NHS challenged by women forced to share changing room with transwoman

The Daily Mail reporting on a group of 36 nurses complaining that they're forced to share an open plan changing room with a man who claims to be a woman, behaves inappropriately, is sexually active (trying for a baby with his partner) yet is given access to women undressing as he claims to be trans.
Following two formal written complaints where the response was that they needed to be be "more inclusive', 'broaden their mindset' and 'be educated and attend training" six of the nurses are now going to an employment tribunal claiming sexual harassment and sexual discrimination.
Note the article uses he pronouns.

Nurses made to share changing room with trans colleague to sue NHS

In a formal complaint, the nurses say they were stunned after the 'sexually active' trans nurse admitted to trying for a baby with a female partner and had stopped taking female hormones.

I believe (though really, who knows?) it means a space without cis men in it, because cis men are the violent ones & anyone who identifies as a woman is not violent. This is an argument I've seen used in the last couple of years.

OTOH I've also seen this: women are just as violent as men, so it doesn't matter who goes into women's toilets.

Make it make sense. (Hint: it doesn't.)

It does if you think women are being violent by disagreeing (with men)

StickItInTheFamilyAlbum · 26/06/2024 13:45

Labour are in thrall to an abusers charter.

Thank goodness Labour doesn't have a history of that. If you set aside Harman and NCCL. And the CSA scandals of Islington and Lambeth. And…And…

No political party has a clean bill of health here but I'd welcome some acknowledgement from Labour of the times when Labour has been driven by ideology at vast cost to vulnerable populations like children.

Safeguarding matters, in and of itself.

Nice to see Janice Forsyth tweeting in support of this. (BBC Scotland radio presenter for the uninitiated)

Yes, she's reposted quite a few gender critical tweets/articles over the last few years, usually without comment. Reckon she's been peaked, but understandably wants to avoid being burned at the stake.

GailBlancheViola · 26/06/2024 14:13

I am guessing Starmer is staying quiet on this as this man is obviously one of those 'women' who have a penis that he believes exist.

PowerTulle · 26/06/2024 14:36

Also Wes, your vague notion of ‘safe spaces’ (definition tbc), still does not meet women’s very reasonable requirement for privacy and dignity. Women not being attacked or not fearing assault at work is a pretty low bar to start from.

I want to change in a same sex environment at work. And I don’t care if that makes male nurses feel sad and say I’m a big old meany pants.

Exactly. Single sex spaces are for privacy, dignity & safety. It's a basic social right & requirement. That this should be questioned or changed is ridiculous. Give women their single sex spaces & facilities, & then set up anything else you like, in addition.

I do hope thoes nurses didn't subject their vulnerable patients to the Annex B insanity that they themselves will not tolerate. My hope is likely futile. Very much a case of rules for thee, but not for me, I suspect. 🤔

You missed off the argument that goes, "It doesn't matter whether we allow men into women's spaces, because abusers will go in anyway." (Hint: only very rarely, and in the past we would have been able to get support from other female users, staff, police to get them out or get them prosecuted. Now we just get told these males have every right to be there.)

Nurses didn't make these rules. Many twist themselves into pretzels trying to follow Annex B and still protect their other patients.

Well said.

Funny how no-one seems to care if having to share with male bodied people makes women sad. Our identities and safety and comfort don't matter.

On Sky news now!

UtopiaPlanitia · 28/06/2024 14:04

@FigRollsAlly How did it go? I don’t have access to Sky at the mo so I thought I’d ask 😊

https://news.sky.com/story/nurses-suing-their-employer-for-allowing-trans-women-to-use-their-changing-rooms-13160104

This is an article from Sky News. TW Cleo Madeline seems to think people should just be more accepting.

So a bloke on a dress is scolding women because apparently having to share a changing room with a set of naked cock and balls ‘isn’t hurting anybody’

FigRollsAlly · 28/06/2024 14:26

On again now.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 28/06/2024 14:31

For anyone who doesn’t know who Cleo Madeline is

gendercriticalwoman.blog/category/cleo-madeleine/

UtopiaPlanitia · 28/06/2024 14:57

So Cleo Madeline’s solution is to have the nurses reeducated to not be afraid of a semi-naked man who the nurses have said has asked unpleasant questions and exhibited distressing behaviour in their female changing room?

Seems legit to me 🙄

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/06/2024 14:58

"Cleo" can FRO.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/06/2024 14:59

But I'm sure this segment was illuminating to some people who may not have looked too deeply at the issue.

FigRollsAlly · 28/06/2024 15:01

The article linked to by Justme56 is pretty much word for word what was said on the Sky News report but the impact of actually seeing the nurses talking about it is much greater than just reading about it. Cleo’s claims that it’s not hurting anyone also seems even more dishonest when seen like this.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 28/06/2024 19:21

It was good to see the women speaking but the Sky news clip was a bit disappointing for me because it didn't say that the nurses weren't just "feeling unsafe" about the mere presence of a transwoman they were complaining (as the Daily Mail makes clear) about being openly perved at. And the NHS said they needed re-education.

I have no words for Cleo Madeleine... except to note that Madeleine now makes a living out of "re-educating" people and organsations like the NHS.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 28/06/2024 20:10

There's another nurse in Scotland taking action against the NHS after being disciplined for complaining about being forced to undress alongside a man:

Sometimes I wonder what a man in a dress would actually have to do in a ladies changing room for TRAs to call the behaviour out.

Indeed. Especially as the trans captured police and labour appear to have decriminalised voyeurism and indecent exposure following demands from trans lobbyists

Anya Palmer's view on the tribunal won by the male NHS worker naked from the waist down in the female changing room:

This is really helpful on the issue of comparators in discrimination claims. Thank you.
