NHS challenged by women forced to share changing room with transwoman

The Daily Mail reporting on a group of 36 nurses complaining that they're forced to share an open plan changing room with a man who claims to be a woman, behaves inappropriately, is sexually active (trying for a baby with his partner) yet is given access to women undressing as he claims to be trans.
Following two formal written complaints where the response was that they needed to be be "more inclusive', 'broaden their mindset' and 'be educated and attend training" six of the nurses are now going to an employment tribunal claiming sexual harassment and sexual discrimination.
Note the article uses he pronouns.

Nurses made to share changing room with trans colleague to sue NHS

In a formal complaint, the nurses say they were stunned after the 'sexually active' trans nurse admitted to trying for a baby with a female partner and had stopped taking female hormones.

Usual places https://archive.is/p56Ez

A spokesman for County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust said: ‘The Trust would like to emphasise that at this stage the claims being made are allegations which need to be fully investigated and reviewed.
‘The Trust has initiated this through its internal processes and this work continues. However, as the allegations are now also subject to active legal action, it would not be appropriate for the Trust to comment further at this stage.’

Yeah, 26 ‘alleged’ signatures

Honestly reading that article again. How has “Rose” has not been suspended pending an investigation and reported to the NMC. Any other man behaving in this way to multiple nurses would be facing regulatory action of some sort. If nothing is done his behaviour will escalate and the hospital won’t be able to say they didn’t know.

Rightsraptor · 25/06/2024 08:52

But the NMC has swallowed the kool aid, @Signalbox. They'll be all for disciplining the women.

Well and truly on both counts.

They're set on destroying their profession sooner than not keep up with the latest ideology (almost wrote idolatry, don't think I was far wrong).

Wes Streeting comments specifically on this case. Still talking in terms of "safe spaces" though...

"Wes Streeting has said he is ‘horrified’ that a group of nurses in Darlington have been left feeling "threatened and intimidated" after launching a "landmark" employment tribunal case.

Yesterday, a group of five nurses from Darlington Memorial Hospital spoke publicly for the first time following the launch of a legal challenge against health trust chiefs over a trans woman being allowed to use female changing rooms.

Now, the former Shadow Health Secretary has said he is happy to meet the group of women, who are taking legal action against County Durham and Darlington Foundation Trust (CDDFT).

Mr Streeting added that the NHS has got to "find a way through through that treats trans people with respect and respects women’s safe spaces.”

[...]

Mr Streeting said: “I support the nurses and I’m horrified that they’ve had to resort to legal action. We’ve got to find a better way through this and I’d be happy to meet them. We’ve got to find a way through that treats trans people with respect and respects women’s safe spaces.”

In response to Mr Streeting, Bethany Hutchison, the spokesperson for the group, said: “We would be happy to meet with Mr Streeting to discuss what has happened to us and continues to happen to us and our colleagues on a daily basis. We also think Keir Starmer should join the conversation so that members of the public are clear on what his position is on this issue.

“Nurses are scared to put their heads above the parapet and speak out. We believe what is happening in Darlington is just the tip of the iceberg, not just in the NHS, but across public services and UK society.

“We are very thankful for and grateful for all the support we have received so far. We encourage women and anyone concerned about this issue to raise their voices now.”

It’s good he’s meeting them
but again I notice “safe spaces” not “single sex spaces”

we see you

Theydontknowaboutus · 25/06/2024 17:25

Very best of luck to these women - absolutely horrified that their safety and wellbeing has been compromised in this way.

I wonder if anyone in the Health Department has thought

"We have a recruitment and retention issue. Do we think that forcing women to share changing rooms with males, may make this worse".

Wes having a horrified moment is promising but why has Wes not thought this was a problem before?

It's not like he's new to the subject is it? (We know he was putting his penny's worth in since 2018.)

He has supposedly been reaching out to women's groups in recent months.

Why is only NOW when they've gone public (during an election campaign) that he's suddenly dropping a bollock with horror?

Anyone in the Shadow Cabinet doing due diligence on the implications of transwomen saying they have a right to share changing rooms when you got flipping self ID in your bloody manifesto.

