Are you voting in the next general election purely on the transgender issue?

Just as the title says really! Is that your only thought about who you'll vote for, or will you look at wider policies? Been getting lots of information through my letter box recently, and none mention it.

Thing is, any party who will not unequivocally define women as adult human females is going to waste both time and money on making changes to existing legislation that allow for self id. And this takes them away from time and money spent on those important issues such as welfare the nhs and the environment.

Exactly this.

We've had years of a non-Tory Govt up here and they have spent so much time and effort focusing on trans issues to the detriment of everything else. Be careful what you wish for.

Igmum · 30/04/2024 13:19

Yes. I've been a single issue voter on this for some years now. In the past have spoiled my ballot (wrote a suffragette slogan) and managed to find a small leftie party that actually was GC.

On the bright side, doorstep conversations are getting better - even before Cass which must surely have an impact. In 2019 I had a (white, male, probably 40s) Labour canvasser scream at me over and over again "TWAW, TWAW" - I had expressed softly spoken concerns about male bodied rapists in women's jails. This time round I had a lovely conversation with a Labour canvasser who reckoned he didn't know much about it (possibly true, looked retired) but said I gave him food for thought.

There's a long way to go to protect vulnerable women and children.

ManonDe · 30/04/2024 13:20

I am not voting Labour (despite being a former member!) on many many issues- not just this. This to me makes them unvotable for.

But I am so disappointed and angry with all the parties.

I think we need to bear in mind that this shit show happened under a Tory government

This.

I think people forget that we currently have a Tory government.

Are they doing what you want them to do on transgender issues?

Because I don't get the impression that they are.

At least Labour might make some improvements to public services.

MadameDeLaRue · 30/04/2024 13:20

Absolutely not.

Though it's an extremely important social issue, it's being weaponised by the fundamentally anti-woman Tories to get some votes. I think it's pathetic that so many are falling for it.

SnapdragonToadflax · 30/04/2024 13:21

No. The Tories fuck over women in a plethora of ways, the trans issue is a drop in the ocean.

Also I strongly suspect most senior Labour MPs are secretly supportive of GC beliefs but want to win an election. Which is fair enough, as they can't do anything in opposition.

HermioneWeasley · 30/04/2024 13:21

Yes

SometimesIDowonder · 30/04/2024 13:22

No. How can we be ignoring the fact that people are left waiting hours for ambulances?

sosickofbeingskint · 30/04/2024 13:23

No. This government has to go. I'm voting strategically to get them out (I'm in a marginal constituency) and I'm hoping for Labour overall.

For women's rights generally - and for human rights for us all - Labour is a much better bet than the Tories, even if they're far from perfect.

Post-Cass review, we're in a different landscape. We're seeing the fruits of all the work women have done on this. The courts are ruling in our favour time and again. No Debate is firmly over. It will take a long time to unpick all the damage, but I think the adults are entering the room now. We're not going to have self ID forced on us.

EasternStandard · 30/04/2024 13:23

I’m more concerned with women’s sex based rights than any positioning on ‘trans issues’

I’m not voting just on this, but Labour won’t get my vote

Lostmum1906 · 30/04/2024 13:25

Yes, I feel the Tories will get the economy back on track and the trans issue is a big deal to me.

RedToothBrush · 30/04/2024 13:25

No.
Its just the Twat Olympics. They all excel in their chosen field. Its very competitive for who is the biggest lying knobend.

My problem is the lack of candidates standing in my area.

twistyizzy · 30/04/2024 13:25

No but it is 1 of a few reasons. Starmer is attacking private schools while he and his wife benefitted from a private education and he sees no problem with his DC benefitting from private facilities but wants to pull the drawbridge up after him. The pure hypocrisy is astounding all dressed up as social equality.
I am politically homeless.

ItsFunToBeAVampire · 30/04/2024 13:26

I probably won't vote at all.
I will not vote for the genderwoo believers but don't think I can bring myself to vote Tory. We'll see closer to the time.

Summerhillsquare · 30/04/2024 13:26

Absolutely not. I'd vote for anyone who'd get the Tories out.

VeryQuaintIrene · 30/04/2024 13:28

Absolutely not.

Purplecatshopaholic · 30/04/2024 13:29

Dear god no! Can’t understand how anyone could given the challenges around the NHS, education, the economy etc…

Too true.

This election is part of the journey, not the destination. Need to be strategic - which party can best govern the country 2025-2030 (hopefully at least ten years to 2035 as you can’t change everything in 5 years) in which case they need a strong majority for the first 5 years or they won’t be able to do anything.

Then to keep a calm head around the political weaponisation of certain issues.

And not voting is still voting - it’s voting for the status quo.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 30/04/2024 13:29

Purely? No. Heavily? Yes.

Kaaardiffgalnow · 30/04/2024 13:30

Yes.

I'm in Wales. 24 years of Labour government here and health, education and all public services are appalling. That track record on top of Labour (and Plaid's) attitude towards the female sex means I won't be voting for them. Whether I can bring myself to vote Tory or spoil my paper is another question.

Jux · 30/04/2024 13:31

I think I'll be spoiling my paper as I did last time, unless the top of the Labour Party actually declare that bio sex is more important than lovely feelz.

Tories have just now said that women's wards in hosp should no longer admit TW, that in the NHS bio sex is more important, so that also intimate care should be provided by same bio sex. However, it's unclear what happens if there's not a single room available for a TW - would they go tomale wards or female wards? We shall no doubt find out.

It's not enough to make me vote Tory (heaven forfend!) but there's no one else - they're all much of a muchness otherwise imo.

AIstolemylunch · 30/04/2024 13:31

I am

TooBigForMyBoots · 30/04/2024 13:34

No.

The county's problems are too great and the only 2 consistent TWANW parties here, are not good on women's rights.

JKRJHBKJK · 30/04/2024 13:37

Yes, because safety for women and girls is my main issue.

Also I don't believe for one moment that Labour will do anything to improve the NHS or education, and will only make things worse.

I am aware Labour will win the GE, but at least I'll know I didn't vote women's rights away.

sosickofbeingskint · 30/04/2024 13:38

Lostmum1906 · 30/04/2024 13:25

Yes, I feel the Tories will get the economy back on track and the trans issue is a big deal to me.

The Tories will get the economy back on track?!! WTF?

Please don't tell me you're still falling for the PR about Tories being a safe pair of hands. That's all it is, PR!

Who has been in power for well over a decade now?

They are responsible for the dire state of the economy!

If the economy is your issue, you'd be mad to vote for these clowns.
