Just as the title says really! Is that your only thought about who you'll vote for, or will you look at wider policies? Been getting lots of information through my letter box recently, and none mention it.

Ooh, they're all being called back to the hive. .. interesting.

Desecratedcoconut · 22/05/2024 15:42

But odd though, you'd think they'd leave it until the BOE reduces the base rate?

Yes loads running to no10
Diaries cancelled, etc

Think there’ll be a date v soon

June 4th maybe? Someone mentioned that somewhere else

AutumnCrow · 22/05/2024 15:45

Sunak giggled in the Commons that he'd already said 'there will be an election in the second half of this year' but that could be any date on or after July 1st, in theory?

Oops yes I meant July 4th

Wherewerewerewear · 22/05/2024 16:02

Def July 4th..

And I definitely won’t be voting for Labour.

AstonsDataThief · 22/05/2024 16:08

Are the Tories giving up on trying to improve their standing over the next few months? Frustratingly it does mean some potentially promising rhetoric around schools/cass/politicised civil service etc will not lead to anything. The problem with campaigning on it is though it might be a vote winner, if Labour win anyway they might try to spin it that voters disagreed with the Tories on this.

I really hope they launched an independent inquiry into gender ideology first.

AGovernmentOfLawsNotOfMen · 22/05/2024 17:11

5pm announcement then.
A bit late now.
Just waiting.
Demonstrations apparently outside Downing Street.

RedToothBrush · 22/05/2024 17:17

Deffo election incoming

AGovernmentOfLawsNotOfMen · 22/05/2024 17:17

July 4th
And they’re off 🤣🤣

This is exactly what they’ll do. And when Labour win it’ll be the perfect opportunity to push through legislation that nobody wants.

PonyPatter44 · 22/05/2024 18:41

I will be voting Labour. Tories are corrupt and amoral, Lib Dems are ineffective. I don't like everything Labour says, but I don't like ANYTHING the Tories say.

HelenaTranscart · 22/05/2024 20:29

The economy, NHS, education, climate etc are all important but if we cannot trust what politicians say, how can we possibly entrust them with these issues?

I cannot vote for a leader who lies that trans women are women. If you don't know the difference between a male and a female, I don't trust you to run the country.

Labour and Lib Dems seem to think some women have a penis. The Greens are swivel-eye, woman-hating loons, and along with the Scottish Nasty Party have done more to harm women and children than any other political party. Only Westminster stopped self ID.

I hate the Tories and I used to be left of centre, but I'll hold my nose and vote Conservative. In fact, on this single issue and for the sake of my kids, I'll paint my ass red white and blue and parade naked thru the streets singing God Save the King!

Wherewerewerewear · 22/05/2024 20:37

It is a no brainer.

Can’t decide which I found funnier
the idea of your ass
or
the ‘swivel-eyed’ greens.

Happy to join you on the ass parade 👏

Yes.

If someone can lie about whether humans can change sex or not, they are either an idiot, a coward, or both. I can't vote for someone who is unable to be clear on the issue, or willing to allow children to be harmed because they haven't the guts to be clear and speak up.

100% this. I will be voting Conservative to protect women's rights and single-sex spaces, very impressed with my Tory MP's stance on these issues already.

If Labour win, they will be introducing self ID which will be a disaster for women's safety.

There a long thread here of batsh!t things that Labour politicians have said about women. https://x.com/ripx4nutmeg/status/1442783035389325313

Caroline Nokes, an influential Tory who actively doesn't give a shit about the interests of women's rights and children's safeguarding, is now on Peston as a guest commenter.

Caroline Noakes is an example of why you must consider the candidate as well as the party.

Yes, I feel the Tories will get the economy back on track and the trans issue is a big deal to me.

Are you ok Hun?

The Tories are destroying our economy and using divisive shock tactics like the Trans debate & national service to distract you from the massive fuckup they've managed over the last 14 years.

Seriously, who the fuck is honestly thinking of voting Tory? Are you out of your actual mind??

Lol more histrionics in an attempt to shame people for their voting choices.

1997 UK election. Last time Labour won. Millions voted for the Tories then. Be interesting to see how this year compares to then.. As Labour were on a high then - I strongly doubt the numbers this time will be anywhere near the 13.5m mark.

Edited

The last time Labour won was in 2005 when they secured 9.5m votes. Previous to that they won in 2001 with 10.7m votes. In 2001 the Tories had roughly 2m votes less and in 2005 about 800k.

🙄
Sorry yes ok. I meant last time they won taking power from the tories. Obviously they won after that to stay in power.

The point being ‘who the fck votes tory?’ Well millions of people. Like it or not.

Last time people predicted a landslide for Labour was 1997. They were correct. I doubt it will be by as much this time. Simply because as much as people want a change, understandably very few people are inspired by Labour. In 1997 they were. It’s more tories losing the election, than it might be Labour winning.

The numbers will be interesting.
