No one would doubt that Glinner has gone above and beyond. Which is why it was really rather odd how he stuck up for Hayton. There was no logic to it other than 'he's my friend'.
And while that demonstrates admirable loyalty (genuinely), it doesn't smack of the best judgement.
And while that isn't a crime, I'm pretty certain that a lot of women thought it was largely because he was male and that's why he didn't get it. And, crucially, didn't seem too inclined to listen to the women who did.
It takes a massive amount of self analysis to step out of one's socialisation. And men - opinionated, clever men at that - putting women and their opinions first is probably not something that they can achieve on day one.
Given Hayton's woefully ill judged criticism of JK Rolling, I'm willing to bet they're getting it by whatever day today is.