I know the saying goes about being so liberal your brains fall out, but geez can someone disprove this cliché for once please?!

RedToothBrush · 25/06/2024 17:38

Abbreviated version of my above post:

Is Wes thick as mince or is he just a liar?

mrshoho · 25/06/2024 17:48

Why meet the nurses Wes? Shouldn't you be better off meeting the trans person and the NHS Trust to explain to them that single sex spaces are essential? Why make out the issue is because the female nurses are the issue?

maltravers · 25/06/2024 17:54

All this “I want to meet these women to talk” crap from both Streeting and Starmer. Yeah you chose a few days before the election so that there’s no chance of it influencing policy, it’s all about looking like you care (in time to get a few votes) but with the same crap outcome (budge up ladies for the TWs), only visible after the election because of your timing.

We’ve got to find a way through that treats trans people with respect and respects women’s safe spaces

In this scenario Wes, what has respect for trans people got to do with the price of fish? Or ‘safe spaces’ nonsense that Labour has invented? Neither factors are relevant here and I doubt your offer of a meeting will achieve anything useful.

We NEED single sex spaces. And everyone respect those spaces and behave respectfully to gender non conforming people in them.

Ramblingnamechanger · 26/06/2024 08:56

While he is at it, he could find out about how often single rooms are given to self identifying men instead of medically needy patients as outlined by a health worker at Let Women Speak in Brighton last weekend.

GailBlancheViola · 26/06/2024 09:54

Note which people come first in that statement. No man who wants women to strip off and change in front of them, questions them as to if they are changing, intimidates them and makes them feel uncomfortable deserves respect.

How about respect for the women Wes? How about respect for their safety, privacy, dignity and comfort? How about not forcing women to strip off in front of men? How about allowing women boundaries and the choice of who they strip off in front off? Why should women be denied that Wes?

All women's spaces should be 'safe' and single sex only, not difficult. The trans person needs to sort out alternative arrangements that do not impinge on that or just change with the members of their own sex and seek respect there.

Chersfrozenface · 26/06/2024 09:59

Annex B, Wes.

Sort it out.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 26/06/2024 10:37

You know how with toddler tantrums if you say no they eventually stop i do wonder if once a government stands firm for single sex spaces whether the numbers of trans people will drop as quickly as they have risen.

I'd love him to explain what's so disrespectful about telling people to use the facilities that correspond to their biological sex.

Starmers mother was a nurse.

Would he expect her to put up with this? I think he probably would.

dougalfromthemagicroundabout · 26/06/2024 11:44

Well women's spaces aren't safe if they're not single sex, so whilst they're trying to hoodwink us they're definitely not as clever as they think.

The population who commits sexual assault is still 98%+ male.

So the weasel words can stop. People aren't fucking idiots, although the Labour shadow cabinet appears to be.

Treating people as if they can't understand that 'safe spaces' and 'single sex spaces' aren't the same thing isn't going to win you votes. People don't like to be treated as if they're dimwits.

WickedSerious · 26/06/2024 11:11

It's not disrespectful, especially if there's even a third mixed sex space available but abusive, coercive men think it's disrespectful for any woman to ever say 'no' to them and to refuse to be used for validation or indeed whatever they want.

Labour are in thrall to an abusers charter.

lcakethereforeIam · 26/06/2024 12:28

What is a 'safe space' anyway?

lcakethereforeIam · 26/06/2024 12:28

What is a 'safe space' anyway?

I believe (though really, who knows?) it means a space without cis men in it, because cis men are the violent ones & anyone who identifies as a woman is not violent. This is an argument I've seen used in the last couple of years.

OTOH I've also seen this: women are just as violent as men, so it doesn't matter who goes into women's toilets.

Make it make sense. (Hint: it doesn't.)

Also his wife Victoria apparently works in OT for the NHS. I would love to ask him in public "Keir, do you feel comfortable with Victoria changing in front of biological Males whilst at work? Do you feel comfortable with her being in a space where Males are walking around exposing their genitals? Keir, have you asked Victoria how she feels as a women?" There shouldn't even need this discussion because it is so absurd but here we are.
