Eddie Izzard Interview in the Times

Written by the sports writer who wrote several comments in the Times over the years supporting transwomen in female sports, so no surprise there is no challenge (that I can see) to Izzard's bletherings:

Eddie Izzard: ‘Trans people going back in a shell? Won’t happen’

Eddie Izzard (also answers to Suzy) has migrated from stand-up comedy to serious acting, with solo performances of Great Expectations and Hamlet. But the role the 62-year-old really wants is to be the first trans member of parliament. Interview by Mart...

Eddie is almost laughably narcissistic. What a strange and discomforting oddball. I also find EI creepy as hell and would hate to be in an enclosed space with Big Ed.

Yes, this.

He seems to be ramping up the ‘feminisation’ attempt lately. Wonder if he is going to try for full on ‘girl mode’ as a 60 odd year old man. 🫤

ErrolTheDragon · 25/05/2024 08:12

I've not read it yet, just opened and skimmed down... this jumped out:
But honesty has to count for something.

Please Eddie, go back to being honest!

That’s tough luck for him isn’t it because Jamie Wallace got there first. Since TW are the most marginalised and oppressed people on the planet you’d think that TM would have taken the lead on trans people in politics but for some reason TW dominate. I wonder why that is?

Because Girl Boss or summat?

Zeugma · 25/05/2024 08:14

Operation Let Them Speak is working reassuringly well if that stream-of-consciousness babble is anything to go by.

As for the photos……😂😂😂😂

Whatshallabee · 25/05/2024 08:19

The Tory Party are desperate for candidates if she’s still interested.

ResisterRex · 25/05/2024 08:22

Didn't photoshop his shoulders smaller though.

Timeisstiking · 25/05/2024 08:22

Why is it for a man to appropriate a woman? 🤢 Fck off.

I think they did, you know. In RL they are much, much…….er, burlier.

And there's only so much heavy lifting Photoshop can do! 🙈🤣

BobbyBiscuits · 25/05/2024 08:28

Why does the interviewer constantly refer to Eddie as 'she', when apparently he doesn't mind what you call him?
Surely in this particular case, even just on sight, the default would be to call him a he?
If someone doesn't mind being called their actual sex then why are you still too scared to say it?

ThePoshUns · 25/05/2024 08:33

Those filters are doing some heavy lifting there. Fake on the outside, fake on the inside.

Talking about his pleasure at getting good reviews for Gertrude and Ophelia particularly, Izzard says:
"As a trans person [this] matters to me a lot, honouring the women as well as the men. We do grow up in Britain with this pantomime dame where women are portrayed in these big clumpy boots, like the Ugly Sisters. That's not the essence of a woman. I'm working very hard, trying to do female characters so people don't need signposts."
"Essence of a woman" - stay away from those boots, Sisters!

Wait, so because for centuries men have caricatured women as ugly (wearing heavy boots - the horror!), we need another man to single-handedly caricature women differently to right this wrong? And that’s going to make things great for women?

Eddie doesn’t see that Eddie is adding to the pile-on.

Edie could choose to act in plays where there are strong female leads played by women, where Eddie is a supportive part.

But then Eddie would have to share the applause.

Mumoftwo1312 · 25/05/2024 08:34

"Girl mode" always makes me laugh - I'm about half his age and haven't been called a "girl" for years. Don't think I even count as a "young lady" any more either.

I think Eddie has gone the same way as Dylan Mulvaney - I think what started out as a bit of fun, almost an experiment, temporary and/or part time, then snowballed into their whole public persona and they can't go back to being an ordinary bloke even if they wanted to

Mumoftwo1312 · 25/05/2024 08:37

Tried to read the article but I couldn't be bothered after the bit about the gender confused tiger. And I'm usually such a fan of the Times

Shortpoet · 25/05/2024 08:38

Did anyone ever watch the documentary about him when he did all those marathons? There was an interview in it with an ex-girlfriend of his who said he was very difficult to be in a relationship with. She sounded so hurt and broken by it.

It was at that point I stopped liking him as a performer. Way before all the trans nonsense.

I don't think in all my life have I sat in an armchair striking that pose with my hand under the chin gazing wistfully into the distance.

Channeling his inner Jane Eyre, wondering if Mr Rochester will text her

NoWordForFluffy · 25/05/2024 08:41

I met him once. He was an arse!

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 25/05/2024 08:51

Ophelia?

Blimey. 🤦🏻‍♀️

He should have done "vulnerability sleeves".

Saw the headline saw the photos. Had no desire to read the article whatsoever.

I was 17 or 18. He was in a play in the West End, and I went to the stage door to meet him. He barely contained his contempt, and just wasn't that happy to see me, from what I could tell.

OvaHere · 25/05/2024 09:03

He's insufferably self absorbed. It must be some sort of narcissistic affliction - a messiah like complex where he's convinced his 'female essence' and 'girl mode' is for the greater good of all us ladies. Men like this must be unable to hear how they sound. It would just be funny if it wasn't for other people taking their grandiose ramblings seriously.

Totally unsurprising. He’s obviously played the right game behind closed doors.

popebishop · 25/05/2024 09:10

Big boots aren't the essence of woman?

You really don't need to get TRAs to talk for long before their boring, old, wrong beliefs that "woman means feminine" slip out.
