are doing but I don't raise a fuss or try to stop them. Because free speech is free speech.

OvaHere · 03/06/2024 22:18

Just a really basic example I can't set up a tv, I can't learn programming, I can't open up my PC and fix my pulled wire, and it's because I'm a woman

It's really not.* *🙄

MrsJackThornton · 03/06/2024 22:24

Tbf I do sometimes wonder if one of my male colleagues codes by wanging his willy all over the keyboard in the hope that it will work, his coding is dire!

So maybe I have been doing it all wrong with my silly girly brain all this time

RockaLock · 03/06/2024 22:25

If the topper had said something like "Paula Vennells for PM!" then they might have a point, that would seem to be not in the spirit of a postbox topper.

But this one? Well done that crocheter!

MarieDeGournay · 03/06/2024 22:31

Delphin · 03/06/2024 21:10

Not a topper, but what about a knitted flag line between lamp posts as a replacement? You just have to hope that not many people speak "Navy" 😎

Clever, v cleverWink but that's one heck of a lot of needlework, isn't it?!

Intimidated by ribbons and yarn crafts, how do these people get through life?

🤣

I think @iamreallyabee 's point was that these are things some women incorrectly believe they can't do because they are women, as opposed to there being things women correctly believe they can't do because they are women, like break men's sports records. I don't think she was genuinely suggesting she can't code because she's a woman! (At least I hope not).

Although I do now want a Turing complete sweater.

JanesLittleGirl · 03/06/2024 22:43

My DM knits. My MIL crochets. I drink gin.

I've been thinking about this for a few years, and I really don't know if they are in a sense or not, because I think we can't really know how other people feel. Transwomen have told us, that they just always felt like they were a woman, and it's hard to understand but if you take it at face value it could be possible that in some way they just are, and they just are in the wrong body somehow.

As in maybe we need to take crude bodies out of it to understand and entertain the possibility that a woman can be something else, like an essence. I haven't really made my mind up about this but I've always had this feeling about it.

I think the major inequity women face is that having children affects our incomes unfairly compared to men, and transwomen aren't having this problem but I suspect they are also a group that suffers the same result

Edited

No.

Just no. Sorry. There is no way a male can ‘know’ what they are feeling is ‘how a woman feels’. They can only feel how they feel. As a male person. And they will then use either stereotypes or the lack of them ‘feeling like a man’ to declare that that must be what a ‘woman’ feels.

There is no magic essence of being a woman. At all.

Only a misogynists view of what THEY describe a ‘woman’ is. It is always only that. It is them describing what the word ‘woman’ means using their opinion. It can never be from real life experience.

I think women are unjustly treated but it's all being focused into this one issue

https://terfisaslur.com/

TERF is a slur

Documenting the abuse, harassment and misogyny of transgender identity politics

AstonScrapingsNameChange · 03/06/2024 23:15

Here are lots of examples of it never happening.

It's crochet.

The creator should complain about this egregious mis-crafting.

😂😂😂😂

Christinapple · 03/06/2024 23:27

Feels inappropriate to wait until Pride month to do this tbh

AstonScrapingsNameChange · 03/06/2024 23:37

But it's always pride month/trans history month/, day of remembrance, etc etc etc.

They have more holy days than the Catholic church!

The yarn bomber may not even have known about pride - its not on everyone's calendar.

Meanwhile women get one poxy day (oh and women's history month which struggles to get any traction. (My local 6th firm college posted about pronouns relentlessly throughout women's history month. Nothing about women's history month though).

What if the postbox topper had said "lesbian = female homosexual", would that have been inappropriate for Pride month?

Helleofabore · 03/06/2024 23:42

I don’t remember any extreme trans activists respecting female people or female people’s boundaries on IWD?

AstonScrapingsNameChange · 03/06/2024 23:14

Really horrible stuff. The worst aspects of "social media" ... nasty, bullying, violent, hateful images, cruel and vindictive words. Threats to kill.

I know it's there but I really dislike seeing it. So hard to unsee.

We have arrived in the era of George Orwell's "1984" - "Big Brother, and thoughtcrime and Newspeak and the memory hole and the torture palace called the Ministry of Love, and the discouraging spectacle of a boot grinding into the human face forever." (quoted from an article by Margaret Atwood on reading Brave New World)

SO thank goodness for a fervent discussion about postbox toppers! Sense of humour urgently needed. It's banned in the hideous faux-underworld of the TERF hating troll-army.

If you grind my postbox topper into the mud with your boot, I will still remember it. Ha!

Buggered if I know.

Hopefully someone will be along to explain before the toaster launches my breakfast into the porch,

Theunbearablelightnessofbeing · 04/06/2024 08:46

Interesting how it is instantly assumed its removal is politically motivated/ preventing intolerance rather than just being nicked to sell.

The postbox toppers locally to me have been pinched a few times when connected to Royal events or war remembrance days and always people think it happened because people want to sell the toppers. Never ever suggested these are politically motivated which seems more likely. I mean what are you doing to do with a postbox topper? A bed for your cat? A toilet seat cover? An oversized beret?

It could well end up on eBay if there is in fact an underground market for postbox toppers.

iamreallyabee · 04/06/2024 09:02

AstonScrapingsNameChange · 03/06/2024 23:14

Wow, never seen this stuff before

misscockerspaniel · 04/06/2024 09:16

To the pp, there is nothing crude about my body but you have got me thinking about "essence". What is the essence of a man? Pheromones, perhaps, or may be a stonking sense of male entitlement or a huge ego or the waft of mansplaining.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 04/06/2024 09:28

I really thought we’d got past all this shite.

Where is Monty Python when you need them. I can visualise a sketch of a TW approaching a post box to post a letter ……….

Take the 'crude' bodies out to release the 'essence'?

How are you going to do that then? As long as I am alive I will inhabit this crude body. The only thing that will separate my 'essence' if I have such a thing, or my 'immortal soul' if I have one of those, is to kill that body.

Is that what you think should be done to women's bodies in order to let men enjoy their essences unchallenged?

I'd sooner be permitted to continue to inhabit that body, crude and all as it is. I'm even quite attached to my achy knees. And I will resist any attempt to oppress me, harrass me, deny my rights, diminish my voice that is predicated on this sort of crude body being a sign that I am less human than people whose crude bodies have a Y chromosome.
