Eddie Izzard Interview in the Times

Written by the sports writer who wrote several comments in the Times over the years supporting transwomen in female sports, so no surprise there is no challenge (that I can see) to Izzard's bletherings:

Eddie Izzard: ‘Trans people going back in a shell? Won’t happen’

Eddie Izzard (also answers to Suzy) has migrated from stand-up comedy to serious acting, with solo performances of Great Expectations and Hamlet. But the role the 62-year-old really wants is to be the first trans member of parliament. Interview by Mart...

It’s quite astonishing what filters and makeup can do - to say nothing of photoshop and skilled photography.

I once saw a photo of a woman with body paint so beautifully and intricately done, she seemed to be part of the wall paper.

Brilliant photographers are amazing.

FrothyCothy · 25/05/2024 07:28

Ha, my first thought was also that photoshop was earning its licence fee there too.

Igneococcus · 25/05/2024 07:28

It's actually the first time I like something EI is wearing.

Filters and photoshop were my first thought too.

Signalbox · 25/05/2024 07:38

But the role the 62-year-old really wants is to be the first trans member of parliament.

That’s tough luck for him isn’t it because Jamie Wallace got there first. Since TW are the most marginalised and oppressed people on the planet you’d think that TM would have taken the lead on trans people in politics but for some reason TW dominate. I wonder why that is?

Nurber · 25/05/2024 07:38

‘Girl mode’

Would it be ok for me to dress as a man dressed as a woman and lower my voice and say I’m in trans mode? No, because it’s offensive and appropriating. Fuck off Eddie Izzard.

ThreeDimensional · 25/05/2024 07:39

Deary me 🤦🏼‍♀️

ditalini · 25/05/2024 07:44

I honestly don't think he keeps failing in politics because of transphobia.

I've never read an interview where he's expressed an opinion about anything other than himself. I've never read anyone saying anything about Eddie Izzard the great guy, nice man, really cares about x,y,z.

LizzieSiddal · 25/05/2024 07:44

I can’t get past the pictures which must be amongst the most edited in the history of The Photograph.

Igneococcus · 25/05/2024 07:46

I don't think in all my life have I sat in an armchair striking that pose with my hand under the chin gazing wistfully into the distance.

Haven't read the whole feature, and EI threads don't last long, but see a big chunk is dedicated, yet again, to Eddie saying pronouns don't matter and yet across the mainstream media I haven't seen a single interviewer go with this and call it as they see it.

Shaun Keaveny on his podcast this week is another recent offender. I can't believe for a second any of these people look at EI and believe there is a woman in front of them. Still they play the game.

If Eddie really doesn't care, I do wish someone would put it to the test.

EthnoBotanist · 25/05/2024 07:49

Compare these photos to the one the Princess of Wales posted and the indignant fuss that caused.

Maybe you’ve just never been in ‘girl mode’ 😂😂😂

Igneococcus · 25/05/2024 08:02

Clearly not @Nurber . Am I missing out?

This. I was a massive Remainer, but he just used to make me cringe when he appeared on any political programme. Patronising and self-absorbed.

And like Stephen Fry, ‘a stupid person’s idea of what a clever person is’

BackToLurk · 25/05/2024 08:04

To be fair to Eddie though, these types of spreads do enjoy putting the subjects in ridiculous poses.

I don’t know because I’m a woman and have never felt the need to activate a mode in my life ever. 😂😂😂

Woebegoing · 25/05/2024 08:04

Eddie is almost laughably narcissistic. What a strange and discomforting oddball. I also find EI creepy as hell and would hate to be in an enclosed space with Big Ed.

AsTreesWalking · 25/05/2024 08:05

Talking about his pleasure at getting good reviews for Gertrude and Ophelia particularly, Izzard says:
"As a trans person [this] matters to me a lot, honouring the women as well as the men. We do grow up in Britain with this pantomime dame where women are portrayed in these big clumpy boots, like the Ugly Sisters. That's not the essence of a woman. I'm working very hard, trying to do female characters so people don't need signposts."
"Essence of a woman" - stay away from those boots, Sisters!

AGodawfulsmallaffair · 25/05/2024 08:05

He sure as hell didn’t look like that on Sunday Brunch last week. He looked fucking awful.

I daresay he literally has the balls to say no though. I expect he adored every second of that shoot. Sympathy for the unfortunate make up artist.

The insinuation that this man is somehow helping us women Jesus.

You're clearly doing womaning all wrong!

I'm very glad that most people's first thought was 'Photoshopped', as was mine!

ArtG · 25/05/2024 08:11

Very revisionist view of his coming out. What happened to “I don’t wear women’s clothes, I wear my clothes”? Also, if he thought transvestite was the wrong term why did he use it? Why not ‘transsexual’ which was current at the time? Because he’s a bandwagon-jumping fraud.
