Just as the title says really! Is that your only thought about who you'll vote for, or will you look at wider policies? Been getting lots of information through my letter box recently, and none mention it.

Oh dear. Self ID in other words. Or ‘by the back door’ if we prefer.

If people were on the fence, I think this might push them off it.

That's me out then. I'm not voting for this.

''Labour would also remove the ability of a spouse to object to the change.''

What have things come to when a bunch of random women on Mumsnet have to explain to a political party that what they plan to do is not lawful?

“We believe everyone should be treated with dignity and respect,” she said. “We want to see the process for gender recognition modernised, while protecting single sex spaces for biological women.

They never say how they intend to protect women's single sex spaces once the number of men who have falsified identity documents has massively increased. Having one doctor signing off on this is meaningless. It's self ID in all but name.

Transgender women could be barred from same-sex spaces

Rishi Sunak has pledged to change the Equality Act to introduce explicit legal protections for biological women in same-sex spaces such as changing rooms and hospital wards.

Thanks @Signalbox and @Wherewerewerewear those articles shout the difference loud and clear.

@Thelnebriati if Labour bothered to seek woman’s views Mumsnet would be a good starting point, but I don’t think they care.

I have not caught up with the thread so perhaps this has been posted already but if not it is helpful. It is from Labour Women’s Declaration and explains about the Spousal Consent Clause Labour intends to remove.
https://labourwomensdeclaration.org.uk/the-spousal-consent-clause-in-the-gra-an-important-protection-for-women/

There was quite a detailed discussion about Labour’s planned introduction of self -ID (in practice), on a thread here about six weeks ago too, with quite a lot of useful details pointing out all the pitfalls of their plan.

The spousal consent clause in the GRA - an important protection for women - Labour Women's Declaration

UK Labour has indicated that it wishes to remove the spousal exit route clause from the Gender Recognition Act (GRA). It claims that the clause gives the right for a spouse to block a partner from being awarded a Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC). T...

I don’t believe there is one post on this thread telling women they shouldn’t vote or that they should spoil their ballot.

PhDinaseive · 20/05/2024 23:37

There's been several posts on the merits of spoiling ballots or not voting. I suspect some are those who love it when women's voices aren't heard

So who are women who want their voices to be heard supposed to vote for when none of the candidates are listening to their views?

MaryMaryVeryContrary · 21/05/2024 09:41

Late to the thread. I’m GC but trans isn’t top of the agenda for me (but I am factoring it in). I just can’t bring myself to vote for labour, much as I want to, because of this plus other things - I just don’t think Starmer is strong enough. Intelligent enough yes, but he lacks the strength of character I think we need. I also don’t think labour’s ideology is realistic in the U.K. in 2024 - we are no longer a wealthy country able to hand out money with abandon.

Or maybe they are women who think spoiling ballots can be a reasonable option in some cases.

I'd bloody love for my voice to be heard, and I've informed my (Tory) MP to make them known.

However, who do you suggest I vote for? I am broadly left wing, but not the new gender woo believing nonsense. I am a feminist, but not when that means that men are allowed to invade womens safe spaces and steal their prizes and rights.

I lived through the Thatcher years, I raised money for the miners strike, I paid 14% interest on my mortgage and had to work 3 jobs so as not to lose my house. This is why I cannot bring myself to vote Tory, but who else can I vote for?

I'm not being flippant when I say I might spoil my ballot, I would REALLY love to have someone I can, in all conscience, give my vote to.

PhDinaseive · 21/05/2024 10:59

Vote Tory or Party of women. That's it most Tories listen and Sunak is actually in the centre. If women's rights are important that's who you have to vote for. Unless your candidate is openly pro women's rights . I'd vote for Rosie Duffield who is labour for instance. If you don't vote for the party or MP who is pro women's rights, labour will never get the message or change.

Nellieinthebarn · 21/05/2024 11:07

If there is a Party of Women candidate I will vote for them. But I cannot vote Tory, there is to much history of them causing misery, and current misery, for me to vote for them.

While there are undoubtedly a few good eggs in the Tory Party, I believe they are too far and few between to make any difference to the fundamentally morally corrupt majority.

Whatever happens nationally this area will get a Tory MP, quite frankly they could shave a monkey, put it in a suit with shiny shoes, and it would still get in with a huge majority.

Who are you planning to vote for, out of interest?

I think Labour are woeful on women's rights, but to my dismay, the Lib Dems and the Greens are even worse.

I don't want to vote Tory and was planning to spoil my ballot but it has occurred to me that although where I vote is usually a Tory safe seat, due to boundary changes there's an outside chance the Lib Dems might get in, and I really don't want that.

Who has talked about “the merits” of spoiling ballots? All I’ve seen is some posters saying they don’t know who to vote for and they are considering spoiling their ballot. It is an entirely personal decision.

I’m in exactly the same position. Shifting boundaries could change everything!

The fact that discussions are still stuck at the ‘what IS a woman?’ stage is so depressing.

I think they genuinely just hope we give up.
