Eddie Izzard Interview in the Times

Written by the sports writer who wrote several comments in the Times over the years supporting transwomen in female sports, so no surprise there is no challenge (that I can see) to Izzard's bletherings:

Eddie Izzard: ‘Trans people going back in a shell? Won’t happen’

Eddie Izzard (also answers to Suzy) has migrated from stand-up comedy to serious acting, with solo performances of Great Expectations and Hamlet. But the role the 62-year-old really wants is to be the first trans member of parliament. Interview by Mart...

Thankfully despite being a legend in his own head, whenever he has stood for election, the electorate have seen right through his disingenuous bullshit. Everywhere he has stood is 'close to his heart' and 'His favourite place to be' yadda yadda.
Even Brighton weren't having it, and that's saying something

Read the interview.
The "essence of a woman" comment was misguided.
The political ambitions I don't believe will ever be realised.
The choice of the name Suzy always perplexed me, why not Edie?
The doing all the roles schtick, whilst showing undeniable talent, always irks me.
Doing any play with a limited number of actors is always harder to follow. One person talking to themselves, switching voices/positions, not for me.
The photos, however, are the best I've ever seen them look - filtered or not.
I do not find them attractive anymore though. I used to, circa United States of Tara era.

I think Suzy is the name of his dead friend. :(

Fuck off Gizzard. He came upto Scotland during 2014 referendum pontificating on why people should vote a certain way because of his warm and fuzzy feelings to them. Performative, woman baiting, narcissist. Has always been a very good storyteller and this is his current story. What annoys me most is he uses his white male privilege to gain male acting roles, note he doesn't turn up for audition in 'girl mode', why would that be........

I doubt he negotiates pay for acting or comedy gigs in girl mode either.

unsync · 25/05/2024 13:01

I just get narcissist vibes from him. I saw him in Liberty a while back, he wasn't as smooth faced then, even with a full face on.

agent765 · 25/05/2024 13:02

Power-hungry man willing to get it by any means.

Tiger, my arse.

Why would anyone vote for this man? I know politicians spout any old crap to get votes (Trump springs to mind), but this guy takes the biscuit.

LindorDoubleChoc · 25/05/2024 13:08

I had my arse absolutely handed to me on a plate when I dared to suggest there was something of the Narc about Eddie Izzard back in 2016. Just dug out the old thread and read my comments and see that the issue of him saying he was transgender was news to me at that point, so I think that's when he started using that vocab. Beforehand he was a transvestite with a attention seeking behaviours. Thread makes for quite interesting reading, to see how the zeitgeist changes in 8 years.

The only photo of Izzard that is important is of him adjusting his penis whilst in the queue for the ladies toilet.

That's all you need to know about this individual.

I don't think in all my life have I sat in an armchair striking that pose with my hand under the chin gazing wistfully into the distance.

He's probably just waxed his balls and trying not to cry.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 25/05/2024 13:14

@LindorDoubleChoc I remember when he described himself as an attention seeking transvestite too. He didn't say he was AGP, which he obviously is but has now capitalised on the 'Trans' social phenomenon. I don't remember any talk of genuine dysphoria, just excitement at barging past 13 year old girls in women's toilets. Wanker.

Brewdug · 25/05/2024 13:15

Can anyone confirm my point from earlier or am I going mad. Was it me or did the piece initially use female pronouns for Izzard then change this to male?

There are a few people in the comments asking why Izzard is referred to as 'she' throughout - that's not the case when you read it now.

When I read it around 8am (not forensically because it's hardly that interesting) I'm fairly sure the author used "them" a couple of times and then "she" throughout.

Bowednotbroken · 25/05/2024 13:29

I read it very early this morning (insomnia😩) and noticed the article was written using he in one section and she in the next. I thought the writer was pandering to the 'he doesn't mind' stuff, now I see from here who wrote it I'm surprised there were any 'he' references at all. Will go back and see if it's changed....

Brewdug · 25/05/2024 13:33

It seems to shift every time I go back to it, and now is a mix of both...

You are entitled to your own opinion of Eddie.

However, the sentiment on Mumsnet is more concerned with the erosion of women's and children's safety than being specifically anti-trans. Trans people have all the human rights that the rest of us have. Eddie is a TIM and TIMs shouldn't be in women's and children's safe spaces, on the grounds that he is male not that he's is trans.

Not ALL mumsnet share that sentiment actually, I don’t agree with that at all and I stand to be counted thank you.

And if anyone thinks that immature petty comments about photoshop and poses lend credibility to an intellectual debate, they would be very much mistaken. Any fool can see it’s just an excuse for spiteful bullying. A playground pile on.

As for “narcissist”, I doubt there’s a word which is more inappropriately and frequently used in daily language.

Datun · 25/05/2024 13:35

Good news about the comments.

It used to be that readers could be swayed, depending on the bent of the article.

Now I don't think they can.

So you think men should be allowed in women’s single sex spaces?

and this benefits women how?

Bowednotbroken · 25/05/2024 13:38

A cursory count - 27 (or possibly 25!) he / his / him references, 2 'their' and only 5 she / her refs. Samuels changes mid-sentence on at least one occasion. I was surprised by that as my impression was that the number was about equal - but I can't face re-checking as it was too tedious to go through a third time!! Maybe the 'she' stands out so much more as it jars so much seeing people lying like that?

FrogTheWarrior · 25/05/2024 13:39

I think people being bitchy about photoshop have zero credibility.

I think people that can't answer a simple question have zero credibility 🤷‍♀️

It's about the level of intellectual engagement EI's inane ramblings deserve.

So to be clear - you think Eddie Izzard is a sexual predator of women and children? Because that’s what you’re really saying. Ooof, brave words then surely?

For me to be clear - I absolutely do not think that. Nor would I have the slightest issue sharing loos, changing rooms, wherever with Eddie Izzard. I would welcome the chance to have an intelligent conversation while hand washing! In German, if he preferred. And maybe exchange notes about nail colours while we’re at it.

Clear enough?

How about you responding to my comment re the immature bitchiness trivialising any intellectual debate?
