Eddie Izzard Interview in the Times

Igneococcus · 25/05/2024 07:18

Written by the sports writer who wrote several comments in the Times over the years supporting transwomen in female sports, so no surprise there is no challenge (that I can see) to Izzard's bletherings:

Eddie Izzard: ‘Trans people going back in a shell? Won’t happen’

Eddie Izzard (also answers to Suzy) has migrated from stand-up comedy to serious acting, with solo performances of Great Expectations and Hamlet. But the role the 62-year-old really wants is to be the first trans member of parliament. Interview by Mart...

🙄
I think people that can't answer a simple question have zero credibility 🤷‍♀️

See above.

So to be clear - you think Eddie Izzard is a sexual predator of women and children? Because that’s what you’re really saying. Ooof, brave words then surely?

For me to be clear - I absolutely do not think that. Nor would I have the slightest issue sharing loos, changing rooms, wherever with Eddie Izzard. I would welcome the chance to have an intelligent conversation while hand washing! In German, if he preferred. And maybe exchange notes about nail colours while we’re at it.

Clear enough?

How about you responding to my comment re the immature bitchiness trivialising any intellectual debate?

So to be clear, any man who isn’t thought to be a sexual predator should be in female only spaces. I presume you know some men. Are they all sexual predators or should they be allowed in female- only space?

Eddie izzard is a man

he doesn’t belong in women’s toilets or changing rooms or any of women’s single sex spaces because he’s a man

my DH is lovely & not a sexual predator - is it ok for him to come into women’s single sex spaces? If not, why not?

You presume I know some men? Ok then. Lowest form of wit arrives.

I see you’ve avoided the question though. Well done.

So to be clear, you think my dad, my 17 year old son, Rishi Sunak, that guy who reads the news, King Charles 3, Harrison Ford, Monty Don are all sexual predators of women and children...

...or do you just think all toilets should be mixed sex and privacy and safeguarding are just silly nonsense?

Shall we abolish criminal record checks for people who work with children and vulnerable adults since basic safeguarding is so abhorrent to you - most men aren't predators remember!

Seems all a bit extreme since Izzard could quite happily use the gents and no doubt mostly does.

Does your DH identify as a woman at all? If not, that would be a little unusual I think.

Talking about his pleasure at getting good reviews for Gertrude and Ophelia particularly, Izzard says:
"As a trans person [this] matters to me a lot, honouring the women as well as the men. We do grow up in Britain with this pantomime dame where women are portrayed in these big clumpy boots, like the Ugly Sisters. That's not the essence of a woman. I'm working very hard, trying to do female characters so people don't need signposts."
"Essence of a woman" - stay away from those boots, Sisters!

He is literally comparing his performances of female characters with pantomime dames though.
I'm not sure he thought that one through. 🤣

I’m saying YOU think any “biologically born” man identifying as female must all potentially be predators. Specifically in this case you are discussing on here, Eddie Izzard. Otherwise what’s the problem?

Don’t twist my words.

And the only reason my DH shouldn’t be in women’s single sex spaces is because he hasn’t said the magic words “I’m a woman”

A friend dragged me to an Eddie izzard gig and it was one of the poorest attempts at comedy I’ve ever seen. The audience roared laughing when he said things such as ‘bat bat’, while I sat there wondering what the hell I was watching.

Then he started a political tirade that went on for about 15 minutes and had everyone applauding. Bore off Izzard.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 25/05/2024 14:02

You see I have been to see EI loads of times over 20 years and he was hilarious. I have never laughed as much at anything as I did at Definite Article

haven’t seen him for about 12 years now though

Is nail polish what qualifies Eddie to be in female spaces?

I'm not twisting anything. Either it's ok for a man to use the women's toilets because most men aren't sexual predators, or it's not.

Trying to carve out an exception for this man because you like his comedy, and suggesting women objecting are suggesting that this man specifically is a predator is just bad logic.

We don't know who the predator is. We don't make exceptions for sacred castes as that never goes well for vulnerable people.

Pointing out obvious photoshopping (aka lying) is not "bitchiness".

Fuck! Is it not ladylike to point out that a bloke in a dress has no place in a women's loo? Does this mean that I am a man now?

Only if he discusses it with the cool girls whilst he's there.

Tell me you're a man imagining what it's like in a ladies toilet without actually telling me you're a man!

Discussing nail colours while washing our hands in a public toilet! Probably while we lend each other sanitary products!!

My apologies poster but I am genuinely laughing out loud at your post!!

Just on EI deserving to be in them ladies because he 'identifies as a woman'. What he has actually said AFAIK is that he is in 'girl mode'. I think he's claimed girl and bit genes. He doesn't apparently care of you call him Eddie or Suzy or use she or he. That doesn't sound like a woman to me. Gender fluid possibly (or bollocks if you're less charitable). It seems Eddie wants his cake and to piss in the ladies.

borntobequiet · 25/05/2024 14:10

The choice of the name Suzy always perplexed me, why not Edie?

It’s very much a phone box “tart card” name (unfortunately, because it’s a pretty name) and Izzard is of a generation who would find that exciting.
